My career was as a mechanical engineer in aerospace. I observed over the years how Boeing used their lobbying influence to get the government to delegate increasing amount of FAA authority to self-regulate. Probably the only people less surprised than me to see this debacle unfold were Boeing engineers. That’s been fixed now and the FAA is back doing their job until memories fade again. Boeing’s mistakes didn’t require that much technical sophistication to detect. Basically financially incentivized shortcuts. Same issue with NASA trusting Boeing to do the right thing on the Commercial Crewed Vehicle. Inexcusable lazy, arrogant, sloppiness.
