Let the games begin !:):)
Besides AMD is using TSMC.......and I am quite sure they will make enough room for AMD's 7nm server;
You wish; apple wrote the check for 7nm; BTW you do business to make money, sticking it to someone is what called small talk.
So in the game of musical chairs only 2 chairs left; let us see who is
left to occupy the only seat.
GF licensed the Samsung 14NM LPP process after failing at developing their own
This exactly proves my point that Samsung 7nm is also in trouble. Only TSMC is left, they are 80% apple for capacity, rest of 20% between qcom, amd etc. Now I dont know if TSMC has shipped 7nm part or have a test chip, god only knows
In case you dont have yield info for so called 7nm at smsg , guess zip, and now you are building 3d casels
find my buy timing instincts are impeccable but
usually shoot myself in the foot on the sell side.
His wishful thinking is 10nm .. let us see
Going to be fun watching you watch events unfold
Yes the feeling is mutual
A reverse split maybe??
That will surely be for your beloved amd
Watching and waiting...,
With all due respect; you will just keep watching as Intel will climb back to 100s
Intel stock up more than 5% since assa sold; good riddence
Eassa now questioning Intel's business model.
No wonder he is not running a company(I hope). And as clueless as can be
....meanwhile the good guys will sample their 7nm EPYC server chip to customers later this year
......................................................how about that there AMD!
Except that they sample and through them into trash.
apple cyclone processor proved that process is not that important;
good die(s) per wafer matter. Intc at 14nm provably has 99.99% yield
with a good architecture; they will easily trounce amd.
BTW servers are not desktops ; intel sells the racks including cups/ssds/network back plane all in one.
you were touting ARM servers on semiaccurate; not fallback is amd;
it is not good to have such negative attitude :)
But after serving under Andy Grove, I see Krzanich as more of a liability than an asset.
Koog, Andy was a different kind of CEO (a founder ceo almost). There will different kind of passion.
But what i like about the current CEO, is he is trying to change the old guard and bring in fresh blood. Also some good acquisitions.
Altera is a good example. Azure AI runs on it. If Intel is successful
in 5G, Murphy would have done his job same with Raja and keller.
Lets us hope for the best.
good luck
.the rumors say 7nm at GF EPYC 2......16 core /32 thread 4MB/core ~210mm^2.... then 4 of these in an MCM yielding a 64core/128 thread MONSTER at ~ 220W ....sampling later this year to customers.
Last year AMD was supposed to take over Intel in PCs and servers; looking at revenues no effect; when AMD cannot sell; then intel is doing contra revenue.
BTW; Intel will definitely have a stunning response
Intel’s board needs to step up, or shortly they’ll be famous for taking Intel down. At this point, the world is watching.
The article is click bait: he seems to be clueless.
Koog: the stock is flying high; he lined up right talent; process will be fixed;
in any case a lot of pessimists and AMD proponents on INTC board. Interesting
So now we know their 7nm is intel's 10nm. :)
Yes, intel will regress to 32nm; will loose all process lead and give up all markshare to AMD. Happy now
Hi xetex,
You wont get any reply, unless you post something in favor or amd. The board is hijacked by hardcore amd fans or (feel intel did unethical things), and want intel to fail at any cost. Also want fabless model/arm proponents to succeed.
So just dont post, but read their rants(sometimes they are right, but most of the times they are not)
WHy split, it will be like BRK-A, 25k in 10 years
This is INTC board, if you are so passionate about AMD go on AMD board and discuss. Dont hijack this board. Because of you we are not able to discuss INTEL
Intel is doing a lot of exiting things. Can we start discussing about,
Nirvana, Mobileeye, optane, xpoint, Knights products and prospects in enterprise
This may all be the case but a fact is that Samsung now introduced its 10nm process that for sure is denser than Intel's 14nm. So, in fact, Intel lost its lead, once and for all.
So where did Intel start shipping 14nm and what is Samsung shipping 10nm. In your opinion 2017 == 2015

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR STACKING A PLURALITY OF CORES
Stephen Breezy's article is very interesting.
Does any one have any insights ? i.e., advantages/disadvantages, cost etc
primary reason for the Bernstein downgrade
Bernstein is a perma bear, he and James Covello of GS. He was recommending shorting intel since it was $22.
As for 100 + lane pcies; intel is probably aware of it and has counter measures.
No one sits ideal in the business; there is provably a constant competitive analysis
I see phones that people actually want to buy powered by Intel silicon
I sure hope you may be able to do it soon
Intel providing a mobile SoC? Or PC becoming a Smartphone alternative.
Hopefully a compelling mobile SOC as well as may be work with partners to come up with a PC in a pocket with mobile connecivity.
Hopefully we may have an answer for that situation as well
Microsoft surface phone with Intel Inside

