Anavex 2-73 As A Psychotropic Drug?

I do think that for some "psychiatric" issues, depression being the most likely, 2-73 could be a cure as it may reset the system to a normal balance that can be maintained without the drug.

The ability of Anavex 2-73 (or other Anavex molecules) to treat several central nervous system diseases continues to be elucidated. Wonderful early results in Rett trial. Wonderful long-term outcomes (five years?) in certain Australians with Alzheimer’s. Great.

But could similar treatments and outcomes emerge using the drug against various psychiatric conditions, such as depression, schizophrenia, etc.? I have no specific data to support any of this, but two factors keep the matter open.

As with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, most psychiatric diseases have an onset in adolescence or later. There are periods earlier in life without psychiatric complications. Thinking and other mental processes are normal. Something biochemical goes wrong — the things conventional psychotropic drugs try to address. And, as we know, side effects are severe and complicating. I get to ponder these adverse outcomes each evening when I watch the network news broadcasts; which are significantly supported by big pharma advertisements. We’ve all heard this phrase, “See your doctor if....” A multitude of ifs and adverse outcomes. How come?

Because virtually all of the advertised drugs attempt to suppress symptoms. If depressed, they attempt to chemically induce a less depressed state. If schizophrenic, they attempt to suppress the untoward symptoms of that debility. But they don’t and can’t fix the root, base causes of the psychiatric debilities. They aren’t able to restore mental processes to continuing normality; merely shovel psychoactive drugs into nerve and brain tissues. If the drugs are FDA approved, it merely means side effects are not as bad as what’s being treated (well, that’s the thought, anyway).

The Anavex molecules have their activity at the starting points of pathogenic biochemical cascades, not at the bottoms. So, yes, there is a reasonable perception that various psychiatric debilities might be open to Anavex treatment. Anavex 1-41 is already listed in the Anavex Pipeline as a potential treatment of depression.
