The CO2 from the limestone transition to lime, release of CO2 from the limestone is also a large source.

The original design would have used an amine scrubber to capture the CO2 first (with a high pressure blower feed), then an amine / CO2 separator, which is off the shelf technology with several vendors (including Alstom) and the old Korean partner. MVTG research in 2012 came up with a much smaller foot print, Membrane based technology, for capturing and for concentrating the CO2 from 20 to 80% (Amine scrubbers did not concentrate the CO2). I am 100% sure one of the 6 or so new patent applications (not yet published....) covers it, with and with out the ERC, but until the patent attorneys are done tweaking it (they have a priority filing date, and so have time to tweak claims, etc, before publishing it) we will not know the final details of the claims and market scope of the front end addition to the ERC. We know the

1) foot print

2) operating cost

will be lower than off the shelf amine CO2 scrubber technologies

3) the CO2 will be 80% concentration, 400% increase which will

4) boost ERC formic acid output purity from from 20 to 80%(to commercial sellable concentration)

Lastly, LaFarge may already have adequate scrubbers on the exhaust, but if not, they can use one of many off the shelf technologies to filter it, if needed, to protect the membrane system from fouling.
