Why can't demand simply be investors who believe the tweets?

Why can't demand simply be speculators who are looking to flip a tick?

No one will really know how big short interest is until weeks from now when the short interest report is published.

This is a good point. If shorts were not trying to cover then there would not be as many bids in trying to get shares. This many bidders means there is a serious demand. If there were no demand there would be no bids, regardless of the ask price. Simple.
