Hugo is right. I missed my chance to convert to Roths years ago and am paying now. I had 500,000 shares at $.12@. Sold 250,000 at just over $2.00 in a qualified account. Sold another 125,000 at just over $3.00 in a non-qualified trading account and now have a big tax liability. The last 125,000 am holding for the long-run, but they are also in a non-qualified account. I'm 66. It is what it is! But if you are young and you expect to be in higher tax brackets in the future due to advances in your income or increases in tax rates or both, it's no brain. Fund a Roth.
It's been a while since I posted and wanted to address another issue. There is an ongoing debate between the believers and the cynics, or maybe it's between the long value investors and the traders. The debate is "what does ABML have to deserve it's present market cap and my investment?". And while there will be many milestones passed, like uplisting, pilot plant built and proven, etc, the main reason I stay invested is that the demand for lithium over the next few years will surpass mine production and the ability of mines to scale fast enough for demand. Clean recycling will be a "key leg of the stool". And all this in an environment of rising lithium prices and margins! A pretty good set-up!
If you want to diversify in this sector, look at Aqua Metals AQMS. They are located near ABML in Nevada. They have a green process for lead recycling, and are moving into lithium with some patents on their process, also green. I've built a position of 40,000 shares and aiming for 50,000. And, like ABML they have a relationship with BASF too.
Thanks for your thoughts Hugo. You are the Papa bull on the top of the hill looking down at the pasture of cows. Walk down! LOL! Like Hugo says, time will be a good friend to ABML! Stay long and strong! GLTA!
My two cents says the mania is over for now and we're going to see shares move from weak hands to strong hands for a while. The PPS may already have adjusted for the start of the building so don't panic if the mania doesn't return with construction. But the uplist should bring fresh money, big money, from the restricted funds, and then we might see fireworks again. Will continue to hold my remaining 250,000 shares. ABML! GLTA!
Well said!
Enjoy the cabin in good health Hugo! The gain on my 500,000 shares these last six weeks was putting my portfolio risk/weighting levels on "tilt", so like you, this morning I sold half in a qualified account, leaving 250,000 at a basis of $.08 and the cash to buy back in if we should see a dip. Wished I had waited till the afternoon, but hey!
My "cabin" will be a small breezy villa with an ocean view in Curacao, an island I've gotten to know well, with a cool easy-going multi-national culture, and great diving, similar to neighboring Bonaire! Dream it. Do it.
Lots to look forward to. Uplist. Partnerships. Pilot plant. Scale up. Buy out. Dividends.
Wishing continued good fortune to all here! Still with you for the long haul.
ABML! GLTA!
I texted today with a friend who is a PHD scientist at a major US university and teaches battery systems, and asked what could threaten the huge lithium ion battery infrastructure being built right now. He said "We will need multiple technologies to address transportation needs. Lithium ion batteries will dominate light duty transportation. Hydrogen fuel cells will takeover the heavy duty market. Some researchers are betting on sodium ion batteries, but they are ten years out". My take away is that the LI battery will have a place for a generation. Food for thought. Position well. GLTA!
Thanks. Hopefully the market sees it that way tomorrow. On the plus side, an Australian lithium miner I own PILBF reports firming lithium prices in China due to increased demand. Fastmarkets confirms increasing prices for Lithium Carbonate week over week and month over month. GLTA!
Looks Like Dougie might have sold 60,000 shares. Not enough to be worried about. But if you ask me it's a dumbass move. Paints the wrong picture.
M&A expertise. Bring it!
ABML. It's about a lab proven proprietary technology, and an impressive group of people to implement that technology and scale it with huge margins. That's all.
If you are hung up on a building and permits you're too late to invest. They are already priced in. Don't waste your time here. If you are hung up on dilution my advice is to get out, because it's coming as the sale of stock or convertible debt - is there another way to finance expansion fast enough to dominate?
Pick another reason to own this one. Own it because you believe these guys will pull it off, or don't. Own it for the coming uplist. Own it because the Dems will give the industry wind at its' back, or for the eventual buyout by BASF. Own it because as the $/ton of battery grade lithium increases and ABML's cost/ton to recycle stays the same their margins will explode! Buy it because a bunch of pretty sharp people gave up top jobs at Tesla for a chance to get rich and be a disruptor. Own it because Melsert bought about 1.5 million shares with his savings in the open market. In my investment life I've never been disappointed following top managers wherever they go. I bet you guys can add a host of other reasons to own this one!
Progress on the ground and PPS aren't always a linear relationship.
I been hanging onto my 500,000 shares since $.12 and seen my share of great and terrifying days, and there will be more. But barring something bad, I won't be selling until the run up to the buyout that almost certainly comes shortly after the early plants are built. I hope you do the same and we make money together.
Best wishes to all this year! GLTA!
Great interviews with Cole earlier. Thanks for posting. Love the part where he refers to the cathode makers and said "they'll take everything we've got"! Who starts a business and can make that claim?!
And nice to see a floor being put in place after that anticipated sell-off. In for the long haul! GLTA!
It wouldn't surprise me if we learn that BASF or Tesla or B&D has acquired a stake exceeding 5%, requiring publication. That could be the solid bid we're seeing. Lotta dominoes falling into place. GLTA!
Solid close again after that late day selloff. I'd like to know where the big money is coming from. It's trading like an announcement is pending. Wish you all outsized gains for the holidays! GLTA!
A beautiful thing! LOL! My best day ever! Made a ton! Stay long friends. I won't let go of a single share until the buyout. The best is yet to come!
Big selloff in last hour Thursday was met with equally intense buying before the close. Solid late day buying Friday bodes well. Each day a new higher floor? And after trending lower for more than three and a half years could battery grade lithium prices be turning the last few weeks? Fastmarkets.com It appears prices may finally have a floor and be turning up. Appreciate your thoughts. Holding and in for the long haul. GLTA!
Fellow warriors - Nice bank today! The best is still to come! GLTA!
Makin' nice change today! $+.03 Go go go!
Someone's doing a lot of trading. Me? Like Michael Corleone. "I'm gonna wait" LOL! GLTA!
First post. Patient older investor. Been watching and accummulating. Now 500m shares. Not a trader. Gonna be a long game. Completion of the plant will be important. Hopefully not too much dilution as they scale it. A major partnership or acquisition of ABML would be great! Uplisting would be welcome news. But sooner or later electric car ownership will be widespread and the $lithium/ton will bottom and reverse, and when it does I'm betting ABML PPS will go up multiples of those increases. Help me with my thinking and GLTA!
