Welcome back Mickey!
I wondered about that comment also. Did I hear it right? Did he possibly hint about a possible settlement with ZTE?
Not to worry. There were about 20,000 shares traded in after hours. 99% of these trades were within pennies of today’s $86.05 close. The $83.76 price shown is misleading, since it simply denotes the price of very last (250) shares traded at the close.
Also, take a look at the chart to see the last sudden panic drop which occurred after last quarter’s earnings call on October 27th. Hopefully, this will also prove to be another wonderful opportunity to pick up some cheap shares.
Another repeat of last quarter's illogical drop on good news. Like many of you, I couldn't believe the sudden dramatic drop from $80.50 down to $68 when the 3rd quarter's results were announced on October 27th. The game players led the uninformed down the path to destruction. It was a great time to add more shares. When sanity returned, the ascending move confirmed our steadfast long term belief in this gem. So too this shall pass, and the drive onward and upward will resume.
Mickey,
Thanks for input. Your advice makes sense. In my 70's I need to be careful about gambling. I've been selling lately on the way up, but after this latest Apple announcement, I'm exercizing my rights to purchase more at $75.00 and $77.50. I'll take your advice and purchase some in and out of the money calls. Better not procrastinate since things are looking up for our little ole IDCC.

Congrats and thanks to all who have contibuted to this board over the years. Mickey has proven he's not as crazy as many had thought. In fact his discussion of options peaked my interest. When IDCC insanely dropped from $80 to $69 at the end of October when we missed earnings by a couple of pennies, I decided to try buying some Dec $75 & $77.50 calls. Never have I been able to gain that large and rapid return on any investment!!!!!
Thank you Mickey!
Also, here's a question for the stock charting experts. As a long time IDCC investor, I have followed it's founder, Sherwin Seligsohn, over to his other company Universal Display (OLED). Fortunately, it too has done well over the years. The reason I bring this up is that looking at the chart of Friday afternoon's (unwarranted) rapid price drop, both followed the EXACT same pattern. Any thoughts on what might be going on behind the scenes?

It is great to hear from you Bill! So glad that also hung on tight during the roller coaster ride of the past 20+ years. I must use this oportunity to say Thank You for educating me way back then, when you had your wonderful PR site dedicated to presenting IDCC information before InvestorsHub came along.
Like youself, I too am in my 70's and have seen my investment in IDCC grow to become my largest single holding. In addition to taking care of the educational needs of the grandkids, I have created a scholarship at my engineering alma mater where IDCC's co-founder is now a full PHD professor. BTW, for you and others reading this, a wonderful way to make charitible contributions is to donate highly appreciated stock instead of a check. The charity can sell the stock immediately at full value, and you receive the benefit of a charitible deduction, while avoiding paying capital gains tax.
With my very best wishes continued growth and for a Properous, Healthy, Happy, Blessed, Merry Christmas!
John
Nice coverage of Alcatel Lucent's announcement concerning their new technology being demonstated this week at the Mobile World Congress. Nice PR coverage. The only thing missing is the name of the company that developed it. Hopefully the licensing fees will follow without a hitch.

IDCC did get the word out last week....

Bayfield... Nice report. Glad to see Fidelity confirmed your ability to stop the shorts in their tracks. That's another million shares off the table. Hopefully others here will also contact their brokers to disallow shorters to "borrow" shares of IDCC via "hypothecation".
Go IDCC....Go USA!!!
As an old man, I thought I’d come out of the woodwork to pass this along. I just learned how we can make it more difficult for the shorts. Schwab just informed me that by removing the ability to purchase stock on “margin” from my account, my IDCC holdings are not available be “borrowed” by the shorters of the world. Check with your broker to help the IDCC cause. Tell them you want to eliminate “hypothecation”.
Thanks to all those who have contributed over the years.
Go IDCC…Go USA!!!
dndodd... you're right. Sorry I missed it. After holding onto IDCC for all these decades, I guess my old age is catching up with me. Thanks for all you do here for we old longs.

Loop’s words could not have been more timely!
Loop...You are the amazing! I've been a follower, believer, and investor in IDCC for over a decade. You don't post as often as you had in the past, but when you do, your posts speak volumes. The three you presented here early this morning say it all!
I agree that in order to survive, the system currently in place MUST CHANGE! I would like to receive your permission to consolidate these three posts into a single document to be forwarded to a very influential and respected University President friend of mine. I would also ask to extend that permission to my local US Senator and Congressman.
Please advise. Thank You...Jo
Rakitno, I agree with your thinking. In fact some of the long timers here will probably remember one such university collaboration with Stevens Institute of Technology (my Alma Mater) which formed the basis of IDCC’s bandwidth aggregation technology. With its long history and position in the wireless space Interdigital is in an excellent position to partner, capitalize, market, and monetize the ideas that our Universities are developing.

Here's a very informative CNBC interview yesterday which provides some insights which may have partially played into not getting a deal done last year.

On a personal note, it's refreshing to see all those get rich quick players finally bail as IDCC quietly moves back.
Yogi's infinite wisdom may prove correct again..."it's ain't over.."

