The results of a 400 cohort run 12 weeks biomarker trial are not going to invalidate the R-I trial...We know from an 8,000 cohort trial (R-I) that the mineral oil effect can not be more 4% of the RRRs and that is the downside risk of doing a biomarker trial...At present we are already de facto caving in to the idea that mineral oil did account for 4% of the EPA effect. Because we don't have an explanation..That other trials showed a similar effect is not an explanation...

Right now it looks like we are hiding something. With all the worriers about the FDA's plans to "get us" (and don't include me in that group) The only point of weakness I can see is this placebo issue...And no I don't know if the FDA would bring it uo...But I also can not say they wont...

There is zero risk in running this biomarker test and it is twenty to one that it will end the mineral oil question once and for all...Certainly better odds than R-I and we all lived through that..
