Hello Everyone
I have been gone now for a few weeks.. Is anything going on?
Pretty disappointing to say the least on the stock price.. I am holding... I don't know how long...
Spa
So is Virgin Comics dead or not? Their website's still up at last check, but reports of cutbacks are flying, and how much room for cutbacks could they have? I always found their business model suspect. As I've mentioned before they're not the first company predicated on titles created by "stars" with the grunt work performed by work-for-hire comics talent, with the goal of generating mass media franchises from the properties; that's how the runaway smash success story of the 1990s, the much-loved Tekno Comics, became the industry powerhouse they are today. I've written several times over the past couple of years of how comics, industry and fandom, now need to get over their deep-seated inferiority/superiority complex, because contrary to deeply held tenets the general public no long perceives us as something ridiculous, demented or retarded and now accepts comics as just one more entertainment option. The one place this doesn't seem to hold is when companies originating outside the comics industry make a play to "improve" comics by bringing in people who have little or no experience with comics in any form to "create" comics, especially when they have little to do with the creative act itself. Sometimes this is simply a marketing ploy - porn queen Jenna Jameson's name attached to a horror comic is bound to get some mainstream publicity just on notoriety - and sometimes the presumption is that a popular "outside talent" will create something bold and original that the ex-fanboy hacks mired in all the trash preconceptions of comics could never come up with in a million years.
You know, like Clive Barker's Razorline.
You're welcome to call it sour grapes, but it's been my general observation that "outsiders" (I'm tired and can't think of a better or less pejorative word, but take it as a neutral descriptive term if you can) a) tend to operate on either their last exposure to comics no matter how lost in the mists of time, or on what they heard about comics once, and usually have little exposure to current trends in comics, and have next to no exposure to the comics form, but neither they nor their publishers think that necessary; or b) they're huge comics fans and are dying to replicate all they ever loved in comics, whether that's Stan Lee or Al Feldstein or Alan Moore or Grant Morrison.
In either case (and it's funny how accomplished writers in other media will often hold their potentially most profitable ideas for those media and reserve their "comic book" ideas for comics, because most of them aren't stupid, although with the spreading notion of comic as movie or TV pilot that's changing some) the result usually only reinvents the wheel. And we've got enough wheels. Modern inventions would be better. (WATCHMEN, for instance, may be a new idea to people unfamiliar with comics and a popular one with people who love comics, but it is 20+ years old now. Same with DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. Used to be that if you kept up with Hollywood you'd be well ahead of comics - remember when Marvel introduced MASTER OF KUNG FU about 20 minutes after the Bruce Lee-inspired initial kung fu craze here in American went belly up? - but with the current state of things if you keep up with Hollywood you'll be well behind comics. Even if you ultimately want to sell to movies, whatever medium the medium you want to sell to goes for ideas, that's the one you need to keep up with, not the one that's your eventual goal. Currently, if you want to do comics, you need to keep up with what's going on in comics. Because there's a lot going on, but most of it's going on in the margins.)

Comic Con 2008 - Thurday
Thursday was a bit of a slow start. I went solo to the Grant Morrison/Stan Lee panel (the wife's hair wasn't ready to go yet) which, surprisingly, turned out to be a monumental event in the history of anti-chemistry. The thing was hosted by Virgin comics CEO (Depak Chopra’s son, incidently) who was not a strong enough moderator to get the discussion functioning well. The panel had Lee, a god of self-aggrandizement (with a sliver of self-deprecation), at his most self aggrandizing, and Morrison, a very interesting speaker, being reverential (I think in an attempt to get out in front of Lee’s shtick, and maybe have a real discussion) and not much else. So Grant’s good speaking qualities were nullified, and Stan played the irritating huckster end of his persona.
Morrison is working for Virgin on a motion capture/CGI animated (videogame-looking) version of a 10,000 year old Hindi myth about a family of deities going to war. This will be released as installments for cell phones. Interesting project, I guess, but I don’t really want to spend time watching anyone, even someone very interesting, play World of Warcraft.
Lee is working on a new universe for Virgin, and nothing of the past 35 years suggests this will be any good. The dancing around subjects was interesting, and the bit comedy (mostly concerning Lee’s inability to understand Morrison’s Scotts accent, and Morrison’s impression of a New York Cabbie – this included prop comedy, when Lee inserted an earpiece in his ear, saying it was like the ones they used at the UN) was well received.
It’s always nice to see either Lee or Morrison, but I think they worked against each other here.

Stan Lee said, "I am honored to be in association with Disney, not only through the extension of our original deal, but also in breaking ground by creating a new superhero, that is destined to bring his own brand of thrills and adventure to so many varied forms of story telling as only Disney can provide them." Lee continued, "Our Time Jumper' is more than a typical superhero. He's a trend-setting breakthrough across all media; a hero for today's digital age and tomorrow's multiplatform entertainment."

