Pakistan Steel product prices further shoot up
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI (February 20 2007): The Pakistan Steel (PS) on Monday raised the prices of pig iron, hot rolled coil and MS thick plates products by Rs 500 to Rs 1,800 per ton in the wake of raw material price-hike in the international market, sources said. It raised the prices of six pig iron products, two products of hot rolled and two products of the MS thick plates on Monday.
After this upsurge, prices of pig iron products have touched new peak of Rs 27,830 per ton, hot rolled coil prices Rs 40,940 and prices of MS thick plates products Rs 35,707 per ton (including sales tax).
The PS has increased pig iron prices on six products of material by Rs 500 per ton. Now pig iron of CPI would be available at Rs 25,645 per ton as against Rs 23,920 per ton, FPI-5 at Rs 27,025 per ton as against Rs 26,450 per ton, FPI-4 at Rs 27,600 per ton which was previously tagged at Rs 27,025 per ton, FPI-3 at Rs 27,830 per ton as compared to Rs 27,255 per ton previously, FPI-2 at Rs 27,715 per ton which was previously sold at Rs 27,140 per ton and FPI-1 at Rs 27,830 per ton which was previously available at Rs 27,255 per ton (including sales tax).
It has increased MS thick plates prices on two sizes by Rs 1,800 and price of up to 29 mm has reached Rs 35,707 per ton as compared to Rs 33,637 per ton previously and the price of over 29 mm up to 49 mm MS thick plates Rs 33,120 per ton from Rs 31,050 per ton (including sales tax).
In addition the prices of hot rolled coils prices have been increased by Rs 500 and over 2.0 up to 2.35 X1000/1220 have touched Rs 40,940 per ton against the previous Rs 40,365 per ton and over 2.35 up to 3.0 X1000/1220 would now be available at Rs 40,365 per ton as against Rs 39,790 per ton available previously (including sales tax).
The PS new prices will be implemented from Tuesday (today). The local market is compelled to procure the PS pig iron and other raw materials, as the imported material prices are currently higher than PS prices, market sources said.
The prices of pig iron, one of the basic raw materials used for steel structures, have been increased second time during the last eight days, the sources said, adding: "On last Monday, the PS also increased the prices of pig iron by Rs 1,000 per ton, showing an increase of Rs 1,500 per tone during last eight days."
When PS public relation department was contacted, it simply refused to reveal the reason for price-hike and later switch off cellular phone. "We don't know any reason for the price-hike of PS products and it would be known by the PS company secretary, you better contact him", said the PS spokesman.
It may be mentioned here that PS had increased the price of hot-rolled coils on December 11, 2006, to Rs 750 per ton, with that raise, the price of hot-rolled coil had gone up to Rs 36,050 per ton from 35,300 per ton (excluding sales tax and excise duty).

I think there is potentially a huge company in the making I have found some interesting facts regarding the potential of underwater recovery of timber............

All across the world, we've submerged forests. Huge areas of productive lands are buried beneath massive amounts of water every time we build a dam. And while we've mostly stopped building dams in America, those forests are still down there, preserved for decades, completely unproductive even as fish habitat.
One might ask "why didn't we clear-cut the forests before we damed the rivers." But Triton Logging is asking, and answering, a better question: "Why don't we clear-cut them now."
Triton Logging has created a submersible lumberjack, the Sawfish, which can latch itself onto the base of a submerged tree, and cut it 'down.' I use quotation marks here because, in this case, the tree will actually be cut upwards. The sawfish connects inflatable bags to the trees, ensuring that, Instead of falling, the tree floats to the surface, where it can easily be floated to onshore processing plants.
Estimates of submerged timber in British Columbia alone reach five billion board-feet (7.5 billion feet of 2x4s) and the worldwide value of submerged timber approaches $50 billion. A pretty good business opportunity, but it has yet to be seen if the sawfish, with it's multiple operators and high introductory cost, can make harvesting of long-dead forests profitable. But if it can, I'm planning on never buying wood from any other source.
Hey guys, doing a bit more DD on their timber recovery sysytem looks very interesting.............. latest PR:

Steel prices soar 66% in a world market 'gone mad'
By Barbara Hagenbaugh, USA TODAY
WASHINGTON — Shortage fears are leading to a rapid rise in steel prices, squeezing U.S. manufacturers already reeling from a deep three-year downturn.
The price of a ton of hot-rolled coil steel in the USA hit $482 this month, up 66% from the recent low set in June, steel consulting firm Meps International said Thursday. The price rise comes not long after President Bush ended tariffs on imported steel in December, which was expected to lead to lower prices.
Prices are rising because of a variety of other factors, most notably skyrocketing demand from China's rapidly expanding economy. Last year, China's steel demand rose 38 million tons, the equivalent of the annual steel usage in Mexico and Canada combined, says Peter Fish, managing director at Meps in Sheffield, England. The more China buys, the less steel is on the market.
Supply concerns are so acute that there are reports of some steel-using firms hoarding the metal, compounding the problem. Nearly half of steel users said at least one supplier had canceled an order in January, according to a survey of steel users by the Precision Metalforming Association.
"The world's gone mad. I've never seen anything like this," Meps' Fish says.
Some steel companies are adding surcharges or even renegotiating contracts to raise prices to help offset their higher costs. Nine out of 10 steel users said suppliers raised their base prices in January, while 85% said they had to pay a surcharge, according to the PMA survey.
For U.S. consumers, the rising costs will likely have little impact, because stiff competition is forcing steel users to absorb the higher costs. But for the manufacturing sector, which already has lost 2.2 million jobs in the last three years, it feels like an insult added to an injury.
"We're hoping that enough people are getting hit that we'll be able to pass this on," says Jim McGregor, owner of Morgal Machine Tool in Springfield, Ohio. "There's just no way that we can eat this."
Says Jody Fledderman, president of Batesville Tool and Die, a Batesville, Ind., firm that makes parts for the automobile industry: "It's already so difficult in this business, a lot of people are starting to think there has got to be a better way to make a living."
I think BEIC is going to do something on Tuesday... the volume was unreal on Friday... doing DD this weekend

