wsj: It's more than image and marketing. The iPod really is an excellent device.
I had my first opportunity to work with one from scratch last weekend when my 73 year-old dad bought one and wanted help loading it. My niece was visiting and showed us the basics. It is amazingly easy to use and my very non-technical dad can now load the specific songs he wants from his extensive collection of CDs without help. The user interface on the device is as easy as it gets.
I was so impressed, I think I'll buy one too. The 30 GB video iPod is only $239.99 at Costco.
What really adds up though are the accessories. Because my parents travel extensively (mainly cruises), they needed a charger (iPods come only with the USB cable that charges the unit from the computer). iPod's charger was $39.99 at BB, so he bought another brand for $29.99 (still very hefty). He also bought a headphone jack splitter (so my mom can listen), a nice leather case and some noise cancelling headphones.
