Skipper, here is the email I sent to Dr. Baker this morning. No reply yet.

with Attachment.

Dear Dr. Becker,
Like your colleague Dr. Steven Nissen, the PI of the STRENGTH Trial you have arrived at a “partial” Conclusion in your analysis and completely jumped the track of the Scientific Method. (please read my full analysis attached).

The Scientific Method does not allow one to “disprove” a different hypothesis (REDUCE-IT), from a “Negative” Experiment (STRENGTH). His preposterous conclusion in the STRENGTH Trial was that all Omega-3 dietary supplements and prescription drugs are “neutral” or ineffective in reducing MACE. This apparent “Scorched Earth” approach is unscientific, unprofessional, and deleterious to the advancement of science, and the health of millions of CVD patients.

Instead of condemning all Omega-3’s including pure EPA approved drugs, and insisting on a new REDUCE-IT trial (which was positive), he should have followed the Scientific Method to “recycle” STRENGTH with a new hypothesis using Mineral Oil. The onus is totally on STRENGTH not on REDUCE-IT.

Follow the science and recall that JELIS (2007) was a successful trial using pure EPA without a placebo. Furthermore, the MOA of VASCEPA is not entirely due to EPA levels, as all levels of EPA in the REDUCE-IT Trial experienced similar and consistent Relative Risk Reductions in both the Primary and Secondary Endpoints. See also results from CHERRY and EVAPORATE which showed significant reductions in arterial plaque using pure EPA. https://www.acc.org/Latest-in-Cardiology/Articles/2020/09/21/19/13/Results-from-EVAPORATE-Trial

CONCLUSION: it’s not the amount of EPA. It’s the deleterious effects of DHA that blunts and offsets the pleiotropic effects of EPA.
