Since GTAT sold solar panel furnaces at a profit -

Why would anyone expect them to sell sapphire furnaces at a loss.

IMO - Apple wanted to be channel captain for sapphire - control the furnaces and the production of boles and they could also control the off shore cutters and producers of lenses.

They lost that bet, it seems.

GTAT may emerge the winner.
