Hi the reason the alerts continue is because we track the up and down movement through pre post and regular market hours for many of our alerts. To only get pre market select the pre market highs and lows
Thank you for your suggestion. We will add this to the feature list of next bot upgrade!
Automated Trading With Trade-Ideas
We have been doing a bit of work on the automated trading front. We have several bots that are out right now. One is with Assent and another with TD Ameritrade and another with IB. MB Trading bot will be coming online at the beginning of the year. You should check out our youtube channel at
http://www.youtube.com/user/TradeIdeas
Right now we are keeping the automated development under our own control as this seems to be a very interesting right now.
The consolidation algorithm has a lot to do with recent volatility. The more volatility the wider the algorithm forces the ranges to become. What can look like a consolidation to you on a chart when viewed from a slightly different angle may not be a consolidation at all statistically. Lets get this resolved. Please send the collaboration link of your strategy to info@trade-ideas.com and we will take a closer look to see how to help you resolve the issue.
Hi,
I will answer both of your questions. The API is designed for integrating our alerts software into other applications like trading software. You can't code your own alerts and filters with the API.
For the second question you can do that with this filter http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinVol5
In general you are talking about a stock that trades about 1,092,000 shares a day on average. So you can use that as the baseline.
We are working on adding SMA slope as a window specific filter. That is in the works. Keep your eye on this section http://www.trade-ideas.com/WhatsNew.html
I just looked at your setting and CAT came across at 9:54 am Pacific time.
Are the conditions combined with an "and" or an "or"?
Different parts of the alert window are combined in different ways.
Each alert type is combined with an or. If you select multiple alert types, you will see stocks matching the criteria of any one or more of the alert types. For example, if you check both the running up (confirmed) and the running down (confirmed) alert you will see all stocks which are running up or down.
The alert specific filters are each associated with only one alert type. For example you can request to see stocks only which (((are making new highs) and (these are 5 day highs)) or ((are making new lows) and (these are 10 day lows))).
The window specific filters are typically combined with an and. For example if you set the minimum price to $5, and the maximum price to $90, you will only see stocks trading between those two prices. Read the detailed help for each filter for some exceptions and other details.
The alert types combine with the window specific filters using an and. A stock must satisfy at least one of the alert conditions and all of the window specific filter conditions for you to see it.
Some conditions are available as both alerts and filters. This gives you more options when you configure a window. For example you can use the high relative volume alert and the running up alert to see stocks meeting either criteria. Or you can use the running up alert with the min current volume filter to see stocks which meet both criteria.
You can create multiple alert windows for completely different alert conditions. This way you can see all stocks which match either one set of filter conditions or a different set of filter conditions.
An alert message is always caused by a specific event, which we organize by alert type. The filters allow you to suppress alerts meeting specific criteria. For this reason you always need to specify at least one alert type, but can specify any number of additional filters. This shows one of the biggest differences between an alerts server and a stock screener: The alerts server sends a message when specific market events occur. A stock screener responds to different types of events, such as when you hit the refresh button.
In general it is not meaningful to combine two or more alert types with an and. Alert types, unlike filters, are events which occur instantaneously. While it is possible that two alerts will happen at exactly the same time, this is usually coincidence. (The quickest, easiest way to see a lot of alerts at once is when the exchange reports a really bad print.) What you probably wanted in this case was one alert event happening or almost happening near the same time as another alert. The window specific filters smooth out the data, allowing you to achieve this.
Take a look at this video help.

OTC BB and Pink Sheets are coming in about a week.
I looked at your set up and think you got it right on the button. As you know Trade-Ideas gives you the alerts in real-time so it does not sort. We are adding that functionality to a future release.
If you want to run trade ideas on two different computers at the same time you would have to have two differnt licenses.
I understand what you are saying. It looks as though there is no automated way to do that and it is a shame. I am going to suggest that Scottrade add that functionality in the next upgrade.
Open up Trade-Ideas in Scottrade Elite. In any of the alerts windows select Alerts List and then select Create and Modify Alert list, then set up your saved windows in there.
Right now we don't have the ADX, but it is already in our development cycle. When people get back from holiday we will get back to adding more features.
Scott,
Here is what I came up with:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=3_1D_0&QNHP=5&QNLP=5&MaxMA20P=2&MinMA20P=-2&am...
