Sorry, Newly, I probably need to explain a bit. I don't exactly mean spying on your habits or life exactly. 2 Decades or so ago, I was working a corp video production with a big media content provider in a closed corp meeting with microsoft exec's with the working type title of 'DRM-digital rights management' and how to own it, or something to that effect.

Basically, microsoft was there for these content providers to sell them the idea of more DRM control of their products and content and the microsoft would be their best choice of computer operating systems because they would guarantee through program control when a user would be pirating their content and they would know about it.

Microsoft claimed though certificates and signing back then and many other things plus encryption protection can be done without the user knowing anything was going on in the background because the user doesn't need to know. This was said in so many ways. I was commenting into the headsets how this is bullshit and my director said shut up because microsoft had people in the control area can hear everything. Oops.

Sony went a step further and installed whats called root kits with their drivers that called home and went so far as to disable hardware of their sony devices. It was a mess that was quickly buried.

Some of this can still be found when searching old journals and such.

Microsoft gets root privileges automatically for the upgrades and having this, scanning your system for their clients software and un registered drivers is childs play. Matter of fact, that in itself isn't mystery any more because that's exactly what microsoft has to do when it says to find compatible programs and drivers. We don't really know how far they scan. And if all updates are turned on, it looks like they scan your system in parts almost every time you're on the internet. Look at your settings and microsoft store apps is on by default. Even video games scan your system, within supposedly the games install path.

But what microsoft is looking for is video/musical content from sources that aren't signed by sony and other providers and are assumed as pirated if the keys and hash and whatnot does not match. So, if you have a paid account with netflix or showtime or sony and they suddenly start asking you to update your profiles or a note that says your recent data doesn't match the account usage, there's a chance they detected a false positive on your library of theirs. Even though it's their mistake, you will be considered guilty until you prove you're innocent.

Even hdmi wasn't created to give you great content, it was created for encryption between your device and your computer. That's what hdmi compatible means.

Do I sound like a nut? Sure. Am I nuts? No. Is microsoft like most OS's still checking in the background if you downloaded bootlegged software?
Absolutely. It's the digital age. It's just microsoft and others have gone real quiet with the encryption talk because everyone has accepted it as the norm.

Know what a couple of the programs win10 wouldn't let me have on my computer for the install? 2 virus programs, they're installed but weren't running at all (I never run virus full time) and a 3rd party start process lister. It lists all the processes started at boot and everything that is running front and back once you boot up full. All hidden window processes as well. No, I'm not saying this means anything, but I do find that interesting.
It also made me uninstall zonelab firewall, which is fairly embedded into the operating system anyhow and now windows defender runs even when disabled but doesn't seem to be messing with my zonelabs.

What was the question again? lol.
