"That was the point I was making."

my point is that ds, as is, is too elastic for bullet proof vests...and it would be dumb to try to make it better by weaving it this way and that way instead of just ordering what it is you want...which is what the army did...

you can remain as unsure as you like...and by all means, wait for the results which are not coming...lol

Yes there are many ways this will be used in the future.(if it is all we expect.) I think the "cant be a vest" thing is more like "wont replace Kevlar". At least for me that is the point.
But we are also speaking of Dragon silk as we know it. The army wanted a custom fiber that was not as flexible. That fiber may replace Kevlar some day.

But the DS we have now could be very good for ballistics. That is why they are testing it.
I helped BAE make bomb proofing prototypes for undercarriage protection. The material we were making was a plastic that was very stiff but when hit with a fragment it very quickly "melted" and stretched like rubber and solidified. Backside didnt penetrate much but deformed and captured about 60% of smaller fragments and 31% of the larger.

That protection was all about the flex under stress.
Would never work for people but for vehicles it was amazing.

They did not get the bid but we got to blow up some trucks LOL