It is not exact because we don't set things up the way you described but it should be close enough for sure.
Ok we will take a look and see what we can do
Where do you get the data for indication?
You would want to open a new alert window and right click in it to select configure. From there, you will be at the Strategies tab. Open up the preconfigured strategies and select start from scratch by clicking on it and then pressing the load settings button.
After that click on the Select Alerts tab and scroll down towards the bottom until you see 5 minute highs and lows. Check them both. Then name the window 5 minute highs and lows.
If you want to only look at a certain group of stocks create a symbol list and apply that window to your list
The Quality column is working as it should. We use calendar days not trading days because they are easier to keep track.
There was a database error in the overnight process which caused the symbol lists to be invisible. That error has been corrected and you should now see the lists.
The count tells you how many times that alert has taken place but it does not relate to the filters you have for any given window. It is very possible that the filters and alerts combined made it so that the first time you saw the move with the appropriate volume etc was the 26th one. This FAQ will help.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/FAQ.html#Q23
You can track support and resistance via alerts:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#CARC
or via highs and lows which have additional support and resistance information in the message. Our support and resistance algorithm is dynamic so it is never just a static number that we can report it is always in a state of change.
We have done some extensive work on Woodie's CCI. Once we release our ODD$-MAKER you will be able to test to see which of Woodie's or any other strategy works. We will keep you posted on Woodie as we get closer.
Gaps are caclulated based on the opening price compared to the closing price of yesterday. I am not sure what you mean by time sensitive could you elaborate please.
I am not 100% sure it is possible but here is how I would do it. Got to the window specific filters and look at the very last filter. That is the occurance filter. You can set that to Max 1 and it will only show you one alert, the first per symbol.
Then use global action function found in the console window where you log in and Under "On Each Alert" select Send to linked Window.
Scott,
There is a trade off, if you want sooner you will have to get more alerts making it a little more difficult to parse through it. Maybe you can describe to me what exactly you are looking for and I can try to make something specific for you.
Corey,
That alert is triggered by prints. Bad prints will cause that alert to miss fire which is why it is important confirm it on a chart. I will look up your specific examples to see if there is anything particular which caused the problem.
Most likely it is cause by your MAX spread filter set to 1 penny. The only time you are going to see an alert is if the spread is one cent or less.
Additionally, our API is written in ActiveX. ActiveX working in a variety of programming languages, including Python. We don’t have any Python programmers on staff, which is why we don’t have any samples in Python. But you should be able to make it work. A quick Google search suggests http://www.python.org/windows/win32com/ as a reference on how to do this.
Can you tell us a little bit about your application. Is it just for you or do others use it as well?
Use the following filters with no alerts set http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#wsf_MinGUD
Add the Max count filter set at about 5
Right now we do not support ADX, however, if you can describe in English what you are specifically looking for I would be able to create it for you.
We just tested the upgraded version of Trade-Ideas inside Scottrade Elite. Here are the main improvements.
1) When you save your layout, now the software remembers your Trade-Ideas window settings as part of the layout
2) You have the capability of having your own symbol lists and you can have as many as you like and modify them
3) You have the ability to save your alert window settings better and make as many custom personal strategies as you like
Great Job Scottrade!!!!!!
Here is what is happening. Because Scottrade users get Trade-Ideas for free there is a different scheme to loggin on and using the preconfigured strategies.
What you should do is copy the links that I paste into this board and then open up trade-ideas window in Scottrade and right click and select collaborate. Then paste the link you just highlighted from this board into the collaborate window.
That should allow you to see the strategies I post here through Trade-Ideas inside Scottrade.
The second one is all done there is not too much else to add. What it is looking for is stocks that are strong already today, then are pulling back and we alert you right when the pullback takes place. The idea is to buy in and around the time of the alert, and if it continues down, simply get out that is why I said anywhere from 25-40 cents depending on the share size you trade.
Here is some more good stuff on volatility
In terms of volatility we have some really nice video help.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/VideoHelp/Menu.html?video=Introduction%20to%20Volatility
Take a look at these two set ups. They are good in that right away on the chart you can visually see the stops and why you are buying.
1) http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=4000000000000000002400100000000000000_3D_0&MaxRD=15&Mi...
The stop here would be a new low.

The stop here is usually about 30-40 cents depending on your share size.
Here is what I came up with. Is this similar to yours?
