Heather Cox Richardson makes a great argument today about the pardon.
Not shocked at all.
Flying from New York to LA is cheap but no one can afford to eat.
Did you spell crook wrong?
RFK telling us how he became smarter after he started using heroin is such a good example for our youth today.
At the fruit stand where he works on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Shah Alam sells dozens of bananas a day at 35 cents a piece, or four for a dollar. He does a brisk business in cheap fruit outside Sotheby’s auction house; inside, art can sell for millions.
But last Wednesday, Mr. Alam sold a banana that a short time later would be auctioned as part of a work of absurdist art, won by a cryptocurrency entrepreneur for $5.2 million plus more than $1 million in auction-house fees.
A few days after the sale, as Mr. Alam stood in the rain on York Avenue and East 72nd Street, snapping bananas free of their bunches, he learned from a reporter what had become of the fruit: It had been duct-taped to a wall as part of a work by the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, and sold to Justin Sun, the Chinese founder of a cryptocurrency platform.
And when he was told the sale price, he began to cry.
“I am a poor man,” Mr. Alam, 74, said, his voice breaking. “I have never had this kind of money; I have never seen this kind of money.”
Nyt.
If you think trans rights is the major issue facing the USA and we should be caring what bathroom Mace thinks she owns while the Republicans are dismantling the New Deal and the Great Society you’re simply helping them do it. Or something like that.
Should men who wear makeup use the men’s room?
He’s a con man. He knows the right fires to stoke.
The thing is Peter Theil and the nominee for treasury are both gay with children.
I can’t tell you how different it is on X now after so many people have left. I have always followed mostly right-wing accounts because I cover them, and they are running out of people to pick fights with. So they’re just mostly fighting with each other.

You people really need to kick the x habit.
Anyone have access to the doge boys essay in the WSJ?
Well you should have been more respectful!
I was in 8th grade.
Then on Sunday I was raking leaves when my father called in because Ruby had just shot Oswald. Such a weird time.
I remember it was a Friday and the principal of our school came into our classroom and told us the President had been shot.
He resigned for this term and said he wouldn’t take the oath in the next term because he was nominated for AG. Only time will tell if he changes his mind. Oslt

No more pearly Gaetz?
But he was re elected?
I’m wondering how blackcat is with the bomb cyclone and all.
The difference between republicans and democrats is that under the circumstances the Greatz report would already be made public if he were a democrat.
The best post I’ve seen today!
Remind me, please. It’s been a while.
Why did Sen. Al Franken resign?
5 out of 5 republicans believe having sex with underage girls is totally acceptable.
Yes. People can afford to eat. In 2023 we took a withdrawal from a 401k plan. In 2024 we made that money back.
Yesterday I did some food shopping.the parking lot was full, the aisles were crowded, and the lines were long.
Most of these seats are being bought in one way or another.

Manhattan D.A. Suggests Freezing Trump’s Case While He Is President
With his sentencing on hold, lawyers for President-elect Donald J. Trump are pushing to dismiss the case. The district attorney, Alvin Bragg, is opposing the effort.

But where could you go instead? In the past couple of years, there have been several attempts to promote alternatives to X, but none of them really caught on. To some extent this may have reflected flaws in their designs, but a lot of it was simply lack of critical mass: Not enough of the people you wanted to interact with could be found on the alternative sites.
Then came this year’s presidential election, which seems to have sparked an exodus (“Xodus”?) from Muskland. From my point of view, Bluesky, in particular — a site that functions a lot like pre-Musk Twitter — quite suddenly has reached critical mass, in the sense that most of the people I want to hear from are now posting there. The raw number of users is still far smaller than X’s, but as far as I can tell, Bluesky is now the place to find smart, useful analysis.
And yes, most of the new Bluesky posters I find useful are liberal, but that reflects the modern right’s anti-intellectualism rather than political bias on the part of the site.
I have no idea what this means for X’s financials, and I don’t care. What I see is that you can indeed ruin a network if you try hard enough. And it’s starting to look as if Musk has managed to pull it off.
Krugman
The Boston College Republicans say there have been “escalating attacks on conservative students” at the university in the days since Donald Trump won the election.
“Conservative students have been targeted on social media and on campus, being told that they condone rape, sexism, racism, and every other ‘ism’ in the English dictionary,” the club’s executive board wrote an op-ed in The Heights, BC’s student newspaper. “We will no longer sit idly by while unhinged people openly defame the character of students who voted for President Trump.”
In the letter, the group asked that members of the BC community “avoid shutting each other out,” and instead they encouraged “respectful political discussion.”

“The country has spoken, and it is time for our community to come together around our shared values as Americans,” the group wrote.
James Markis, the former president and a current member of the BC Republicans, told Boston.com that a club member received backlash after reposting a post on social media that called for people not to let politics interfere with their friendships.
Markis also alleged that he was “hip-checked” by a fellow student.
Jack Dunn, a spokesperson for BC, said the university has “received no reports of students being targeted on social media or on campus as a result of the election.”
They do this for a living. It’s not that I don’t feel the same way you do.
The media as a whole failed the country in this election. The internet simply became an echo chamber of did you see what Trump did today. It was like Harris wasn’t even in the race. How she got so many votes almost seems astonishing.
Rather than outrage we need some real reporting. Time will tell if the media is up to that or not.
Or something like that.
I don’t watch these people never have but I don’t understand why they shouldn’t open a communications link with the soon to be office holder.?
