Little late here Newly, but doesn't your cable modem have an extra network cable out? Mine does, and if I was paying to get cable with this setup, I could run a lan cable to my computer and watch cable that way.
The haup or any dongle lets you watch over the air as well (nstc) I think it's called. Correct?

From what I understand from these dongles is unless the cable company is broadcasting qualm - over the air cable programming - the dongle may or may not pass cable signals to the computer. The dongle is actually compressing and decompressing signals as well, or taking over the air signals and between the dongle and the software loaded to the computer and sorting it out that way.

What's nice is broadcasters are starting to broadcast more ota channels as more people cut the cable cables.
