What if the S&P does not included Tesla? What if those committee execs think Tesla is too volatile? What if they think the current market cap would disrupt the re-balance too much? What if they pass on Tesla until Tesla actually stabilizes PPS AND does not need government subsidies to book a profit? If you were on that committee would you want want a bubble to enter the index and destabilize it?

Always have an exit strategy for the “what if.” That is a 800-1,000 point short term swing, maybe wither way.
