GERN biotechs have been strong recently, so you would think good news would send her much higher.
Wade re: "This market almost impossible to make out in..."
You've said 'This market is impossible to make out in or impossible to understand, or something with the market being impossible' in posts every single year since 2016 with the possible exception of '22 (I just took a quick look). Thats nine years of impossible markets. And you've done well in those markets, with very large returns over the past nine years. So either you do great in impossible markets, or you have a misunderstanding of what impossible means.
best.
ELTK seconding eco's post about that amazingly timed rebuy!!!
VIRC great point LF, thanx. It does seem possible that a larger than normal amount of ESSER funds are spent through September to get rid of what's left.
You still liking CNRD?
also, looks like my Tide squad grabbed your coach. Btw, I am not a newbie Tide fan, basically since the early 70's.. football and basketball.
VIRC kinda sorta nice comment by the CEO in their recent announcement of their regular divvy:
"....The Company is currently in the closing process for its fiscal year ended January 31, 2024. After reviewing preliminary results for the year, Virco’s Board of Directors declared the dividend based on the Company’s expected continued strong performance...."
at least it 'sounds' like the coming quarter(s) won't be real bad.
you are fantastic at picking great risk rewards on these...
VLCN hits over three in pre market this morning... great pick Larry!!
VLCN hits 1.77 (so far) afterhours.
CBBI anyone else see this pr this morning (below) regarding the CBB Bancorp buyout... it was in the think or swim CBBI news feed, so for just a smidge of time I was real happy with a near $40 buyout. Couldn't find a pr issued by CBBI, and when I reread the release, I knew something was amiss when it said the 'aggegate deal value is $27 million'. And then I realized that a different (private) CBB Bancorp was being bought out. ........... sigh.
Southern States Bancshares (NASDAQ:SSBK) and CBB Bancorp announced the signing of a definitive merger agreement under which Southern States would acquire CBB Bancorp.
Under deal, CBB Bancorp shareholders have the right to elect to receive either 1.550 shares of Southern States common stock or $45.63 in cash for each share of CBB Bancorp common stock they hold. Based on Southern States’ stock price of $24.24 as of February 27, 2024, the implied value per share is $38.38 and aggregate deal value is $27M.
HRTG I'm on semi-vacation in FL so no, I didn't see that. There was an 8k issued on 12/19 detailing some sorta stock purchase agreement involving Hyer.. I don't feel like looking at it now but it is here.. another 18 days till earnings; hopefully she runs up into it.
https://www.sec.gov/ixviewer/ix.html?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/1598665/000119312523298652/d655913d8k.htm
HRTG this seems like positive general news for insurer's with a large FL base from UVE's just issued report:
“Now that we’re past the one year anniversary date of the 2022 special legislative session and all new and renewal policies are subject to the new legislation, the impact of the reforms is becoming clearer - claims trends across the board are improving, including reductions in total claims, represented claims, assigned claims and daily claims"
AAOI that looks like a real ugly arse report.
BELFB thanx michael. I hope its not, but it does sound a bit like the pattern of RELL... although the RELL cycle occurred earlier and BELFB's quarters were much stronger. RELL hit its $25 high on huge ordering which couldnt be fulfilled b/c of supply chain issues plus strong demand, then had a mediocre quarter or maybe two sending it down to $15 or so, and than kept on pushing out the expected rebound..... and know in the eights. I actually have been a buyer at these levels, although I hope to see things trend higher for them starting two quarters from now.
BELFB I didn't even get to the guidance when I looked at the earnings pr last night. I did just skim through the conf call and saw it there. Looks like it will be a tough first half for them. They are expecting a better second half, but we'll see.
ELTK just to note, I think they will take a bit of a financial hit to earnings since the Dollar-NIS has turned pretty sharply the other way (dollar weaker now), during the fourth quarter the Dollar fell (and the NIS rose) 5.5%.
BELFB decent, I mean I guess they made over $1.25 if you ex out the restructure charge........... but I am happy I sold my last at at $73 and $74, its been a great ride
CRNT in terms of '24 guidance from the CC, on non-op expenses, they did say that they expect interest expense to drop a bit ... maybe a total of $8 mi for the year; and they also expect tax rate to drop a smidge.
CSPI/CXDO Congrats 2morrow!
Hweb, re FORD do you know if they are going forward with a reverse split? You mentioned that as a negative I think back in December, and its one of the reasons why I just took quick profits on it a short while ago.
