One thing that crossed my mind watching the SHM... I understand the GTE team is working extremely hard and long hours with little time off. Someone commented that Bob Jones looked pretty tired at the SHM.
While I am as eager as the next person they get the strat flying ASAP, I can't help but wonder if stopping all work and taking a week off might do these people a world of good.
Having served on a nuclear submarine and being submerged for 95 days and being subjected to intense drilling and training with little chance for privacy and relaxation, I know first hand what overwork and stress can do to a person. We got 30 days of R&R after returning from each 3-month patrol, and it was very much needed. I can't help but wonder how close to the breaking point some of these people might be, and wonder if that is something anyone at GTE is even thinking about. Bob Jones dropping dead of a heart attack due to stress and lack of proper rest would be a huge blow to the company.
