it is not a debt crisis.
the debt ceiling needs to be raised to pay for what has been already spent, ie a credit card bill.
this was an attempt by one party to leverage their influence by using a housekeeping measure to create a potentially incredibly explosive credit crunch.
but, yes. a major player, in my mind.
Ordinary,
you might want to review the etiology of this argument you are enjoying.
poke many hornet nests, do you?
you are usually more rational than this.

arizona,
hot down there in hades, eh?
I could have addressed you specifically as well.
You, too are strong, with well formed opinions, and giving no quarter to those who would dilute our message with empty and meaningless platitudes.
Your thoughts are understood and appreciated.

just taking this opportunity, having caught up to you guys here, to tell you how much I appreciate all of your stout support of what really matters in this country. in fact, the defense of the only set of principles that define what it is that defines our democracy.
never in my lifetime has there been such an assault on the core democratic ideas of fairness, equality, justice, and the social contract.
it is just a bridge too far for me to understand what motivates anyone from this country to work to destroy that fabric.
I understand that the definitions are so inverse to each other, that there is no longer a common language, no longer a common interest in maintaining this nation.
so many elected officials have sold their souls for lucre that it bends my mind. the dissonance among our political spokespeople, corporate masters, lobbyists, from the interests of our most vulnerable (of whom we no longer speak - unless as the "former" middle class) working poor, with any hope of employment gone (the "new" normal), is abysmal with no longer any hope of remedy.
I am broken hearted that this, my country, no longer makes room, nor shows any care, for immigrants, and has segregated, by class, more and more, and is openly attacking labor, showing all of us the true manner of valuing our worth as productive members of society, mercilessly propagandizing their victims, and actively destroying any institutional support for them.
new vocabularies determine the value of our very thoughts, until our brains function like the mash we are fed: no wonder so many who vote, vote against their true self interest in favor of the oligarchs.
I feel like such a cynic these days: poll after poll show that most people oppose this or that stupid new policy, yet that stupid policy gets pushed forward past the real work that has to be done, and then, the pushback is, in the long run, enfeebled, co-opted, turned on its head.
what happens to Wisconsin will be what happens to the rest of the states, if our side does not prevail in a big way in 2012, and if the liberal agenda continues to be co-opted by our "leaders".
in any case, please carry on. my best to you and all of the staunch, unashamed liberals here.
and all the same to you too, Mark!

Jim, still around, but with somewhat different priorities, though still hanging on to my handful of shares til payday.
have a great holiday.
my warmest regards to my fellow travelers this holiday season.
if wishes were fishes...
sorry to hijack your thought, but I would like to extend my warmest holiday greetings to all my fellow shareholders and any other sentient creatures on the planet!
well, it's that, and it's more than that.
and you are,and always have been passionate about those things that really matter to most people, whether they understand it or not.
right wingers have no idea what it means to have compassion for those whose lives have never benefitted from this american "dream", regardless of what passes as "compassionate conservatism', though one never hears that awful description any more.
so you follow your heart, and your heart leads you to battle sometimes, in the vain hope that someone might understand, and see, and change.
bless you for your humanity, and your heart.
I've been good. better than I should be.
kind of been away from the boards for a while: it was just too much to handle, and then, before i knew it, i was 10k posts behind.
life surely goes on without us, doesn't it?
how are you? still battling the minions of ignorance and fear, I see. a kind of herculean task of cleaning the Aegean stables. well, perseverance furthers.
I hope that you are well!
my best regards
tried and true methods and the fact that they know their audience
because it works.
Happy New Year to you, F6, and to all other posters here as well.
may you and yours be happy and healthy.
Happy Holidays to all!
may the season bring you peace and joy.
truly.

