Question for the board. If a doctor prescribed Vascepa for a patient insured by United Healthcare can any alternative be substituted by the pharmacy? None of the listed covered alternative drugs are considered as equivalent to Vascepa. If there is no specific guidance written on the prescription will the insurance company/pharmacy assume it is for CVD? My thinking is Vascepa will be dispensed and after that the patient may need to fight with United Healthcare over coverage.
Am I looking at this correctly?
Thanks,
Sleven,
