News release!
We are scaling up drug production for our trial!
That's a vaccine.
While that may help decrease the transmission of disease, that is not a cure for the virus. It also doesn't stop some people from developing Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome from Acute Lung Injury causes by Covid (which is what we at Algernon are developing a treatment for).
Thanks for the post but to be honest there are hundreds of companies developing vaccines so I think we should try and limit this board to relevant competitor therapies.
In other words,
The CRO "Novotech" will conduct our trial for us, and the researchers will watch the data roll in. They will see if the treatment is working. That data is theoretically "available" right then and there. However, it will be disclosed by the company to the public. Any approval of the drug would come after adequate research to see if it works.
This all usally takes a long time, years TBH. However, we are in EXTRAORDINARY times and this world crisis demands immediate solutions. Everyone government and all physicians are going to try and fast track drugs to the market. We need to save lives. Algernon wants to save lives.
Currently there are no treatments for coronavirus. These things take time. Anything going into humans has to be explicitly tested in Phase 2/3 clinical trials specifically for coronavirus. You can't extrapolate and say "hey this works for something else and is safe, let's just start using it" and make humans guinea pigs...
Just like we are doing here at Algernon, everyone must test there drug first. That's why we are at the frontline, being acknowledged in news articles.
Morning read and DD!
For those who would like to know a little more about the solid science that STRONGLY supports the efficacy of our drug in treating lung disease, especially the advanced form of lung disease called "Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome" or ARDS caused by viral illness in the lungs (e.g. coronavirus)....
Below is an exerpt from the recently published paper in 2019 in mSystems journal which describes how the scientists found Ifenprodil as the big hit in decreasing mortality (aka death) and decreasing the ARDS caused by severe viral illness.
Here is a short list, broken down into lay terms so you can understand. If you don't, just let me know and I will explain further. But remember, it is these scientific results that are the reason we feel that Algernon has hit the jackpot and is sitting on a multi-billion dollar drug.
All of my key points here are directly related to the highlighted/bolded text below in the quoted which I took directly from the journal article. If you want a copy of the journal article, just send me your email.
Key points summarized by medchem:
1. Ifenprodil helps keeps infected cells alive
2. Ifenprodil has low side effects and is safe (low cytotoxicity)
3. Ifenprodil improves survival in the context of severe viral illness
4. Ifenprodil decreases (ameliorates) acute lung injury which leads to ARDS (which prevents death)
5. Ifenprodil decreased the lung edema (fluid) caused by the ARDS (aka it decreased the factor that is responsible for ARDS killing so many patients)
6. Ifenprodil deceased the number of white blood cells (neutrophils), natural killer cells, and t-cells (these are the parts of the immune system that attack the lungs with ARDS). Decreasing these decreases INFLAMMATION and gives the lungs a chance to heal.
7. Ifenprodil decreased the cytokine storm (it decreased ten of the most harmful cytokines, which are basically the cause for "inflammation"..)
8. Ifenprodil signficantly decreases the immune response to lung injury
9. NMDA is the receptor that Ifenprodil targets, and it blocks it. NMDA overstimulaiton can cause lung injury. Ifenprodil blocks that.
10. The authors findings indirectly suggest that this will also decrease inflammation from pulmonary fibrosis!
Nice post
The safety of the drug has been validated already
Pay attention to the details!
There are multiple news releases now that have given us hints of very important upcoming events!
We will likely here about the following:
#1: Study protocol, timeline for study, for both the Korean study, and the Australian study (two separate studies!) Our portfolio is diversifying by the moment. Algernon thinks the drug will be in the sick patients ASAP.
Nope. One simple fact alone - nobody knows about it. YET.
Oh wow good catch, it says "SPONSOR INITIATED"
I don't think anyone would sell now, we have a coronavirus trial (or two) coming in hot! If the FDA even mentions us, or we get CNN coverage, this will shoot up like our medical device company friends who got their mention today and rose 500%.
One thing is for sure. You can't put a price on human life. But the estimates regarding the number of individuals coronavirus will kill are mind blowing and Ifenprodil has now been found by the worlds fastest supercomputer (see my previous post or AMG's nice links which highlight Ifenprodil in the list from the US Department of Energy) to potentially decrease the infectivity of the virus and also it's been shown in animal models to decrease mortality by 40%, big pharma will be willing to pay billions, because the global market will be multi-billions.