XDSL is the investment opportunity of a lifetime. Here is a video of XDSL's Nanobattery demonstration that was posted Friday evening on the popular YouTube video sharing website. You will be astonished by the video. Below the video is a report that I just finished writing about the company.
XDSL is a nanotechnology company based in Norwalk, CT with offices in Little Falls, NJ and Manhattan.
The company has a joint venture with Alcatel/Lucent's Bell Labs based in Murray Hill, NJ.
XDSL is developing at Bell Labs, the biggest breakthrough in battery technology the world has seen in decades.
The batteries we use today are the same as the batteries we used decades ago.
With new electronic gadgets being developed each year that are getting smaller with the need for more power, there needs to be a radical new change in battery technology.
XDSL is reinventing the battery using nanotechnology. XDSL's Nanobattery has a potential billion dollar market.
I am sure all of you rarely use your flashlight but when you need it the power is usually dead. XDSL's Nanobattery will make it possible to leave your flashlight in your cabinet for 15-20 years and then take it out one day and have full power.
The Nanobattery has three main advantages over traditional batteries:
1) The Nanobattery uses a special nanotextured honeycomb surface that separates the chemicals inside of the battery until power is needed. This means the Nanobattery has a nearly unlimited shelf life while batteries today lose their power even when the device is not in use.
2) The Nanobattery is small enough to be integrated in with the other circuitry on a chip. This means multiple Nanobatteries could be built into a device to power individual components.
3) The Nanobattery has a special cell reserved for a neutralizing chemical reaction that occurs at the end of the battery life. This makes the Nanobattery healthy for the environment while other batteries pollute our water supplies after their housings deteriorate inside of landfills.
XDSL has a deal signed with American Express to evaluate power solutions for their new state-of-the-art credit card with enhanced capabilities. The Nanobattery is perfect for their credit card because it is small, flexible and durable. American Express needs a power source that in no way alters the shape of the card. The credit card must still be usable in the swipe machines that exist today. Also remember that people typically keep their credit card for several years. Therefore, the power source must have a long shelf life. XDSL is the only company with a solution to American Express's needs.
XDSL also has a deal signed with the U.S. Army to develop military applications for the Nanobattery. The Nanobattery could be used to power tiny sensors that are dropped from a helicopter onto a battlefield to alert the army as to where their enemy is located. These sensors need a power source that is small and durable. XDSL and the U.S. Army have already completed tests proving that the Nanobattery can withstand extreme shock if used in military applications. The most important thing for the U.S. Army is the long shelf life of the Nanobattery. Thanks to XDSL these sensors will be able to sit unused on the battlefield for long periods of time until they are needed.
XDSL is also working with a major east coast RFID tag company. RFID tags are used to keep track of high value inventory items and capital assets, such as shipping containers, medical equipment and automobiles. This is a multibillion dollar industry that has a major need for a new power source. XDSL offers the best solution to their needs. After XDSL announced that the Nanobattery is ideal for RFID tags, XDSL was contacted by several other major RFID vendors.
I believe XDSL should be trading over $1 with the Nanobattery alone. However, XDSL is also developing Magnetometer technology and next-generation media-rich entertainment software.
XDSL's Magnetometer is also being developed using Nanotechnology in another joint venture with Bell Labs. XDSL's Magnetometer is a tiny metal detector that is small enough to fit on the dateline of a penny. I have been to Bell Labs and have seen it under the microscope. It was able to detect a metallic object being moved more than 30 feet away. XDSL's Magnetometer promises to be up to 1,000 times more sensitive that other metal detectors used today. XDSL believes the Magnetometer could be used in conjunction with the Nanobattery to develop smart munitions for the military that are guided to their target.
XDSL's media-rich entertainment software has the potential to change the entire television advertising industry in the same way Google changed the Internet. XDSL's software will be able to track your television viewing habits so that television advertisers can target their commercials directly to consumers who will most likely be interested in the product. This means you and I could both be watching the same television show at our homes, and when the commercial break comes on... I could be watching a commercial advertising dog food while you could be watching a commercial advertising a mutual fund.
I believe the reason XDSL is trading for only $0.255 is because the stock is completely undiscovered by the investment community. The word is finally starting to get out about XDSL. Last year the company was featured in both Wired and Scientific American magazines. This was huge publicity for the company but what XDSL needs is to be featured in a major financial publication like the Wall Street Journal or Barron's. After XDSL receives this kind of exposure, we will see institutions start accumulating the stock.
XDSL now has Rubenstein on board, the same public relations firm that represents the NY Yankees and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Rubenstein will be able to generate the media attention XDSL needs.
XDSL's chart looks amazing. I think we will break through $0.30 early next week and then move on to the 52-week high of $0.45. After there, the next resistance levels will be $0.75 and then $1.