PLCE not only SMCI and tech... PLCE up $14.71 to $29+ (halted) It hit $8.30 just one week ago on a Bloomberg article that it was supposedly searching for near term financing. Then, a couple of days ago some Middle Eastern based fund bought a bunch of it, and now they seem to have given PLCE a financing deal. Has a big short interest. I dunno, but it kinda feels like the Bloomberg article was planted so the Fund could get in on the super cheap. But maybe thats just the Wade in me talking...
SIF I mean even Natuzzi, the large manufacturer of furniture, moved most of their plants out of Italy b/c of the crazy union cost structure. And Natuzzi had to battle for years to get out b/c the government labelled them as some sort of Icon of Italian manufacturing. And they did that years ago at this point. They kept their European presence but moved it to Romania.
SIF I suppose they had added expenses due to the 'new product development activities.' And backlog growth is impressive. But these f'ers have to turn that backlog into some BIG revenue quarters to drive up GM's, and also focus on expense curtailment. They own the big Cleveland facility, and the smaller 90,000 sf facility in Italy. Do they really have to own that facility in Italy?... maybe a sale leaseback to generate cash. But really, why are they in Italy anyways? I understand they may have European customers to serve, but Italy sounds like a very expensive place for manufacturing... I know of several players who have left Italy (and moved to Eastern Europe) to manufacture elsewhere to cut costs.
Thanks Murray for the comments. Thats actually my problem... musically anyways, although it helped in certain sports. I have a very dominant right hand I think stronger than most, but my left is far weaker. So when I tried out drumming.. I could do many things pretty easily, but other things were uber difficult.
... and, a tip 'O' the Hat to Kool Kats who could pound those tubs left or right.... Ole Drummerman and Murray...
Gil, lmao! with you, not at you.
Oscar Peterson on the Dick Cavett show '79..... hey Murray. Thought you and other Jazz Piano lovers might find this interesting...anyway, I did. I saw this recently on Rick Beato's youtube channel, and he thinks its 'the greatest music interview ever', applauding the incredibly insightful questions by non-musician Dick Cavett, which help Oscar Peterson give wonderfully articulate but also graspable explanations to the non-professional audience. A few minutes of Oscar playing a piece of his choice, followed by a conversation.. but the piece de resistance imho starts at 12:35 when they both sit down at the piano, and Oscar Peterson answers Cavett's questions both orally and through examples on the piano. That last part is simply Wonderful... a must watch!!!!!!!! (ok, its possible I got into this much more than others might for whatever reason).
jtomm, sounds like you may be in the market for one of these:
ESP catching perhaps a delayed earnings move.
CTHR did you listen to or read the conf call transcript? Nothing really to note. But one funny thing. An annoyed investor asked them about their cash levels, which have come down from what had been very high levels. The CEO responded that its not so big a concern b/c if we need more cash we can just go into our finished jewelry inventory, and gold is like 60% of that inventory value, and just disassemble the jewelry and melt down the gold to sell.
AYSI got it, all in my wifey's account.
CSPI listening to the CC.. I always thought the CEO speech was a little funny, like a Southy Boston mixed with the Bronx accent. Now you got this new CFO. This guy has trouble reading aloud.
DTSS proof positive that the entire US stock markets are trading wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy below fair value.
MITQ re cash... yup, strong balance sheet and low share count certainly is a big plus.
MITQ earnings out. Q2 supposed to be lighter, but still. I know back half is what's important, but I don't get that warm fuzzy feeling inside from the pr. But is possible I was expecting too much.
AYSI Great News! do you have some placeholder/cusip in your account? I cant even remember which account I owned it in.
NTWK ... I was going to post to you re their report b/c I thought you mentioned them before, but didn't see your post. I am also long NTWK
'With a $1.83 trillion market cap, Nvidia just passed Amazon to become the 4th largest US company.'
TRT in with a better quarter than I was expecting. And they sound more optimistic going forward.
Bob Dylan w/Dicky Betts on Guitar - Ramblin' Man, live, Dylan lead vocals along with Betts, Tampa '95 ... I think they may be trading lead guitar parts here (Betts has said they did that at times), and Dylan said a few times that Dicky Betts was his fave guitarist, and one of the VERY few musicians outside his touring band that he'd would welcome onstage while touring (in FL where Betts lived). Ok, I LUV this, but that's just me. Great vocals by Bob imho, and the guitar play is to die for...
'Thumbs Up'
abh hate to bug you again, but I recall you were in PERI . Seems like its value priced now. Any thoughts on that one?
