In reality - what is role of retail investors in trials and outcomes?

95%+ are here just to make money - once the buyout happens - no one cares whether the drug got approval or not. So clearly investors cannot make much noise as they are after money and could care less if the drug is approved and if it is sold at $5000 per dose or $100,000 per year

Well then, with all respect, we are just going to have to disagree on this point. Many retail investors will invest where they think their money is going to make a difference. Given many choices in high risk micro Bio stocks the retailers will do their DD and decide what makes sense. It's complicated.

I fully get that many here are totally motivated ONLY by SP and will say/do just about anything to influence others on a day to day basis. Some of these investors* are more clever/subtle/dishonest then others but over time they expose themselves. The people who are here b/c of the science and b/c they want to help make a difference with their investments are a different batch. If you ask them they will tell you they would not be here taking the risks ONLY b/c they think AVXL is a goldmine. These people generally dislike being lied to.
