That example has confirmation bias written all over it! Copper is too electrically conductive and magnetically susceptive!

That's why you don't want to be storing magnetic energy in the material you choose. You want it routed to the nearest exit(remembers that it's on rubber tires) so back to the battery ya go! <--- Found your problem!
