This is going to sound crazy UHC is DEFINITELY inducing patent infringement.

Vascepa for >500 Trig is NOT considered medically necessary and they approve Vascepa only for CVD.

Based on this no generic prescription of Vascepa can be used because it is not medically necessary to treat patient with high Trig.


Does anyone know if UHC is approving HIKMA generic for any indication? @hindkush?

Since the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee has determined that use of Vascepa is not
medically necessary for treatment of severe hypertriglyceridemia (TG≥ 500 mg/dL),
coverage of Vascepa will only be provided for cardiovascular risk reduction after meeting
these requirements.
