Doing something that is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE to your goal is idiocy.
Smart warriors think rationally, not emotionally.
I fully support (and have for YEARS) providing weapons and training and other support to Ukraine (and Poland and the Baltics). And this goes for Taiwan also and Japan.
These sanctions are more feelgoodism that is going to backfire and hurt us and weaken us without doing what we hope they will do.
Look, last week I was incensed at Germany for refusing the SWIFT sanctions, this week I am questioning my prior opinion on this.
I look at this rationally, not emotionally. The Russian people will look upon this as economic warfare on them; which is exactly what it is. This will make them more anti-Western and rally round the flag and Putin's arguments for this war.
Sanctions don't work historically. THESE sanctions will hurt us badly and nott move the Ukraine-Russia issue to where we are hoping to push it.
What we ought to be doing NOW whilst Putin is distracted and committed in the Ukraine is getting Sweden and Finland into NATO, moving military assets into Poland and the Baltics in a MUCH bigger way than we have to-date, and funnel as much weaponry/food/fuel to the free parts of Ukraine as we still can, before access to supply them is totally lost.
