Yet for some unknown reason millions of shares where dumped on the market this week and were picked up without a massive drop in the price of the stock....very very strange indeed.

Willy this is not strange at all. Often with large orders there is a pre arranged price for a transaction between the buyer and or seller and the MM. I have often seen both large sell and large buys without any impact on price. The MM accumulates his order throughout the day and then completes the prearranged transaction.
