Led Zeppelin Allows Song To Be Used In 'School Of Rock'
(9/8/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- Led Zeppelin has agreed to let one of their songs be used in the soundtrack for the upcoming film School Of Rock--but only because its star, Jack Black, asked personally. According to the studio, Black--who makes music with the comical rock act Tenacious D--stepped in after School Of Rock director Richard Linklater was unable to get permission to use "Immigrant Song." Black reportedly sent a humorous videotaped request for the song to the three surviving members of Led Zeppelin, who subsequently gave their approval. The School Of Rock soundtrack comes out September 30, while the film opens October 3.
Led Zeppelin is not the only classic band on the School Of Rock soundtrack. The 17-track set also features songs from the Who, the Doors, Cream, Stevie Nicks, the Ramones, and T. Rex. The album also features a rendition of AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock & Roll)" performed by Black and the film's child actors.
The soundtrack also resurrects a cover of the Stooges' "T.V. Eye" which was recorded for the 1998 Velvet Goldmine soundtrack by Wylde Rattz. The lineup of that all-star band included Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, Thurston Moore and Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth, Mudhoney's Mark Arm, Gumball's Don Fleming, and ex-Minutemen/fIREHOSE bassist Mike Watt, who's currently working with the Stooges.
School Of Rock stars Black as a musician who becomes a substitute school teacher after being kicked out of his group and winds up teaching his students how to be a band.
The full School Of Rock soundtrack includes: "School Of Rock," Jack Black and students; "Your Head, Your Mind, Your Brain..." (film dialogue excerpt); "Substitute," the Who; "Fight," No Vacancy; "Touch Me," the Doors; "I Pledge Allegiance To The Band..." (film dialogue excerpt); "Sunshine Of Your Love," Cream; "Immigrant Song," Led Zeppelin; "Set You Free," the Black Keys; "Edge Of Seventeen," Stevie Nicks; "Heal Me, I'm Heartsick," No Vacancy; "Growing On Me," the Darkness; "Ballroom Of Mars," T. Rex; "Those Who Can't Do..." (film dialogue excerpt); "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes To Bitburg)," the Ramones; "T.V. Eye," Wylde Rattz; and "It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock & Roll)," Jack Black and students.
Well you sure got my attention with that lead-in. That's too bad about Warren Zevon. A good lesson about NOT smoking. I need to give up my occasional Cuban Stogie. This is a story that should be told to school age kids. So many of them seem to be smoking these days. If they could only get it through their head, just how bad it is.

Has anyone read
Sleeping Like A Baby: Investing In Volatile Markets by John Hudelson ?
I have it but haven't read it. I tend to buy several books at a time and just haven't gotten around to this one. Just curious if any yea's or nay's about it. It's only 145 pages.
Sorry, Churak, but, there are no pictures in it. Only charts and graphs. <g>
Colt
A fascinating book that really gets into the minds of world class crooks is Kings of Cocaine by Guy Gugliotta and Jeff Leen. It is a true story all about the Medellin Drug Cartell and the murder, money and international corruption they were involved in. Kind of like having Saddham Hussein and Usama bin laden in our hemisphere.
Colt
Sara, I'm in the process of reading The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris.
A couple other excellent books about Teddy are The Lion's Pride Theodore Roosevelt and His Family In Peace and War by Edward J. Renehan, Jr.
and
The Rough Riders by Theodore Roosevelt (himself) with additional text by Richard Bak.

tc, when you find that perfect computer, please be sure and let me know. I want one of those. LOL
Colt
gotmilk,
I agree.......I think!
At the end you said this, "But back to our pc attacks, it seems like the inter-structure policy
like bridges and roads and sewer and power and water...
... don't fix until it totally collapses." On this I totally agree for sure. I saw something on TV a month or so ago about the Golden Gate Bridge and the upkeep that's required. Constant sanding, painting, changing rusty bolts, rewelding areas that show cracks or more than normal wear and stress, checking cables, etc.
It seems like it takes an act of Congress, a hurricane, or a tornado to get the simplest things fixed, like potholes. But, life must go on. LOL
Colt
Amen!
Yep, O'Neal was a Keeper. Too bad Portland traded him. He is definitely a force. I really wanted the Spurs to go after him, instead of Kidd. The Kidd didn't make any sense to me since we already had Tony Parker.
colt
I think she got divorced again. All lawyers are scary to me. Har!
Colt
M-M, you mean to tell me that your knees don't start shaking when Geraldo starts talking tough on TV ? LOL Me neither. He is a 5'6", 145 pound, big mouth.
Colt
M-M, you're correct, I'm not rich enough to hire him but, my banker is, Mr. Big Bucks Omni. LOL If I get charged with murder and find I need to hire Johnny Cochran, I'll just let Omni pay the bill. Pocket change for him. <ggg>
Colt
M-M and OneBgg...Re: Small guys lineup. They have always given the Spurs troubles. Don Nelson used to do that against us when he coached Golden State and the Mavs played us the toughest when Dirk got hurt and they went to a small lineup. Same with the Phoenix suns this past season...they gave everyone fits. Including the Spurs and Lakers.
Colt
M-M, my banker, Mr. Omnitrader, is putting the $million$ up so it won't be any sweat off my back. LOL Seeing Omni's computer setup makes me think he is working for Paul Allen or Bill Gates (ya know, $Billion$ in Stock Options and a $10 mil/yr salary). Either that or he is running Warren Buffet's, Berkshire Fund (sp?) LOL We need to start calling Omni, Big Bucks Omni.
Colt just having some fun.
Yep, OneBgg...either a big man or a team full of scorers like the Mavs have. I'd rather have the center. I can't believe that the Blazers didn't go after one of the many centers available, as other teams did. You guys don't need a Shaq...just someone who can take the pressure off of guys like Sheed so he can free himself up and hit all them 3's. He is like a young Horry when it comes the shooting 3's. When Sheed is on, the Blazers rarely lose.