We are going to be running a trial in South Korea, way before anybody in North America can get FDA approval. We are way ahead of the game. We actually have a CRO who's going to run the trial (see below) and Korean physicians who will be running the trial:
AND They are going to run a trial in AUSTRALIA!!!!! Capturing the global market!
HOT OFF THE PRESS
What boggles my mind, is that they only got a nod from FDA. We have more than that... we have a trial that will be starting with these patients. We are very undervalued.
Doesn't matter though, people will acquire shares and buckle down for the blast off over the coming weeks. Our South Korean trial is going to get started soon.
My pleasure.
I will keep digging. As I find scientific data I will share with all. This is free information, it just needs to be found and made public. The fact they have science on their side is important, because science doesn't care about short terms trends in share price, it has true value. We just need everyone to be able to see and understand the science in order to see the value.
If anyone has questions or doesn't understand terminology we are posting, feel free to ask for clarification. We are entering a period with this company where scientific testing and data will be what drives us forward. We should make sure everyone understands what's going on in lay terms.
They would need to review the results, and they are based in the West, so they probably haven't seen them yet because this was published last night. I imagine they will see them later today.
Front page of CNN: Ifenprodil identified by super computer as a drug (among others) that might decrease infectivity of coronavirus:
You can download the results for free I put the link below. This was highlighted in CNN yesterday, front page!
If you want me to explain these findings further just let me know.
Another fun tidbit of science that pertains to what I last posted... the reason people are advised not to take ibuprofen with coronavirus is because ibuprofen increases "ACE2" receptors which is used by coronavirus to get into the human cells and hurt us...
Ifenprodil was found in the US Department of Energy Oakridge drug screen (using the supercomputer) to actually stop this process! It blocks ACE2 in a way such that it prevents coronavirus from getting into the cells!
It's in the supplementary information (excel files). Go to the url and click download the whole package, in that are the excel files with the drug screen results. It's in there.
Huge Findings!
In lay terms: Ifenprodil has been found in a screen of repurposed drugs by the USA government as having potential to stop infectivity of coronavirus. You can download the results for free I put the link below. This is massive. This was highlighted in CNN today, front page!
If you want me to explain these findings further just let me know.
Our boys at Algernon may have found a miracle drug.
Some science:
A recent publication from Oakridge National Laboratory (USA Department of Energy), "Repurposing Therapeutics for COVID-19: Supercomputer-Based Docking to the SARS-CoV-2 Viral Spike Protein and Viral Spike Protein-Human ACE2 Interface". The authors performed computational modelling utilizing SUMMIT (the worlds fastest super computing system) and screened libraries of existing drugs to check for interaction between spike protein (Sars-Cov-2) and human ACE2 receptor which revealed that Ifenprodil may play a role in diminishing coronavirus infectivity.
As described in their abstract,
Hold tight
I stumbled across something absolutely huge... accidentally...
AMG - Send me your email privately as soon as possible.
To the rest of the board, hold tight. This might need to be sent privately to management before pubic disclosure.
Algernon's drug pipeline is growing. We are targeting multiple different disease processes. If ifenprodil outperforms the best in class medication currently used for chronic cough in pulmonary fibrosis, that will trigger a bidding war. Big pharma will be lined up at the door and the market cap of this company could be worth billions no problem. That's because these guys would be walking into multi-millions, if not billions in sales. How could you not want to acquire shares in this stock flying under the radar, given that they've already shown in their animal models it does outperform the best drug on the market. Like they said in the Biopub release, after you show that it works, most drugs go on to die in the safety profile category. We don't have to worry about that either! It's been used in humans before safely! And that's just chronic cough... If ifenprodil decrease acute lung injury secondary to acute respiratory distress syndrome caused by coronavirus in south korean patients (where it's a legal drug), again, you will have multi-billions being offered by big pharma and instantly we could see share price in the hundreds of dollars range.
I mean I don't know about you guys... but that's why I am here... not for a couple thousand bucks... but for the big show.
When the global pharma community gets wind of the face that this small company is doing a trial with a safe repurposed drug, in a country where the drug is already legal, on a type of illness in which it's already got demonstrated effect, tested with physicians who have agreed to use it, among a period of high global need, you will see volume spike immensely.
