Big Data...

Fellow Amarinites and dissenters..We are now officially in the RWE (Real World Experience) era of medicine where theoretically medical decisions are going to be data based in terms of efficacy and cost effectiveness...

The logic for using mathematics (data) is sound only to the point where the the data collectors are honest. "Fudging" data is an old MIT term understood back in the 1960s....meaning to cheat the system by introducing data that was never collected of fraudulently changing the data to fit your opinion...

So who is collecting the data is a big issue...Those of you who watched the "Player's Championship...might have been impressed by the very slick new ads coming from "Optum" reflecting a new paradigm in medical care based on Big Data (BD)...The question is who Optum.

Optum is a division of United Health Group (UHG), a conglomerate billed as a health insurance company...UHG, a company most of us have never heard of is actually number six on the Fortune 500 list well ahead of Amazon in revenues. UHG has a long and seedy history of changing the numbers to fit their agendas.

A previous CEO..William Maguire...Was forced by the SEC to resign due to back dating stock options and other seedy practices like running data trials for BP and 'burying them if the data did not fit the customers expectations. Mr Maguire was awarded a severance package worth an estimated 1.1 billion dollars (largest in histroy) when he left the company..It was estimated that one in seventy dollars spent on U.S. medical care was to pay Maguire's salary..

Three of the top ten corps in the Fortune 500 list are health care companies....McKesson drug dispenser, United Health Group..Insurance...and CVS....None of these companies have the customers well being as their primary concern...