Just what if the phone runs all desktop apps, has a android vm to run
android apps and replaces your laptop/desktop
And .. all day battery/No fan ofcourse
One phone to rule them all
As a customer, I'd buy the Qualcomm
I am a t-mobile guy for past 10+ years. I want to use my phone worldwide, and use local sim cards when possible.
So CDMA is not for me
Doesn't add up. There has to be more to this than meets the eye.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Guys come on,
First it was no way no how
now intel modems are inferior
It is a trial, apple will give up.
Why would apple build a premium product with inferior modem.
Why would apple take contra from intel (is apple so desperate for intel cash)
My guess is both modems are on par, may be Intel is little better. Also Apple does not have to pay CDMA royalty for GSM phones to qCOM
so you think intel paid $17B for altera to make chips for prototyping
Please read the second part of my original post where i talked about possible use of FPGAs intel wants to do.
Anyone buying options??
Borusa: I am a long term buy and hold guy. Hold and collect divs.
Dont know much about options.
excellent advice for the person who said: "FPGA's are precursor to actual chip"
Please educate yourself FPGA-based Prototyping Methodology Manual: Best Practices in Design-for-prototyping
From my understanding
you need to understand "more"
Muzohub; it would be wise for you to not open your mouth if you dont know what your are talking about or dont have the intellectual capacity to understand
Intel SoC FPGA Developers Forum
[Intel is talking about using SoC FPGAs in IoT. Is there any way FPGA technology can be trickled down to mobile SoCs creating a competitive advantage for Intel vs ARM...?]
From my understanding FPGA's are precursor to actual chip. So you can build a soc on fpga. i.e., have cpu/network/sensors etc in gate logic.
Now the question is FPGA's are traditionally expensive. We have to see if Intel managed to reduce the code of FPGA and how. Also IOT is a very broad term from consumer IOT to industrial IOT. I believe Intel will go towards Industrial IOT, as there is more money from total cost of ownership. They may sell IOT(s)/Private cloud as a package to a utility company as an example.
As for ARM vs. Intel, as long as the FPGA is very low power and runs instructions efficiently, FPGA wins. One other advantage of FPGA vs ARM is FPGAs can be updated on the field where as ARM chip has to be replaced
koog/ashraf give it a rest.
First ashraf posted how qcom modem as so great apple will not take 2nd rate modem. he has 5+ articles written; to justify himself. Now that the rumor is has been validated; now intel is giving it for free so no new revenue. SO why is apple with 800B market cap accept a cash offer for every 2nd rate modem.
Enough is enough, until benchmarks come out on power/transmit rates
then we can talk.
My suggestions for any one on the board is not to talk until '17-18 when 5g trials starts and winners start bubbling up. No money to be made in phones/tables/PCs only cloud/gaming laptops/and break out devices that offer real value to the customer.

Google Gets Apple to Jump Aboard Its Cloud Business (Though It May Not Last)
What it means is; apple is pissed of with amazon; as amazon is not selling apple products.
it is bit of posturing on both sides.
Ex. just because you are pissed of about your car or (any other thing)
does not mean you go out and build one yourself (how ever rich you are) unless you have an intent to sell what you make.
IBC: Intel has been around since almost 50+ years; it is not a one trick pony; it trys to constantly innovate itself
ex. memory to processors; network cards to wi-fi; now memory/hd to xpoint; granted you miss some i.e., lte; they had wi-max; if wi-max was default standard you will be singing a different song.
Intel is putting barbed wire motes around cloud/server business; granted someone will get it; but in the process, will suffer some pain as well
Intel: Taking Qualcomm Apple Biz at Zero Profit Means
First they ignore you
then they make laught at you
then they fight you

What's going to actually happen back in the real world is that iOS/Android will evolve to the point where most consumers will be able to dock/connect their devices to the necessary peripherals to get the (light/medium) productivity work that they want done.
I tend to disagree on this;windows will have a dockable phone; and will do what it takes to block ios & android into corporate; so far they were successful without having any phone but with 2in1.
You cannot write off ar/vr. PCs as we know it will morph into different forms
Death of the PC counter argument.
Premise: Tablets and phones are being used to consume data and produce emails and text messaging. (Light touch personal work or office work). PC is over kill for it. PCs are well built and we dont replace them until something breaks. This is the main reason for non replacement. Microsoft is supporting old OS; causing corporates to not refresh the PCs.
In corporate PCs are staples (desktop, laptop, tablet). Mostly desktop or tablet.
Most of the high paying jobs(docs, managers, engineers) need a PC at work and a laptop or (convertible in field) to do the work.
Tables/Phone will converge at 5-6 in form factor. If microsoft gets it right you can use the 5-6 in form factor to connect to display to get some light/medium work done. I believe Intel is well positioned to take advantage in this form factor (with Kaby lake/Ice lake) core M.
AR/VR will be a good avenue to build new PC form factor to re-ignite sales.
My Impressions of latest phones at MWC.
All the phones I saw are just incremental updates. Except LG which was a bit innovative. I would not buy any of the phones for $500, for incremental features. IDC predicted Peak Iphone mid of this/next year. The gave is pretty much over and race to bottom starts.
Intel is already selling pc's for $200. All they have to do is attach a cell modem. I believe kaby lake/ice lake will be the time they may be able to fit a core m into 5.5in form factor. May be microsoft will
do the surface phone with Core M and rest of the copy cats will follow.
