I wasn't ready for green eggs(olive)

(2 middle upper)

Apparently Leghorn chickens lay white eggs, Orpingtons lay brown, Ameraucana lay blue and an Olive Egger is a cross between the two. The colors are developed from pigments applied during the 26 hour trip through the oviduct. Or just look at their ear lobes to see if you'll get something other than white. Don't know if you can tell by the pic, but the olive eggs are smaller which is generally due to beginner hens and none are jumbo which is a good indication to me that they haven't been shot full of steroids as hen size determines egg size.

When I lived in the Keys, the neighbors had free ranging Banties and I'd go on an egg hunt on my mornings off looking for eggs in my yard from straying hens hiding eggs barely larger than quail eggs.

I feel so 'city' discovering all this for the first time.

Green eggs, gulp, now for some ham...
