Nothing could be further from the truth

AMD's business acumen still involves going head to head with Intel

Au contraire. Intel has publicly stated that there is no market for 64-bit desktop computers for 5 years, actually, I think they said seven years (2010).

So that is a market segment that Intel is NOT COMPETING IN, and AMD is. Seems like a good choice to me.

Intel, by its actions also said that they are not going to compete in the 64-bit server market for customers that don't have the resources to rewrite their software for a new architecture.

Of course, you and the rest of the 'bees don't think that either of these market segments exist. That is the source of your confusion about AMD's strategic planning.

Are there really no customers who need 64-bit computing but don't want to spend a lot of money rewriting software?

Microsoft and IBM, apparently think there are such customers, its not just Hector Ruiz, Jerry Sanders and Petz.
