Additionally, and what people often ignore on these sort of things, is that the scientific community is not worried about production and profitability, just possibility. Often times, these sort of devices involved exotic, high cost materials or materials that are really hard to work with (i.e. manufacturing in scale is just not possible). Researchers will always bring up all the positives they can muster, because notoriety is how they get funding. Ease/low cost of production wasn't mentioned once (other than "doesn't use non-CMOS compatible material"), so I would be skeptical if this device is able to be reproduced at any sort of scale.
