Manufacturing is the real differentiator along with software. Legacy auto manufactures do not have any plants geared only towards electric vehicles and tesla now has 4 of them, that gives Tesla a minimum of 2 years advantage. Never mind the others have no experience in building such plants as they are staffed with ICE-thinking staff. Furthermore the old guard do not have such advanced presses and still, all models other than tesla, contain thousands of more parts, lots of buttons still that are completely unnecessary - advantage tesla (Software)!
Legacy manufactures also use a dealer network that erodes margins. Tesla's current manufacturing pace is 10x that of the others AND they make way nicer and better performing cars. Autonomous driving: Tesla probably 5 years ahead.

Then there's the Powerwall, solar roofs nationwide etc etc. Cars sold out 2 quarters out.

Final point: Drive a Tesla if you never did and you will fully understand.

Finally a new auto manufacturer has come on the scene to stay, They can't pull a "Tucker" on this company.
