Israel Announces It Will Respond to Iran Missile Attack as Airlines Cancel Flights to Region
https://www.theepochtimes.com/world/israel-announces-it-will-respond-to-iran-missile-attack-as-airlines-cancel-flights-to-region-5629724?utm_source=goodeveningnoe&src_src=goodeveningnoe&utm_campaign=gv-2024-04-15&src_cmp=gv-2024-04-15&utm_medium=email&est=AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZeMgIkRb6dvH5LxAvWpUFB4ARlJpfEWq9FYrFR9g5Q%3D%3D
Israel’s military chief said on April 15 that Israel will respond to Iran’s missile and drone attack, but it’s not clear how or when.
Herzi Halevi, head of the Israel Defense Forces, told reporters that Iran’s strikes “will be met with a response” without elaborating. He spoke during a visit to the Nevatim air base, which Israel says suffered light damage in the Iranian attack.
“Iran wanted to harm the strategic capabilities of the State of Israel—that is something that had not happened before. We were prepared for the ‘Iron Shield’ operation—preparation that brought Iran to also meet air superiority,” he said. “Last Monday, we saw what was being organized, and we think that the State of Israel is very strong and knows how to deal with it alone, but with a threat so numerous and so far away, we are always happy to have [the United States] with us.
“Looking ahead, we are considering our steps, and this launch of so many missiles, cruise missiles, and UAVs into the territory of the State of Israel will be met with a response.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been huddling with top officials to discuss a possible response to Iran’s attack involving hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. World leaders have been urging Israel to not retaliate, while U.S. officials have suggested that Israel’s defense apparatus was overwhelmingly successful in dealing with Iran’s attack and intercepted 99 percent of their missiles and drones.
Iran’s attack on April 13 was the first time Tehran directly targeted Israel since the current regime took over in 1979. However, the country has been engaged in proxy attacks against both Israel and the United States originating from a number of Middle Eastern countries.

Airlines Cancel Flights
On April 15, a number of airline companies canceled or delayed flights again after the Iranian missile and drone attack. United Airlines and Air Canada, notably, canceled some flights into Tel Aviv as well as flights into Jordan.
About a dozen more companies announced that they would scrap flights to the country amid heightened tensions.
More Warnings
Iranian officials said the attack was carried out in response to an Israeli airstrike on April 1 on a Syrian compound that left two Iranian generals and other officials dead.
Over the weekend, Tehran issued more warnings to Israel to not respond, while noting that any U.S. intervention in the escalating conflict would be met with a response, too. All U.S. assets and bases in the region could be targeted, one official said.
“Our response will be much larger than tonight’s military action if Israel retaliates against Iran,” armed forces chief of staff Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri told state-run media in articles published on April 14. He claimed that Iran warned the United States through Switzerland that any support of an Israeli counterattack against Iran would lead to American assets being targeted.
After the drones and missiles were launched, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard issued a direct warning to the United States through state-run IRNA that the “U.S. government is warned any support or participation in harming Iran’s interests will be followed by decisive and regretting response by Iran’s armed forces.”
U.S. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby commented on April 15 about whether the United States had been or expects to be briefed on any Israeli response plans.
“We will let the Israelis speak to that,” he told reporters. “We are not involved in their decision-making process about a potential response.”
The Iranian attack on April 13 was the first time that Iran has launched a direct military assault on Israel, despite decades of enmity dating back to the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. The attack happened less than two weeks after a suspected Israeli strike in Syria that killed two Iranian generals in an Iranian consular building.
Israel’s military stated that its Arrow system, which shoots down ballistic missiles outside the atmosphere, handled most interceptions and noted that “strategic partners” were involved.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement that U.S. military forces “intercepted dozens of missiles and UAVs en route to Israel, launched from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen,” referring to a term used for unmanned aerial vehicles.
“At my direction, to support the defense of Israel, the U.S. military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week,” President Joe Biden said in a separate statement over the past weekend. “Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our service members, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles.”
Israel and Iran have been on a collision course throughout Israel’s six-month war against Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip after members of the group carried out a cross-border attack that left more than 1,200 civilians dead. More than 250 people were kidnapped during the Oct. 7, 2023, incident, according to officials. Israel’s government is still negotiating with Hamas for the release of the remaining hostages.