Looks like you watched that 60 Minutes piece last night exempting US Senators & Congressmen from any penalties against insider trading...only in DC!!!!
Somthins Brewin...looks like someone picked up 500K shares at 1:55PM
I don't write very often so I didn't think they would listen when I wrote...
How About A Nortel Style Auction For IDCC...I'm getting tired and too old to keep waiting...and waiting...and...ZZZZZZ
Executives buying company stock was a hot topic at the recent Annual meeting. I was there when one of the attendees from the audience asked something to the effect…when was the last time anyone here (other than we investors) bought stock in the open market? There was dead silence. Chairman Clontz’s eventual response about their having to pay taxes on their option grants was lame.
If the confidence expressed by Merritt and others is real then they placing their money at risk with the rest of us would certainly be reassuring. On this same topic is this mornings AP story from Detroit...
“Akerson said he isn't worried about GM's slumping stock price. The company has performed in line with its competitors, all of which have seen stock declines in recent months. Akerson recently spent $940,000 of his own money to buy 30,000 GM shares, a gesture executives often use to boost confidence in a company.”
Are you listening Bill, Terry, Gil, Scott, et al?
Dividends accounted for approx $4.2MM (44MM X $.10)

Fantastic Read...Thank You! You have stimulated me to get off my butt to contribute my small part. Here is a copy of an email than I just sent to PA Senator Arlen Specter. Since IDCC is headquartered in PA and since Sen Specter is an attorney and sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, I thought he should be motivated to get on board. Perhaps others here might also want to contribute to the cause via Senator Specter and/or their own US Senators.
Dear Senator Specter,
Protecting our Intellectual Property (IP) is one of strongest long term Stimulus Bills that you can introduce to allow dollars to flow back into our economy from abroad.
We have a leading edge technology company, Interdigital (http://interdigital.com) located in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania which employs hundreds of engineers and brings millions of dollars annually into the US economy. This company had been struggling to keep non US organizations from stealing its technology. Here is just released (3/12/10) in depth investigative report which demonstrates how foreign companies like Nokia have conspired to steal their patented technology.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=47768470
I urge you to work to protect one of the strongest assets that the United States has to market to the Global Marketplace…our patented ingenuity and technology.
Thank You

Badger...Ditto...Outstanding Post!
JohnS...Very well written. Just hope our messages will someday be heard. Glad to see the analysts finally put the heat on management in a public forum.

Agreed...Major League technology with Little League management. It certainly was refreshing to hear the analysts finally quit kissing and start kicking butt...Game On!!!
Per Interdigital's Website...InterDigital seeks to build shareholder value through strong financial performance and effective communication with its shareholders.
...need some real help with the effective communication part.
Even if that offer was from NOKIA? UGH!!! Why pony up $500MM in royalties when you can get the entire company with all its cash and IP for only $900MM (moving up). Perhaps an underlying motive to its trash and burn IDCC. Then when you add the benefit of the strong Euro vs the weak Dollar. You're getting a real bargin.
Jo
At a current price of $20 our market cap looks mighty attractive for acquisition! Why pay royalties when you can buy the entire company along with all its current cash, future cash flow, and income generating IP portfolio for only $875MM…and no debt! Very tempting… think I’ll see if I can take out a home equity loan.
Added more this AM and still keeping the faith… Jo
Go Phillies!...and IDCC!
AMC & lemno… Agreed about the poor PR. However there is a bright side to this. By keeping this good news buried under wraps in the 8K the stock price will remain low. We crazy dedicated long time believers are therefore being rewarded with more shares bought back at bargain prices.
Just hope I will still be around to reap the benefits.
Jo
I’m feeling more comfortable having listened to the company’s conference call this afternoon. Suggest that everyone who didn’t have the opportunity to listen go to the company’s web site for a rebroadcast. Bill Meritt made it loud and clear that the IDCC licensing team is not backing down on its demands and are prepared to take whatever steps are necessary to bring renegade Nokia into compliance.
Jo
It Ain't Over Til It's Over
Loop... "Patent 574 IS enforceable.". Does this give us any leverage despite the negatives on the others? Perhaps some hope.
Thanks, Jo
Exactly...Not To Worry...As I stated in my earlier post, many investors (speculators) jumped on board and saw a nice run up from 23 to 31 in July. It was logical to wait for an announcement of a settlement. With none forthcoming they started bailing in the last 30 minutes before yesterday’s close. IMO this is just a continuation. They are now taking their quick profits rather than gamble and wait for Dr. Lucken to deliver.
Still confident in our baby.
Jo
MTCKV...Agree. IMO you're right on target. Bet many are up early today checking the long awaited news. Interesting action at yesterday's close. Despite the markets’ brief run up at the end of the day, we went the other way. Why? I think many, including myself, were expecting a last minute settlement announcement, sending us up like a rocket. Without that, short term investors bailed in the last 30 minutes or so. Now we long termers are all sitting and waiting in that same "maternity ward" awaiting the news. I am keeping the faith in our baby “Q’s” (sorry couldn’t resist) arrival. I am holding on and keeping the faith in Dr. Luckern's capable hands and do believe the odds are in our favor for a successful delivery.
Hopefully this ugly nightmare called Nokia will go away once and for all when we awaken.
Good Luck to all…jo
PS Looking forward to that gift cigar (One Time Bonus Dividend)
Does IDCC take American Express?
If this is the way the WS game is played, this doesn't bode well for IDCC's ability to gain the "respect" of the WS community. Now if they were losing money and didn't have $5/share (and growing) in cash and needed to borrow to go along with their story.
Sounds like what the Countrywide Mortgages of the world were doing a few short years ago.
Thanks, Jo
Me thinks Mr. Simonson is finally beginning to feel the heat and is seeing the ice melt up in dem der frozen hills and that IDCC guillotine is about ready to fall on his b—ls. He is about to become deservedly FINNISHed!
JMHO...Jo
