Chirp, chirp. This is the only type of PR that OWPC has put out for far too long. 10k in volume. The time for handshake photos and pie-in-the-sky dreaming is long gone here. Hard news is all that can get this company off the mat.
Max can provide some hotel tips!
Last thing I thought I'd see (or wanted to see) in the Brewers/Cards game: Darren Ruf in a Crew uniform.
Mets should pick up Diaz's brother from Cincy at the deadline. He's having a great season.
Buck going to last the season?
That massive 12k in volume drove it up! What do they say: volume before.......
A real question to answer is: if the OWPC stock price does tick up on some PR or prayer, what's your sell point? Lots of bag holders here. Me included. I can't imagine many people are in the black at this stage, Zeke included. So if this somehow pops to .15 a share, how much, if any, do you dump? And will the line-up of folks scrambling to cut their losses cut off any momentum the stock might have on its way up. Assuming it goes up.
It's going to take a HUUUUGE announcement to turn the price around, especially with the current market and weed sector stagnation.
How good is the Rays rotation? And Glasnow comes into play in the next couple of weeks.
Tampa has almost been competitive, but this is an amazing team with no real holes to fill. Love to see them in the World Series after mowing down the Tankees and Trashtros. Really love to see them lose in 7 to the Brewers!
Nice clean slate for a new GM to work with.
That's a fait accompli....unless the Mets make it to the world series. Sterns is lining up the pieces to build his NY empire even as he cashes his Brewer's "consultant" check every week.
Don't the Mets have a lot of bad contracts coming off the books after this season?
Would Buck be the first manager of the year to be fired before the all star break?
Actually I get that. What you don't get is that old, tired arms fail as a matter of course in MLB, with very few exceptions. Some call it "bad luck" and some call it an ostrich reaction. Results are the same.
With 2 hits against the Reds, the umpires are the least of the Mets worries.
Look at the bright side: the stage is being nicely set for Sterns to take the reins next season.
Carassco has been a tough luck case with flashes of brilliance his entire career. Hate to see him struggling.
As for Quintana, see comments about walk-year performance.
Either way, I get that those 2 can perhaps be slotted into the "bad luck" column. But Verlander and Max? Degrom and Rodon? That's hardly bad luck.
There's injuries and there's injuries. Woodruff going down? That's bad luck, part of the game that all teams endure. But, the likes of Verlander, Scherzer, Degrom, Rodon et al landing on the IL is no surprise. Actually, it would be a shock if any of those guys pitched a complete season. Or even a season with a controlled, lesser workload.
Here's what you get for all that money, either:
1. A memory of a player's former greatness.
2. A false hope that an older player could replicate their walk-year numbers.
And the problem is, with all that $$ going down the toilet, you can definitely expect your front office types to be less than aggressive in acquiring expensive players mid-season.
Another old, overpaid pitcher with a recent history of injury has to grab some bench. Go figger:

30/30 for sure!
Could be worse. You could be cheering for the NY team in the other league! The Braves are the only NL team to show their true colours to date, though the Dodgers have come on a bit over the past couple of weeks. Other than those 2, the NL is a dog's breakfast. Pittsburgh, Arizona? Maybe. But more likely a slide to .500 as the grind of 162 games exposes the lack of depth. Even my Brewers are fading into the no-offense team they've been for 5+ years. IMO, the Cards are still the favorites in that division, especially when they fire their manager.
You certainly don't need to win the division in MLB anymore to go deep in the playoffs, you just have to get there with a healthy roster. 5-7 games over .500 might be enough in the NL to get it done.
Lurking around .500 is good enough for now. It's not like you're playing yourself out of WC spot before the all start break. Like the Yanks, there's a lot of talent yet to click. And I'm sure Cohen has a couple of more checkbooks.
6 runs is a big lead to blow for a "champion caliber" team. Lots of season left, and plenty of players on that team who should be performing better. Pretty much all of them, actually. Problem is the rest of that division is capable of playing the entire season like they have so far. If Baltimore signs a pitcher or 2, watch out!
I see. Must have nodded out with a minute left....but, but....I thought the B's were winning.
Was there a Buckner who plays for the Bruins?
Best teams in MLB this season facing off early, with the Pirates visiting Tampa for 3 games!
