CE Mark Approval 6/17/2019
Cryometrix is proud to announce that the B-90 Blast/Thaw Freezer, the T-90 Storage Freezer, and the T-160 ULT Freezer have all received CE Mark approval. This is a significant step for these products and one that will be utilized to the fullest. We are excited to bring our revolutionary Cryometrix Liquid Nitrogen Technology to Europe. Cryometrix freezers utilize liquid nitrogen (LN2) to rapidly freeze, enabling the world’s fastest liquid nitrogen blast freezer (20 °C to -90 °C in 7 minutes) and the world’s most convenient ultralow freezer (-160 °C in under two hours with zero LN2 exposure to product). Our liquid nitrogen freezers are powerfully effective! CE Mark approval is required for any product being sold/imported within European Union member countries. It includes rigorous testing to ensure the safety of those using the product as well as all those in the vicinity of the product. We look forward to serving the European community with our array of freezers in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and blood bank industries. While CE Mark approval is not required for sale within the United States and to many other countries, it gives added confidence in the safety and performance of Cryometrix Freezers. Many companies (including some of our current customers) have facilities worldwide. Gaining CE Mark approval enables these companies to implement the same technology and manufacturing procedures across the globe, no matter where they are.

The L-80 Ethanol Extraction/Winterization Chiller 6/4/2019
We are excited to announce the arrival of our latest product: The L-80 Ethanol Extraction/Winterization Chiller! Utilizing liquid nitrogen, the L-80 can chill 120 gallons of ethanol to -65 °C in less than 90 minutes or to -40 °C in 60 minutes. Focused on the cannabinoid extraction industry, the L-80 is a powerful liquid chiller than can be used for both extraction and winterization processes. The L-80 can also be used as a cryo chiller for other processes to temperatures as low as -80 °C. Cannabinoid extraction is a process where hemp, or a similar compound, is immersed in a solvent. The solvent extracts useful compounds from the hemp, such as cannabinoids. The extracted compound is then separated from the solvent to form a concentrate. There are several methods of extraction, including CO2 extraction, hydrocarbon (butane) extraction, and super-chilled ethanol extraction. Different solvents used during the extraction process results in different concentrations of extracted compounds, among these being tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), and cannabichromene (CBC).There are two main process paths that may be taken in order to extract pure cannabinoids. The first is room-temperature extraction, typically utilizing CO2 or hydrocarbon (butane) extraction. This room-temperature extraction requires an additional winterization step. When extraction is done at warmer temperatures, additional unwanted compounds are extracted in addition to the desirable cannabinoid compounds, such as lipids (fats), waxes, and chlorophyll. Cannabinoid winterization is a process where the impure extract formed by room-temperature extraction is immersed in ethanol and then chilled to temperatures as low as -65 °C, hence the term “winterization”. Typical winterization methods include immersing the impure cannabinoids in ethanol and placing the immersed cannabinoids in a walk-in freezer. This method requires multiple days to complete the winterization step. The second main process path that can be used is super-chilled ethanol extraction. The process is identical to the room-temperature extraction with the exception that the solvent is super-chilled ethanol rather than CO2 or butane. When extraction is done with super-chilled ethanol (the temperature of the ethanol being as low as -65 °C), lipids (fats), waxes, and chlorophyll aren’t extracted. This results in the elimination of the winterization step and a more streamlined extraction process. The L-80 can be used for either method. Impure cannabinoid extract can be placed within the L-80 with warm ethanol and then brought down to temperatures as low as -65 °C in as little as 90 minutes. Alternatively, ethanol can be chilled to -65 °C in the L-80 and then pumped out to hemp for super-chilled ethanol extraction. Slightly larger than a normal household refrigerator, the L-80 can fit into any preexisting space, allowing for easy integration in any extraction process. It eliminates the need for large, complex, and expensive mechanical chiller equipment. Extremely friendly to the environment, the L-80 only exhausts nitrogen and uses significantly less power than comparable products, and only requires 110 volts. B-90 Plasma Freezing Validation 5/16/2019
Cryometrix is proud to offer our state-of-the-art B-90 Blast Freezer. The freezing capability liquid nitrogen gives blast freezers continues to impress us. In 2016, the San Diego Blood Bank validated the B-90 for plasma freezing procedures, including rigorous testing to ensure that the freezer operated correctly and within FDA guidelines. They replaced two large mechanical blast freezers and a large rooftop compressor with just one B-90, which then increased their throughput potential by up to 800%! The San Diego Blood Bank issued a report to determine the Return on Investment (ROI) that the B-90 Blast Freezer brings customers. It was determined that a customer would need to purchase 4 traditional mechanical blast freezers to match the throughput capability of just one B-90, and that the ROI was less than 24 months. Using this data, the B-90 could save your company up to $500,000 throughout its operational life. Since 2016, the B-90 Blast Freezer utilizing its liquid nitrogen system has seen many improvements, which in turn translates to further savings to your company. The maximum capacity of the B-90 was increased from 200 to 400 units, doubling its capability. Other refinements minimized the usage of liquid nitrogen. You would have to purchase up to 8 traditional mechanical freezers to match just one B-90’s throughput. What’s more, the newly calculated ROI is under 9 months! Over its twenty years of operation life, the new and improved B-90 could save your company up to $1.6 million! See the datasheet here. The B-90 Blast Freezer is one of our most exciting products and we are sure that it will continue as such with its state-of-the-art liquid nitrogen technology and 20-year cooling system warranty.

Savings from LN2 4/16/2019
The driving force behind everything is cost, and high-performance units have high costs. The majority of the ultra-low temperature freezers in the world use mechanical compressors and chemical refrigerants. People feel comfortable using compressor-based technology, but this doesn’t change the long-term costs of such units. Mechanical compressors are energy intensive and put off large amounts of heat, requiring not only a lot of energy to function but also extensive air conditioning systems so it can properly function. This amounts to long-term costs. Compressors are also extremely prone to breaking down, not only requiring high repair costs but also causing a loss of production time. Even worse, a compressor breaking down may cause a loss of product. Overall, compressor-based freezers are very costly in the long run. Mechanical freezers are also limited by their technology in their freezing times. They are relatively slow and inefficient at freezing, requiring more time to freeze. This translates into lower production and thus lower profits. Cryometrix freezers using liquid nitrogen have much faster freeze times, as low as 7 minutes in the case of the B-90 Blast Freezer. This translates to extremely high production and thus greater profits. Cryometrix freezers use little energy, amounting to great cost savings. Cryometrix freezers also have almost no moving parts, allowing them to last a long time with very little maintenance. While they do require liquid nitrogen, the return-on-investment costs translate to greater savings when compared to other mechanical-based freezers.

It's nice to have a lot of horsepower in the engine room but you need some in the wheelhouse too.