please remember that I try, and that result is never guaranteed!
thanks, i try to be sane on Tuesdays.
My point is this ! It's a very divisive subject - without resolution.
Stephanie
but it does seem to be pertinent to the entire national political climate.
what do we have now? politically in this country?
The entire episode: the way that the government handled the situation, allowing no forensic investigations, treating it as some sort of circus side act, all that contributed to the nearly decade long debate and questions that have never, and may never be, resolved.
Alex
Too much truth?
there has never been anything resembling the truth in your posts regarding the 9/11 issues: dismissive, arrogant, ad hominem attacks, never a discussion of facts or issues.
so if something of yours has been deleted, look for another reason.
I find your arguments unpersuasive.
but why so dismissive
if you now all of the answers the "conspiracy" theorists ask, why not just answer them?
have a good weekend.
absolutely, when asking the hard questions.
your main point is exactly what was scrupulously avoided by the authorities, and actually sprouted all of the "conspiracy" theories.
Those are not about "conspiracy", though they may indeed contain elements of conspiracy. They are questions that need to be answered, and not with condescension or a sneer.
you have a great weekend as well.
I am doing as well as, or better, than anyone could, or should, expect.
well, that's a start, anyway.
Woofer.
even a light reading of the official facts of the 9/11 business would raise some questions in mildly curious individuals.
it seems to me that whalebait doth protest too much.
in any case, it also appears to me that certain kind of speculation will never be allowed due to the fragile nature of our "democracy".
eh?
I always thought is was the citizen's business to ask hard questions.
but, I could be wrong...
and
best wishes, F6, for success.
one last thought.
you refer to it as "evil".
perhaps it is something less spiritual?
good night
KISS
unfortunately, that is just another way of avoiding reality.
I kind of remember the incessant reaching across the aisle by the administration regarding, in particular, the health care reform measure. yet, en masse, the republican party decided that 'twere
better to embarrass the president by presenting him with a failure, than to intelligently provide a counter offer, or serious debate. as a group.
how does that speak to your poetry?
and wherein does the blame lie, if there is any blame.
after all, do you agree that once upon a time Congress was not entirely dysfunctional...
already enumerated are a number of very palpable achievements b the current administration.
while it has in no way finished cleaning the augean stables, much foundation has been laid.
It is more congressional behavior that has me concerned, in particular the blatant obstructionism (not loyal opposition) of the republican party.
the problems facing us are great, and the efforts put forward are not great.
we needed an FDR, and got a Harry Truman.
maybe. we'll see.
for me, the jury is still out.
much I don't really understand, and am not willing to follow bumpersticker philosophy.
yes. east asia.
but I was referring to your other comment or one could say that politicians will promise you anything, for your vote. even if you portray yourself 'differently from the rest' that's the rub. what's different here? for the last 11 months? that got everyone excited?
what exactly did you mean?
sorry.
what, exactly, are you referring to?
plus: another 100K mercenaries (AKA privateers)
imagine what that lot will accomplish in Afghanistan for us!
a total roughly 200K armed men patrolling, training, etc.
imagine, then, an incorruptible Karzai, needed for a drawdown.
and then, imagine Pakistan.
Ah, Pakistan! what will we do about our little nuclear Pakistan?
This is the war against East Asia...
bravo!
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't Cheney and Bush's claim that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction be a conspiracy theory? Were you also a conspiracy theorist at the time- in other words, did you believe them? I didn't. Soooo, since you are most probably a conspiracy theorist, were you hoping that Iraq had WMD rather than fearing that it did?
Hey, sorta.
good to see you.
got you marked as a favorite, but for some reason you have long avoided the trenches, seeming to prefer deep underground (Franklin Mining).
miss your incisive commentary on the scene.
and yes, many of my people were terrorists, violently suppressed by the soviets. kind of like the Chechnyans, for instance in that area, and there are examples of this everywhere.
The world is far from being a just place, and the dog eat dog survival is required, unfortunately.
Living here, in America, in the lap of luxury for the last 60 or 70 years has made us forget compassion, justice, and other human values, focusing tightly on our own pleasures that that which stands in the way of our hedonistic lifestyle.my best regards to you.

good questions.
they appear to be the prerogatives of empire.
who is enforcing what on whom?
who has the efficient "surgical" weapons used on general population?
one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
You are in my thoughts
best wishes for a full recovery.
godspeed.
I realize that compromising on features of the bill can be painful, especially when there's so much urgency to get a bill passed before an election year. Snowe has not made it easy to find commonality - and in fact, she has gone to great risk to stand up to her party in reaching across the aisle. But I do believe that at the end of the day, she can boast responsibility for many features of the bill that would benefit her conservative voters, and equally Democrats can boast about continuing that dialogue in a bipartisan way.
is it all about mid-term elections?
isn't that rather cynical?
Thanks.
and my apologies to you as well.
We may not agree on how we approach a problem or the solutions to a problem, and I am usually far more reticent to throw such bombs, as my nature is much more conciliatory than that.
I am not proud of that exchange in any way.
thanks for your positive thoughts.
migo
First,
please let me apologize right now for some really inexcusable behavior: i am usually much more circumspect. I am taking refuge in my medications being taken to prevent rejection.
it was a kind of verbal diarrhea, that was neither called for, especially because you are in reality, at least to my mind, one of those rare individuals whose faith enhances the thought process. Nor, in the last analysis, did you comments match my dark mood.
So, to you, and to all who quietly tolerated my blather, I apologise.
Thanks for your patience.
migo
grunt.
I'd like to give you an opportunity to tell me a better solution, but if you have nothing but hateful retorts for me, then I don't want to continue this conversation.
I love where Christians improvise to "improve" on JC.
their only solutions are in direct conflict with JC teachings, but there is "never" a problem opening wide and swallowing that particular hubris.
no humility christians need apply here.
is that being hateful? to point out the incredible contradictions?
and then you offer up that your POV shouldn't be on the table because of the "separation" principle. as if anyone should institutionalize hypocrisy any more than it already is.
Your arguments are sloppy and full of themselves.
and you are right, there is no value in conversations with the likes of Chunga1 and, sadly, you.
like "everyone" who "interprets" the Bible.
I suppose that is what "god" was really looking for in "writing" this handbook for all seasons. Nothing wrong with the Bible, just with all those greedy eyes and sycophantic mouths "knowing" what "god" meant.
and so it goes...
