Biodel Reports New Findings from Key Programs at Diabetes Technology Meeting

Scientists from Biodel Inc. (Nasdaq: BIOD) reported new findings from the company's Linjeta™, insulin glargine, "smart" basal insulin and stabilized glucagon development programs in poster presentations yesterday and today at the Tenth Annual Diabetes Technology Meeting in Bethesda, MD.
Dr. Frank Flacke presented results of a Phase 1 single-center, double-blind, randomized crossover trial in 13 subjects with type 1 diabetes who received a once-daily injection of Linjeta™ or one of two modified formulations of Linjeta™, each on a separate day ("Characterization of Pharmacokinetics and Toleration of Three Variant Formulations of Linjeta™"). The purpose of the study was to compare the pharmacokinetic characteristics and toleration of Linjeta™ to the two modified formulations. The study found that the modified formulations were associated with improved toleration profiles and lower maximal insulin concentrations compared to Linjeta. Modified formulation BIOD-102 was associated with a similar rate of absorption as Linjeta.
Dr. Roderike Pohl reported results of in vitro and preclinical testing of a modified form of insulin glargine in diabetic miniature swine to assess its duration of activity and pharmacokinetic profile compared to insulin glargine ("A New Formulation of Insulin Glargine with an Extended Release Profile"). The study found that certain excipients, when combined with insulin glargine, reduced the drug's solubility and could prolong its duration of action to greater than 24 hours compared to an average 18.5 hours for insulin glargine.
Nandini Kashyap described results of in vitro and in vivo studies in diabetic swine which showed that a "smart" basal insulin formulation can release insulin in response to changing glucose concentrations ("Smart Basal Insulin Formulation That Releases Insulin in Response to Changing Blood Glucose Concentrations"). This suggests that a modified form of basal insulin can be regulated based on insulin need, which would be expected to result in fewer hyper- and hypoglycemic excursions
.
Dr. Solomon Steiner announced progress in the development of a stable form of glucagon for potential use in automated bihormonal pumps that deliver insulin and glucagon ("A Stabilized Glucagon Formulation For Bihormonal Pump Use"). Although generally unstable, glucagon can be used to prevent the hypoglycemia which occurs as a result of low or falling glucose concentration when too much insulin is administered. Biodel's glucagon was found to be chemically and physically stable beyond seven days and physiologically active after three days of exposure in diabetic miniature swine, suggesting its utility for use in a bihormonal pump.
These poster presentations are available on the company's website, www.biodel.com.
Dr. Steiner, Biodel's chief scientific officer, commented: "These presentations highlight the many applications of our drug delivery technology as well as the potential of our product candidates to improve the treatment and quality of life of people with diabetes. The new formulations of Linjeta™, insulin glargine, 'smart' basal insulin and stabilized glucagon described in these abstracts appear to improve the tolerability, pharmacokinetic activity, and in some instances stability, of the unmodified forms of these compounds. We look forward to validating our findings by advancing our product candidates through clinical testing."
The Diabetes Technology Meeting focuses on the latest technological advances for people with diabetes. Its purpose is to bring together technology developers and users to facilitate the creation of new and cost-effective tools – including an artificial pancreas – to help people with diabetes. This year's meeting includes sessions on technologies for metabolic monitoring, biomarkers for early diagnosis of diabetes, the performance of closed-loop artificial pancreas systems and alternative delivery routes for insulin.

Hope it goes to $.05, then I will load up
Hope it goes to $.05, then I will load up
I'm with you, how can a company not care about investors and publish finanials
We go pink today, see what it does the stock price, hope it drops back to $.07 to rebuy, but I don't think it will have an effect
I don't think Tom gets it, investors need financials, we need to see, like you said what a shipment of 70 medical training systems will do to the btm line. Tweeting and Blogging won't do it for me, that is why I sold my 80,000 shares on Friday. He says he will, "I'll take your advice into account", to he should have already been working on it. Well I hope it goes to $.05 or lower and then I might buy back my shares.
Novint is one step from Grey Market

NVNT is going PINK, CEO will not file 10K, to expensive
Going Pink All can say I hope it drops back to $.06 and I will buy back my shares

Hey val77, I can't really say much more on that subject than I've said. I guess one thing I can add is that if a company goes to the pinks, it can be for a pretty negative reason (no business and ran out of money) or it can be for a neutral or even positive reason (because there is a real business and the company is working towards profitability). My point is that one cannot read too much into it one way or the other.
Adelevet that was me selling, I sold my 80,000 shares, I just don't like the company going to the Pinks. If it does, I hope the price drops back to .06 and I will buy my shares back. I might be wrong and sold to early, but I made a few thousand and didn't loose any money. I still think they have a good product, I just don't like the way the company is runned, with Tweets and Blogs, I might be old fanshion, but you will not get any serious investors without any financials.

Novint Status
Hey Everyone,
I thought I would write a blog entry to give a high-level, general status update on Novint.
Overall, things are going well. We have been pushing ahead on both sides of our business - the games side of the business (using the Falcon to play video games), and the professional side of the business (our Advanced Products Group, or APG, works on applications outside of games such as military uses of the technology, medical training and visualization, oil/gas visualization, etc).
On the games side of the business, we recently released F-Gen Beta 3 and our first two F-Gen supported games, Left 4 Dead 2 and the original Half-Life. This is a significant milestone for the games side of the business - we have focused most of our development the past year on F-Gen so that we can start to get games out more quickly, and with the first games out, we are well positioned to begin to get a number of additional games out. The first two games utilize F-Gen Tools, which are what provide the force events for the Falcon. We'll need to continue to improve the Tools and add new ones, but releasing the first implementations of F-Gen Tools is a big milestone.
On the APG side of the business, it is going well. We've continued to bring in new contracts and successfully complete ones we already had. There is good potential to continue to grow our professional applications of the technology in the medical fields, military applications, oil/gas applications, etc. I'm optimistic about the growth of the APG in general.
All of that said, the economy is still relatively tough, and about a year ago, we went through a particularly rough patch. We had to downsize the company significantly at that time, and needed to dramatically cut expenses. We have generally gotten back on our feet and I think we are poised to grow, but there are still many challenges in front of us, as a high tech, early stage company. Accounting and auditing fees as a public company on the OTC:BB are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, as an example. I have no doubt that the technological field we are in will be extremely significant, and I am of course still optimistic that it will be us that will bring computer touch on a large scale to computing, but we have had to take a mentality where we have eliminated all expenses that are not absolutely critical. I think this is a good thing to do. Often in the case where you hunker down and focus on working towards growing the company to a break even point, you emerge from the efforts in a much stronger place than you started, and I think that will be true of us as well.
thanks,
Tom Anderson (tomnovint)

Hmm, I guess what you were saying is that you won't be reporting, and are planning to leave the OTCBB? Is that what it is then?

Unfortunately, although I often would like to talk more about Novint's public status and our stock, the lawyers don't like me doing so, so I constrain my discussions to the business development. I often wish I could say more about our advanced projects (pro) applications as well, but often I'm constrained there contractually. I will say that the clear goal for Novint now is to reach profitability, and therefore we are cutting all expenses that are not critical towards that end. thx, tomnovint

You also have to spent money to make money, he needs to communicate more with investors through offical PRs, not tweets and blogs, I know it saves money, but doesn't give much credibilty to the company, I'm hoping for a little pop so that I can dump my shares
Tweets and Blogs don't say much about a company, I think will also take my profits
If we don't see any finacials soon, we will be going to the pinks, he still won't answer any tweets about dropping the E or if they are working on finacials, hope we see financials soon, don't want to go to the pinks