Comic-Con 2008!
My 12-year-old daughter and I went to Comic-Con on Thursday, July 24. It was extremely crowded, but still ended up being a lot of fun. The main event for me was the Stan Lee-Grant Morrison panel where they talked about their projects for Virgin Comics (actually, Stan only said that he couldn't talk about his projects with Virgin until later in the fall after Virgin makes an official announcement. Grant was able to talk about his project [a motion-capture video about an Indian myth for the Virgin website] because it's close to completion). The main event for my daughter was the Summit Entertainment presentation for three of their films- "Push", "Knowing", and most importantly to my daughter and thousands of other tweens and teens, "Twilight", based on the series of novels by Stephanie Meyer (my daughter read all three books in a week). The exhibition floor was always packed, and every vendor ran out of the good giveaways after the first hour. Nevertheless, it was worth doing, but so completely exhausting that I can't imagine attending all four days except in small doses.

Stan Lee, creator of the venerable Spider-Man and other Marvel Comics’ legends, has reportedly partnered with The Walt Disney Co. to create exclusive digital content distributed online and via portable media devices such as Apple Inc.’s iPod.
Through his POW Entertainment production company, Lee will develop his latest creation, Time Jumper, into content for various digital channels, including the mobile phone, according to London-based Financial Times’ Web site.
Jumper is about a teenager who travels through time using a mobile phone to fight global terrorists.
"Comics have always been a springboard for movies," Lee told the FT. "This deal means they can be a springboard for a new form of entertainment."
Lee said Time Jumper "is right up Disney's alley,” for young people but is something that older people will also enjoy. It lends itself to new types of media".
The deal reportedly will be announced July 25 at the Comic-Con confab in San Diego.
"Our focus is to not only help deliver the story, but also become an interactive part of telling the story of Time Jumper," said Paul Yanover, EVP and GM of Disney Online.
Other Lee projects included in the Disney deal: Nick Ratchet, a private detective; Blaze, an action adventure; and Tigress, a woman who develops tiger-like instincts.

Just think, I know how it feels with out Vaseline now. Actually I starting feeling it about 3 years ago.
The San Diego Comic-Con starts in just over 11 more days, which means it's time to yet again gear up and prepare for one hell of an adventure in the world of comics. While the last few years have featured everything from Spider-Man 3 to 300 to Iron Man to Superbad, this year doesn't look as immensely impressive, but is instead spotted with a few highlights. Presentations this year include: The Day The Earth Stood Still, Max Payne, Red Sonja, RocknRolla, Ninja Assassin, Punisher: War Zone, Repo! The Genetic Opera, Watchmen, The Wolfman, The Spirit, Terminator Salvation, Pixar's Up, Pineapple Express, Friday the 13th, Wes Craven's 25/8, and much more! The last two years, Saturday has been the big day, but this year it's Friday. Interested in seeing the full schedule? Read on!

Goofs
Crew or equipment visible: During the ending gun battle scene when the camera switches to view the right side of En-joo (Tim Kang) you see a shot of the camera equipment behind him. (This is when he climbs up the steps to the upper tower for cover and better shooting position).
Factual errors: When the sniper shots two guards, they get thrown backwards three or four meters. This is against physics and not possible with any kind of light weapons such as pistols, rifles and even 12,7 mm anti aircraft.
Factual errors: The "Tallboy" bomb was never used in the pacific theatre of operations. It was designed to smash German concrete structures and could only be dropped by a British Lancaster bomber, which didn't operate in Burma.
Factual errors: When John Rambo is passing by the empty boat that had previously attacked his party, the motor is clearly not running in one shot since the front pulley is not turning (23:54).
Continuity: In the final gun battle sequence, Rambo uses the jeep mounted gun to fire on the driver, and splatters blood all over the bullet shield. When he gets off of the machine gun, the bullet shield is mysteriously clean.
Revealing mistakes: In the final gun battle sequence when Rambo goes to reload ammo for the jeep mounted .50 cal machine gun, he grabs the full ammo box and it clearly says 840 Crtg 5.56 ball M855 10 rounds Clips. This is not the correct ammo type, style or ammo box for the weapon he is using. Though the Burma regulars may be using surplus ammo boxes it would make a logistic problem trying to keep track of what ammo you have if everything is mismatched.
Continuity: During the scene when Rambo is going to lead the tracking dogs away from the girl and Schoolboy, Schoolboy’s hat brim keeps changing how its bent in between shots. It changes from peaked to flat to a round shape.
Revealing mistakes: Rambo's boat has a hidden inboard motor at the stern, you can see the water churning from under the boat in views of the rear of the boat. Revealing mistakes: You cannot fully silence the BMG 50 sniper rifle, yet Schoolboy's midnight shots can't be heard.
The business model they use is all for me and none for everyone else. This company is a front for their own pockets. Draining every penny that they take in from their production fees, borrowing from the sale of stock, stating that they put the money into future productions, writing them down. Then selling some of the finished products to themselves at a discount repaying the company from the moneys they took and the list goes on..
For anyone reading this its all in the SEC reports.. Fortunately its all for anyone to see.. Dead Company and will be till they cant find anyone to GIVE them money to put in their pockets. Its a shame the SEC investigations don't get involved. Too many scams out there to look into their business practices..
I have one question. If they are going to do it all over again they will need a whole new group of investors, Who? anybody with an ounce of intelligence will see that this is a dieing company when it comes to value. Restructuring???? For what.. These guys are losers or more like bed bugs sleeping with other bed bugs.. They all are the same,,,, They bite..and are parasites on the system.

