o/s outstanding shares. the number of shares in the market.

a/s authorized shares. the number of shares autherized to be added to the o/s. a/s shares are not in the market until the company sells then into the market.

the higher the o/s the lower the pps value so by diluting (selling a/s into the market) the stock pps goes down.
