Systematically driving (or hammering) the price at or below a desired strike price before tomorrows expiration to avoid exercising.
The chart is beginning to look like former CEO Howard Goldberg’s vision of a hockey stick.
It is certainly great to see IDCC hitting on all cylinders with their business model. It is also great to see analysts recognizing this accomplishment and coming forward with their opinions. That being said it should also be noted that a word of caution should also be in the mix.
I’ve been a shareholder since 1986 and have just about seen it all in regards to Interdigital. Fluffy pieces such as this are great and encourage a great deal of optimism. They also plant the seeds of disappointment. The investment world lives in a earnings miss or exceed environment. Stock price movement percentage wise is usually worse on the miss side than the exceed side. It’s human nature that panic is more intense than euphoria. The short players and long players are both licking their chops when it comes to fluff pieces of advice whether warranted or unwarranted . Caution becomes the key word.
Lenovo boasted to the entire world about being the “overall winner” after the first trial in the UK. Almost to the point of being malicious. Interdigital needs to sit tight with no negotiating and wait for a favorable decision. If one does indeed come down in their favor then be tactful and do the same while putting other infringers on notice. All IMO.
A question for the board techies. Is Interdigital’s video tech imbedded in Apple’s new Vision Pro reality headset due to debut soon?? I would find it hard to believe if it is not. TIA
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2024 Loop!
When Interdigital lays out its case you’re vision may be correct. To many loose ends from that last judgement.
I’ve been here since 1985 and the old Rauscher-Pierce days. In all likelihood I’ll be included in those 10 retail investors if I’m still alive.
Thanks for that clarification Vegas. A lot of shares changing hands.
It is interesting that the company used two priced Dutch auctions to acquire shares. Could it be the company didn’t achieve the success in getting the share buyback they wanted? Just pure speculation, but could the company get shares through an option play to satisfy what appeared to be an urgent share acquisition? I’ve been here a long time (30 plus years) and have accumulated a substantial holding for being just an individual investor. I’ve wrote covered calls on a fraction of that holding many times. Sometimes called, and other times not called. The overall market is hot, but for IDCC it just seems out of the norm. A lot of folks are going to be out of their shares at many different strike prices. I’ll loose a few at 75, but knew that going in. Different strategies going forward. IDCC has been good to me, and they’re on a roll so I’m looking forward to even better returns. I guess I’m just wondering if the company could use the option market to augment the share buyback, or even if it’s legal. All very interesting.
I don’t know where I read this sometime ago , but I put it in my notes. IDCC was to have a 10 day jury trial commencing March 6, 2023. I have no idea if that court date was moved like they normally are, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
IMO...the company IDCC has successfully flushed out B of A for what they really are regarding “coverage” of the company. And for some time I might add. There is an alternative motive here. Again all IMO. Not hard to figure why some companies elect to go private.
I personally believe this matter with Lenovo would have been settled had it not been for the Motorola Mobility component and the 1995 court fiasco involving the 089 patent. IMHO.
Loop, if you have put that in the form of a motion, I will gladly provide a second to that motion.

Way out in left field here. Maybe Qualcomm is now having to use some of our technology and the payment is from them. We have plenty ex Qualcomm people at Interdigital.
What year did the company let you go?
Tomcat....with what I would consider a reasonably aggressive share buyback over a span of the last several quarters, I would expect a decent premium over current prices, but nothing close to its all time high. I’ve been with this company for over three decades and I’m just as puzzled as ever. There are things that just don’t seem to add up. I think the time has come for the company to pull the trigger and shed this “Rodney Dangerfield” syndrome that plagues them. All IMHO.
Interdigital may well be positioning the company to go private IMO.
Many years ago Interdigital had a poison pill provision. Makes one wonder if these events are leading to a reinstatement.
Yeah, ??
Valid point!
Interesting turn of events. Interdigital bringing on board a man who has worked at two companies that have caused the company a lot of grief for a lot of years. Nokia and Motorola Mobility.
Just recently Apple TV won Academy Awards for a streaming service movie “CODA”. The question I have is IDCC with its video technology somehow play a part in Apple’s success with this?
Thanks olddog...obviously a myth circulated about Interdigital having a small but “quality” piece of 5G technology.
dndodd... is this report to mean so much for IDCC’s few quality patents in the 5G space that has been talked about by some previously?
Z. That may or may not be the case, and I’m almost sure the large institution holders of IDCC stock (and they own a lot) would be comfortable with that scenario.
IMO Lenovo has a greater interest in how much infringement Interdigital has forgiven than they are in establishing a rate used to calculate royalties.
This UK proceeding will get attention from around the globe. The time frame for this cluster between the parties to bring this thing to closure has been exhausted. Disregard for intellectual property from holdouts like Lenovo/Motorola needs to be brought to front and center and exposed. IMO it will go the distance as it should. Let’s hope IDCC gets what they are rightfully due for their contributions to technology that made others so successful.
BTW...Lenovo needs to be taken to the woodshed. Again IMO.
IMO.. I’m not going to bank on a dividend increase, but one is certainly warranted.
“Only two analysts ask questions “. Maybe the others and those they represent and normally there all went short a while back.
This is great news for IDCC. The Lenovo/Motorola situation is going to be a tougher nut to crack IMO. To many remnants of the Interdigital/Motorola/Longibardi debacle of 1994/96 still hanging around. This will be a big one if ever resolved.
Has IDCC trading been halted?
I totally agree Sons
What are the chances for damages awarded to IDCC at the January 2022 FRAND trial? We are talking 10 plus years of negotiations that went nowhere along with a ton of legal expenses.
From a consumer electronics stand point, I wonder if IDCC strength today has anything to do with Amazon and their purchase of Hollywood’s MGM?
Glad they’re not puts!
The CEO change may have prompted the 10 million charge for patent portfolio management. Coming from Qcom he should know what’s what . IMHO
I hope this new change at the top at IDCC is not a precursor of something that may have gone south in the UK legal proceedings.