From the iHub - NFL board...
These things are damn near, right on the mark. LOL

ROFLMAO, Derf. I'm going to post this over on the NCAA board. Surprising just how close each of those are to the truth. LOL
Colt
Yep, Derf. I would like to see Skip and Larry Allen, run a mile, have a blocking contest and then a ribs eating contest. You know, a two out of three thingy.
However, if Skip insists on a running contest, then why doesn't he go after an Olympic Miler! LOL I think Skip has rocks for brains.
Colt
yayaa, Buffalo would be a good choice, especially after yesterday! LOL
Colt
Nice Logo Tag, NLionGuy. That should be worth a few extra wins. Ha! Don't we wish! LOL
Colt
Oh yeah, ol' Colt is one powerful, soothsayer. I can move mountains, change the direction of mighty rivers, bend steel with my bare hands ... so I'm sure I can put the whammy in the form of the Kiss of Death, on a Top Ten ranked school. <ggg> Believe me, if I could do that to Michigan, I'd only do it if we were playing each other for the National Championship. Then you'd see a real whammy! :>)
Colt
Yep, Ksquared. The small schools should go for more donations from their big buck boosters. For the life of me, I can't see what getting beat by 50 points does for the moral of the student body. All in the name of a few bucks? And what does it do for the big schools? Nothing if one is like we are...don't like seeing a perceived bully, pushing the little kid around. And it sure doesn't help the ranked team when they play one of the other powerhouses. I'd much prefer to see Texas play schools like Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Miami during the regular season than see us beat up on some little New Mexico team just to try and move up in the rankings or for what ever reason.
Probably like Michigan vs. Michigan State, where one can be #1 and the other is the worst team in the nation...because of the rivalry, the game is almost always close. Also, upsets are almost the norm. But, thanks for the good wishes.
Colt
LOL, Ksquared...do I know you, or what! <g> About the handy man...they are very handy to have around. Some advice...Don't get some young, good looking, stud...you may not get anything done around there. LOL Boy, I'm a bad boy!
Colt
Good evening, Ksquared...
I plan on watching a couple or more of the episodes tonight. What a life...live out on the range playing real life cowboy (cowpoke actually) and come in for some grub and spend the evening watching a make believe cowboy (Good guy in White Hat) out on the range. LOL Does this mean I need a life!!! HAR!
If you ever see a Roy Rogers marathon about to come up, let me know. I've seen a few but, would like to see the whole series.
Wasn't Peter Graves, Matt Dillon (James Arness in real life) of Gunsmoke's brother? I think Peter died several years back. As a kid, I loved to watch Mission Impossible. What the heck am I talking about, I'm still a kid @ heart. :>)
Colt
I just noticed yours was up on the gallery. Nice photo...what kind of dog? We have APBT's and German Short-haired Pointers.
Colt
Actually, my photo has been posted on iHub a few times but, I guess too many monitors broke down when iHub members tried to view them. And it would take too much time to go and try to find those posts. LOL

I guess now that Ruellit has his kisser on the front page, he's too good for us mere mortals to talk football with...I think he has his eyes set on Hollywood. LOL

I'd like to see about 99% of the politicians, locally, statewide and nationally get voted out of office in the next election and get some fresh blood, but I know that will never happen and in this day and age of all the crazies out there, it wouldn't work very well with a bunch of inexperienced people in office.
Colt
49 points for the 49'ers...it don't get any better than that. LOL
Colt
I've got to say that it is so refreshing to finally come to a message board where everyone helps out and there are not any of the usual spitball fights like on so many other message boards on the internet. Actually this board should have more fights than any board as frustrating as Microsoft and IE can be. LOL Anyway, I'm glad you guys have this board. I've learned a lot about my computer over the past few days.
Colt
It's just not the American way. And even more so when it is so easy that 135 people can run, 99.999% of whom won't get more than a vote or two.
I do think any elected official should be able to be removed for like I say, murder or caught and found guilty of selling drugs to kids, etc., but, not because some voters don't like the guy. When the next election comes around vote him/her out then. That's why we have elections.