The sheer magnitude of this news is clearly not understood by the average investors, as demonstrated by the volume and share price.
Now it makes sense why they posted all the international translated news. South Korea to be the hotspot for the next big trial for coronavirus run by NovoTech and Algernon.
No problem. There is a huge global need for this, if it works, big pharma will likely step in for licensing or buy out.
I am actually blown away, these guys managed to file patents and secure a safe drug, that happens to decrease acute lung injury from deadly viral illness, then there happens to be a coronavirus outbreak, and they have a CRO that is going to run a trial, and they have physicians who are willing to use the treatment...
stars aligned or what
*AMG's point about having the company who's running the trial, also having investment in the company, means they have skin in the game*
This is amazing news
Phase 2 trial of ifenprodil for coronavirus
Do you guys understand the magnitude of this post...
It would be nearly impossible to run a trial in North America because the drug isn't legal here yet, so they have got a world-class CRO on board to run the trial in Asia and the South Korean physicians have agreed to it. This is MONUMENTAL!
Anyone who needs help understanding this please just ask.
And in my last post AMG, I did mean to say Phase 2.
People on this board who do not have a scientific or medicinal chemistry background - please understand that getting North American FDA or Bill Gates involved is wishful thinking and I respect Algernon for reaching out to them. This news today, however, is tangible. Ground breaking. World class organization and willing physicians to test this drug where it is legal. Saves MANY HOOPS to jump through.
Phase 3 trials here we come
Phase 3 trials for algernon
Sometimes these things can be helpful, but it's of little relevance with respect to Algernon. These types of articles don't capture the value of the company accurately. The value (which is not noted in that article) is in the patents they have which protect the valuable asset (the drug which they have in hand and are scaling up).
Furthermore, these guys specifically did the BioPub releases to demonstrate the concept that they are skipping hundreds of millions of dollars worth of research costs by re purposing a safe drug with previous use in humans.
From a sheer business perspective, they are done diluting (they've said it themselves in BioPub articles) and they have cash in hand, and the only insider trading recently is BUYING by our CEO and Kal.
All good stuff IMO
Absolutely, I believe they have done their DD. This study was JUST published. HOT off the press. Even more recent then the acute lung injury paper they found.
Cognitive effects of Ifenprodil
Recently published study this month showing that there are positive psychologic effects of Ifenprodil in combination with modulation (decrease) in pro-inflammatory (bad) cytokines (markers of inflammation). My take from this is that patients who are treated with chronic cough might also have increased mood and "feel better" overall, in addition to objectively coughing less. They would likely also cough less because of the modulation of pro-inflammatory effects: here that is observed by a decrease in TNF-alpha, a potent inflammatory marker (it also decreased IL-1B and IL-6 inflammatory markers).
Who knows, maybe we should be doing a trial of this medication for depression also. Or perhaps a better use of this data would be to recognize that capturing mood data as a secondary outcome measure in their study for patients with chronic cough would be useful... The future is bright! The cool part about using repurposed drugs... they have proven safety.
*Note, this is an asian study, nobody is studying this like us in north america*
May the force be with you
I wouldn't waste time over there even if I was allowed... garbage.
Thanks for the shout out over there, although I must say, I never go to the board, it's a waste of time. Non-sense over there lol.
BioWorld Feature
Our boys at Algernon getting mentioned alongside some of the biggest names like Abbvie!
Note the connection with Bill Gates here.
We have a strong chance of securing funding.
Also look at the note about Bill Gates funding repurposed drugs!
Hooray!
Highlighted below for ease on your eyes. Link above.
Much love and have a green beer please.

nice chart pattern
Good luck trying to predict what is going to happen with this stock.
Focus on the fact that they are very undervalued, moving forward into Phase 2 studies, while other companies with huge market cap have not reached Phase 2...
Thoughts:
(a) market is reaching a trough and people are loading up on their algernon
(b) maybe somebody knows something ... not making an accusations, but news could be coming
They didn't say no. They probably haven't responded yet because of the massive # of submissions they got at the same time.
They do have to respond within 30 days though so we will hear soon.
This is a very good point, unfortunately day traders fail to recognize this. They will buy into the hype of the "vaccine" but don't even recognize it's phase 1. Here we are heading into phase 2, well funded, but they wouldn't see that.
