SS MIM overmold LiquidMetal



Here are some facts:

1. Apple has moved traditional SIM card slot to the left side underneath volume control buttons
2. Apple has added an "5G mm Wave window" into that same space. That space should not be interfered by human hand. Hence this move is to optimize for Right Handed Customer.
3. Apple does not have the same window in European version. This means Apple will not support 5G mm Wave in Europe (for now). This also mean 5G mm Wave window (for US) does not work in Europe since the 5G mm Wave frequency is not the same in different countries.
4. Apple will have custom 5G mm Wave window for different part of Global market.
5. 5G mm Wave window must be RF transparent and/or deflective (hence groove).
6. 5G mm Wave window must have equivalent or better strength than Stainless Steel.
7. 5+6 above implies 5G mm Wave window has to be super strong glass which can be from Cornings or BMG. I am not aware of Cornings advancement to match strength requirement (better than SS).
7. 5G mm Wave window CANNOT be Stainless Steel due to RF interference.
8. Stainless Steel is steel much cheaper than BMG in term of raw material.
9. Overmold two distinct materials will require post processing. Stainless Steel is easier to CNC vs BMG (since it is not as hard).
10. Apple has been submitted many (mix material) patents since 2016 and they all reference BMG.
11. LiquidMetal has worked on BMG overmold BMG. Result was not to satisfactory.
12. LiquidMetal has been bragging octal cavity and Yihao has shown Hexa Cavity. 16 RF window per shot......