Inside Secret Nuke Bunker Built To House Entire US Congress
https://truthpress.com/news/inside-secret-nuke-bunker-built-to-house-entire-us-congress/
A Centuries-old luxury resort complete with 710 guest rooms, four golf courses, and meticulous gardens has long concealed a secret.
Buried beneath The Greenbrier in West Virginia is a mystifying nuclear bunker designed to hold the entire US Congress.
The opulent resort, nestled in the Allegheny Mountain town of White Sulphur Springs, has been popular with the likes of royalty and famed politicians since it opened in 1778.
So when works commenced on a new wing in 1958, few but a number of observant locals batted an eyelid.
An enormous hole was dug for the foundation of the new wing, and vast amounts of concrete were trucked in, along with strange materials including 110 urinals and huge steel doors.
Locals suspected the new development may have had a special purpose, but “agreed to be in on the secret” – and remained tight-lipped on the matter for 35 years.
It was later revealed that the US government approached The Greenbrier in the late 1950s, following a nuclear holocaust, and requested assistance in creating a secret bunker to house Congress.
The 720ft-underground facility – built from 1959 to 1962 and dubbed “Project Greek Island” – was a gloomy refuge with 1,000 beds, a 400-seat cafeteria, and a trash incinerator that could also be used as a crematorium.
There was also a hospital, an operating room, and a pharmacy stocked with plenty of antidepressants, as well as a Congressional Record Room that kept both files and a collection of weapons.
Measuring more than 112,000 sq ft, the two-level bunker – previously codenamed “Project Casper – is roughly the size of two football fields on top of one another.
It has four doors – the two largest weighing 28 and 20 tons respectively, and requiring 50lbs of force to open.
The blast door that divided The Greenbrier’s public area from the bunker was hidden in plain sight behind floral wallpaper.
Given how isolated The Greenbrier was, and that many of its guests were members of the political elite, the bunker could be considered “the ultimate congressional hideaway”, said the Washington Post.
Few cottoned onto its existence because it was built at the same time as an above-ground addition to the resort, the West Virginia Wing.
And because the locals who were in the know exercised their discretion.
But the bunker was never used as an emergency location, even during the Cuban Missile Crisis, despite being stocked with supplies and being completed the same year as the 13-day confrontation.
Its existence was not acknowledged by the government.
In 1992, The Washington Post wrote about the bunker in a 1992 story – and it was immediately decommissioned by the government.
In the years since, the facility has been renovated and is now used as a data storage facility by company CSX IP.
The resort remains today – as it was during the years the bunker was under construction – the biggest employer in Greenbrier County, a fact which may have contributed to locals’ commitment to secrecy.
A lifelong resident of western Greenbrier County, Trish Parker, said the bunker was the definition of an open secret.
She told Smithsonian Magazine: “People wondered about it to their husband, their wife, their brother—but they weren’t going to wonder about it to anyone else.
“They just didn’t talk about it to outsiders.”
She added: “Their father worked there (at The Greenbrier), their grandfather worked there, they worked there, their children were going to work there.
“There was the feeling that what was good for The Greenbrier was good for Greenbrier County.”
Pictures snapped by Lenox Carruth for the Civil Defence Museum before the bunker was closed to public tours show a dining hall a briefing room, a medical and dental infirmary, and a vaulted records storage room – together forming the eerie ghost of a shelter abandoned.

Hamas Says It Does Not Have 40 Hostages for Cease-Fire Deal
https://www.cf.org/news/hamas-says-it-does-not-have-40-hostages-for-cease-fire-deal/
Hamas has made an admission that could destroy plans for a ceasefire deal with Israel, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
The U.S., Israel and international negotiators have been trying to strike a temporary ceasefire deal with Hamas in exchange for the remaining hostages in Gaza, of which there are over 130, at least 36 of whom are dead, according to current Israeli estimates, as reported by the WSJ.
The current deal on the table is for Hamas to free 40 civilian hostages in exchange for a six-week ceasefire and the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
But the terrorist group can’t guarantee that it has enough living civilian hostages to release to meet the terms of the deal, according to the WSJ.
Hamas may not be able to release 40 living hostages, but could do a deal with 40 hostages, a Hamas official told the WSJ, meaning they could be alive or dead in captivity.
If Hamas can’t release the hostages requested, the ceasefire deal could fall through completely and the current war between the terrorist group and Israel could continue unabated.
It also raises fears for the families of the hostages who have been urging the Israeli government to reach a deal so that their loved ones could be released.
“It’s been six months since these people were taken into Gaza. These families have no second in the day or a second in the night that their minds are calm. They are in constant agony,” Ofer Merin, director-general at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem and a member of a forensic medical committee, told the WSJ.
A workaround for the current ceasefire proposal could be for Hamas to release captured IDF soldiers along with however many civilian hostages Hamas can muster, according to the WSJ. Hamas is hesitant to do this because it wants much higher concessions for the soldiers than it does for civilian hostages.
It is difficult to ascertain the current status of any of the remaining hostages. Hamas originally took over 240 hostages on Oct. 7, and over 100 of them have since been freed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), discovered to be dead or released as part of a previous week-long ceasefire deal in November.
As of February, U.S. and Israeli officials believed that only roughly 80 of the 130 hostages remaining in Gaza were still alive, according to the WSJ.
Many hostages previously believed to be alive died during the Hamas attacks against Israel, which killed roughly 1,200 people, and were taken back to Gaza.