Ultimo Contest!
Face Front, Fellow POWsers!
It's your ol' platoon leader, Sergeant Stan, comin' atcha again!
I've got another contest for you, but please don't waste time with your heartfelt thanks and expressions of boundless appreciation. I'm aware of your intense feelings of gratitude. After all, it's not for nothing that I'm known far and wide as Sensitive Stan.
Now here's the contest. (See? I can write simple sentences)
It involves a couple of questions in celebration of the great new manga epic "Ultimo," written by me and illustrated by the indescribably talented Hiroyuki Takei, arguably Japan's greatest and most famous manga artist.
All you have to do is be the first to email me the correct answers to the two tough questions which I'll give you as soon as I figure out how to end this seemingly interminable introduction.
Ultimo, the epic fantasy thriller that Hiroyuki-san and I are collaborating on, will be published in a magnificent manga edition in Japan. Once the episodes are printed, Ultimo will probably become a blockbuster movie or a smash TV series.
Now here's the cool part. Our contest's prize will be the all-Japanese version of Ultimo, as it appears in the world's largest-selling comicbook. Of course, it'll be written in Japanese, so you may have to spend a week or two learning the language, but hey, it'll be worth it, right?
Okay, all you have to do is answer correctly the two questions below and be the first one to get your answers to me! If you do, the Ultimo manga, autographed by me, will be yours. Incidentally, I'm sure you're aware that you have to pay extra to have your phone number unlisted, right? Well, same with my autograph. If you don't want me to sign it, it'll cost you extra! (Sorry! I couldn't resist that!)
As usual, send your submissions to stanleemyspacesubmissions@gmail.com.
And here are the questions to mangle your mind---
1) Name the supervillain I created who shares his name with a Chinese dialect. Also, who was the hero he vowed to destroy?
2) Name the main female character in Hiroyuki Takei's "Shaman King."
I'm embarrassed to tell you this, but I hadda look up the answers myself! See? And you thought I was perfect!
Hang Loose, Believers!

Anything?
When is the reverse split coming? 2008, 2009, 2010..
Don't worry people, it will happen unless the SEC gets wise and put these people where they need to be...
Has anyone ever check to see if the OS has changed?
Watching the video of how a pump and dump scheme works I was just wondering. Many of you follow this religiously and should know the answer to it?
Thanks

POW! MOTTO CONTEST & IRON MAN MINI CONTEST WINNERS!
Hi, Fellow POWsers!
This is it! The momentous moment you've been waiting for-- announcing the winners of not one, but two of Pow's justly celebrated, world-famous contests!
First, our "Motto for POW!" contest. Man, was it ever a tough decision for me to make because every one of you proud POWsers came up with such meritorious mottos that I wanted to pick 'em all. In fact, since I had so much trouble deciding, I ended up picking five winners! And there were dozens more that also deserved a prize! I almost had to toss a coin, but I was broke as usual. Anyway, to end the suspense, here are the top five: "The Future is POW!" (Jbringsfield) "Putting the POW! back in comics! (Johnath) ""It's here! It's now! It's POW!" (Daniel) "POW! is WOW!" (James)"POW! KNOWS HOW!" (Ron)
And now, here's something that's never been done before! Since it's my contest and I can do whatever I want, I wrote a motto, too! This is the first time the judge himself entered his own contest! I'm putting my entry in with the list of winners, although it's a different type of motto—but I think some of you long-time Spider-Man fans may get a kick out of it. Ready? Here goes: "With great POW comes great excitability!" (SLee) Hey, that'll give you something to debate about!
Okay, it's Iron Man time! I was impressed by how many of you really paid attention and nailed the correct answer. And you know it takes a lot to impress me! But, unlike our motto contest, in this mini one for ol' Shell Head there's only one indescribably lucky winner-- Mark Allan Thomason, a name that we, with our legendary largesse, have just immortalized. He was the first to give us the correct answer as to where my unforgettable, award-worthy cameo took place. The answer of course was-- "The Disney Concert Hall."
Congratulations to our winners and, to the rest of you, never forget—no POWser is ever a loser! We'll just keep having contests until everybody has won at least once! And if that doesn't work, we'll take the easy way out and announce everybody's name even without a contest! That sure would make it easy for me—and I know that making things easy for me is always uppermost in your list of priorities!
And now, True Believers-- till next time— put the Wow in POW!

You just confirmed it for me that the market makers with the limited number of shares are just playing games. One day they will get caught with their pants down. I also do realize that the shares that we hold, they play with.. Believe it.. Only thing is if they sell our shares from their holdings and if they get caught in a short squeeze they will be screwed..
Does anyone know the total OS and since Stan and his wife control 90% knowing the total outstanding shares would be helpful.
It would also give us an idea what the numbers are in the float.