Sara...San Francisco 49, Chicago 7
This was a good old fashioned whipping by your 49'ers. I didn't see the game but, I kind of wish I had. Yes about local kids making good. Priest works with the young kids here during the summer. He's very popular with all us kids, no matter what our age. LOL

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- As Ahmed Plummer raced downfield for his game-breaking interception return, a white-haired man with a headset ran right along with him.
Dennis Erickson promised more aggression and enthusiasm when he took charge of the San Francisco 49ers. The new coach backed up those words with a joyful sideline sprint that was one of countless high points in his 49-7 debut victory Sunday over the bumbling Chicago Bears.
Erickson admitted to a serious case of butterflies before the game, but his team showed no nerves while flattening the Bears for their biggest victory since 1989. San Francisco forced five turnovers, outgained Chicago 391 yards to 127 and filled a highlight reel with big plays on offense, defense and special teams.
The 49ers scored 23 points during an impressive rally in the final 6:01 of the first half, turning it into a blowout. In the locker room afterward, Terrell Owens and defensive coordinator Jim Mora presented Erickson with the game ball.
``To be honest, you can't ask for a better start,'' Erickson said. ``We blitzed a lot, we came after them ... and everybody did their job. It was a great team effort.''
The 49ers took a 33-7 halftime lead with their biggest offensive output in a half since 1992. Erickson left in nearly all of his starters to finish two fourth-quarter drives.

The highlights were numerous. Jeff Garcia passed for 229 yards and two touchdowns, and Garrison Hearst caught a TD pass and rushed for another score. Plummer returned an interception 68 yards for a score, and Jimmy Williams and Brandon Lloyd made exceptional special-teams plays.
Tai Streets had a TD catch, Owens caught seven passes for 112 yards, Plummer had two interceptions and Jeff Chandler kicked five field goals.
``It was a great feeling. It was like we were running downhill all day,'' said Williams, who had an interception and forced a fumble. ``We just got on a roll, and everybody made one big play after another.''
The Bears were finished early in their worst defeat since a 47-0 loss at Houston on Nov. 6, 1977. Chicago floundered at every level in quarterback Kordell Stewart's first game since leaving Pittsburgh as a free agent.
Stewart, who infuriated Steelers fans for eight years with erratic performances, went 14-of-34 for 95 yards, missing open receivers and forcing balls to covered ones. He was under constant pressure from the 49ers' blitzing defense, and his teammates dropped passes and missed blocking assignments with alarming frequency.
``I'm embarrassed,'' All-Pro linebacker Brian Urlacher said. ``That was the worst game we've played since I've been here. When it goes bad, it goes bad. We just didn't play well.''
During two dominant scoring drives in the first quarter, the 49ers showcased several of the aggressive innovations promised by Erickson. San Francisco employed a variety of formations, including sets with five receivers or two tight ends.

Chicago only showed signs of life during a brief stretch of the first half. Mike Brown intercepted Garcia's poorly thrown ball inside the 49ers 15, setting up Stewart's 3-yard pass to Desmond Clark.
The defense then forced a punt, but Williams forced and recovered rookie Bobby Wade's fumble at the Chicago 6. Garcia scored on a 3-yard run.
Then Lloyd, a rookie receiver who had an outstanding camp, blocked Brad Maynard's punt at the 18. Streets caught a pass across the middle and scored.
``After a defeat like that, you don't feel good about anything,'' Chicago coach Dick Jauron said. ``It just snowballed. ... I know that there are some things on film that will show up that are going to be OK, but it just seemed like nothing went right.''
Stewart got the Bears into San Francisco territory in the final minute before halftime. But his inept throw behind two receivers was picked off by Plummer, who returned it untouched for his first career touchdown.
Williams then intercepted Stewart with 18 seconds left, setting up Chandler's half-ending field goal. The crowd at Candlestick Park gave a lengthy standing ovation as the 49ers left the field.
``We took advantage of what they gave us, and you saw what happened,'' Owenssaid.
Notes
San Francisco LT Scott Gragg missed the game with an ankle injury, ending his streak of 112 consecutive starts. ... The Bears lost RG Chris Villarial to a sprained knee in the first quarter. ... The 49ers scored more points than any of Erickson's teams did during his four seasons in charge ofthe Seattle Seahawks from 1995-98.
Thanks, Chrisau. I'll stop by and check it out this week.
Colt
Nah, I want OneBgg, to climb to the top of a 28' extension ladder and jump off slamming the ball on the way down. Do one of them Darrell Dawkins Thunder Dunks. LOL That would make a great commercial, especially if Shaq was standing under the basket and OneBgg came crashing down on top of him. That, I'd pay a million bucks to see. <ggg>
Colt
Except if I got charged with killing someone, I would like to have that crooked lawyer on my side. LOL

Geraldo likes to act tough but, in reality he's a big wimp. Actually a little guy with a big mouth.

And me too, M-M.
M-M, it's really a roll of the dice. A kid can look good in the surroundings he's familiar with and turns out to be a total flop in the NBA. You never know.