Judge is going to be an enigma. He has a history of injury. He also nailed the perfect walk season into what every player dreams of: a team that has to have you and has to overpay. Great to see him buckle baby Steinbrenner's checkpoint.
He's a class act. Hope he's back asap. Til then, enjoy the cellar!
But hey, Volpes bat is coming around. Almost .220 now.
Wow. Yanks and Red Sox now sharing a bunk in the AL East standings. Who'd have thunk it....
There's a very thin space between a decent season and a total washout, which is where the Yankees are living right now. It's pretty hard to disagree with your scathing assessment of Cashman; to have that size of a budget and to be this non-competitive has to fall on his shoulders. I mean it's one thing if your superstars like Judge are struggling, but with Calhoun and Cordero, you know what you're getting. Expecting them to suddenly change their spots and become consistently productive contributors is flat out weird.
I had no trouble watching Benintendi walk. What the White Sox are paying him is excessive IMO, even though at this point, his contract isn't a total bust, but the current parade of jurrassic Yankee hacks- Hicks, Donaldson, IKF, Cordero, Calhoun- that's an indication of a deliberate system of roster-building that makes the rest of the NL East extremely happy, (and has for years).
Very few GM's have the luxury of doing so little with so much and hanging on to their jobs. As the song goes, "nice work if you can get it."
Anytime Hicks goes 1 for 3, that's a game you gotta win.
Did you actually put Gallo's stats in the same post as Judge? Just come straight out with it: you're a closet Red Sox fan!
He was a rookie BEAST in Oakland. Pitched great in the playoffs for the A's. In New York, the old narrative "not cut out for the pressure of playing for the Yankees" was quickly slapped on him. SSKILLZ referenced the real deal in his previous post.
Gray was fantastic before he came to NY. That's why the Yankees got him. Hard to say why his effectiveness dropped so much in NY.
He's not the first player to flail in pinstripes and he won't be the last.
Something about those ex-yanks playing for the Twins. Great to see Sonny and Joey checkin' in tonight.
Last year at this time the Yanks were killing it. The only question was how many more games would they win beyond the Mariners 116. It's a long season- way too early to get too high or low. Cole has been the best pitcher in baseball. And as for the hitting.....um, uh, well, you got your wish with Volpe playing every day and Hicks and Donaldson not playing at all.
It took a former Mets top prospect years of bouncing between MLB and the minors, and a change of scenery, but Jarred Kelenic is starting to look like the real deal in Seattle.
Alvarez needs to play every day. For at least 3 months. And he needs to know that.
I think when Vladdy said "dead" he was referring to the Yankees line up.
Mets looking pretty good to me. When you have 3 hitters (or more) in a line up connecting, that's enough to chew through the mediocre trams in baseball. Alonso, McNeil and Nimmo show up every night. When Lindor and Marte find their groove, the line up will be more than enough to carry the Mets into the playoffs IMO. This will put you in about the same place you were at the end of last season: looking for a couple of pitchers who can peform in October. Hopefully, 2023 works out bettere than 2022 in this area (unless of course, you're playing the Brewers!)
When it comes to what we may hear, I'm waiting for the basics: the processing machinary is installed. Production is running at a level of (insert ANYTHING here).
I'm finding the idea of of "something big" or "major" or "significant" akin to winning the lottery with this company. Enough time has passed to have PR'ed an event besides "we hired a PR outfit", and that's putting it mildly.
I've been holding here for a long time; certainly long enough to ponder the opportunity costs of investing in this company. That said, I knew when I bought shares that patience would be essential. At least I got that part right!
Oops. Adds up to $216,666,666.00. Don't want to waste Cohen's money.
Bumgarner is indeed available. Cheap too. Snakes only paying $34 million to say good bye.
Mets not seeing much return yet on their $266,666,666.00 investment in Max and Justin.
Mets looked terrible aginst Kershaw...or maybe better to say that Kershaw made the Mets look bad. Canha had one of the worst throws from short left field that I've ever in a long time. And I gotta agree: as effective as Escobar was for Milwaukee, he looks lost in a Mets uniform. Time to let Baty play everyday.
Brewers have a history of starting the season strong, which may speak to the manager and coaching staff getting through to the team in spring training.
Tough day in Seattle, with Burnes calling for the trainer and leaving in the 6th. And with Woodruff on the IL, that's your frontline staters lost.
