Ballistic protection and vest are not interchangeable. A vest is ballistic protection but ballistic protection does not mean a vest.
The 2 inch armor on a tank is also ballistic protection.

tents, underwear can also be ballistic protection.



I'm fully aware of the distinction. I have never denied that DS undergarments for soldiers is a great idea, and will likely be faster to market than vests. There are many testing protocols that go into approving a piece of primary protective equipment like a vest. I would imagine a vest would be much further down the line when it comes to products.

I am not saying they wont be using it in vests ever.



This has always been my contention. The herd on this board has somehow agreed that DS is too flexible for bulletproof vests. Nowhere has this ever been reported. And, there is absolutely no evidence that the custom fiber requested by the Army is required to have less stretch. It could just as likely need more stretch. No one on this board knows how the fibers will react when they are woven and layered in different directions, and yes, interwoven with other materials.

That was the point I was making.
