It appears that a lot of misconceptions are being bantered about the board. People do not fully understand the meaning of certain terms such as Non Profit Organizations and Parcels of land.
In order to obtain the full scope of the potential that exists for Emerald Med Farms these misconceptions need to be cleared up.
1) Non Profit Organizations as defined by Cornell. Edu:
A non-profit organization is a group organized for purposes other than generating profit and in which no part of the organization's income is distributed to its members, directors, or officers. Non-profit corporations are often termed "non-stock corporations." They can take the form of a corporation, an individual enterprise (for example, individual charitable contributions), unincorporated association, partnership, foundation (distinguished by its endowment by a founder, it takes the form of a trusteeship), or condominium (joint ownership of common areas by owners of adjacent individual units incorporated under state condominium acts). Non-profit organizations must be designated as nonprofit when created and may only pursue purposes permitted by statutes for non-profit organizations. Non-profit organizations include churches, public schools, public charities, public clinics and hospitals, political organizations, legal aid societies, volunteer services organizations, labor unions, professional associations, research institutes, museums, and some governmental agencies.
If we are to fully understand this definition, we must understand the term “other than generating profit”. Generating profit does not mean that Non Profits are restricted from selling products or services at a margin higher than actual cost, resulting in a profit from the mark up. On the contrary, non-profits need to generate income in order to not only pay for the raw materials or to purchase products or services for resale, but to pay overhead, advertising, salaries etc. The term “other than generating profit” is clearly defined in the above paragraph as profits as being limited to the distribution of income derived from the sales of products or services being distributed to members, directors or officers.
Consider these well-known non-profits : Red Cross, Salvation Army, Good Will, Little League & Girl Scouts. All of these companies operate at a profit. Theirs profits are used to pay salaries, operational expenses and most importantly re-invested for growth and expansion.
2) Parcel of land:
A land parcel can be anywhere from part of an acre to many thousands of acres. Larger tracts of land may be broken up into smaller parcels or otherwise known as sub-divisions.
The Mendocino County defines a parcel used for the cultivation of medical Marijuana as: “Parcel” means a parcel as determined by the Assessor for assessment purposes only.” (http://www.mendocinosheriff.com/mm/Ord4291.pdf)
Conceivably Emerald Med Farms , may sub divide their large tract of land into many smaller tracts for the purposes of their operations to supply land, manpower and equipment on a contracted lease basis, thus providing them a clear cut avenue to generate many revenue streams.
It is important to understand some basic principles related to Emerald Med Farms land holdings and the amount of production a shareholder may hope that the company can realize utilizing this operational methodology of contractual leases of land, manpower and equipment.
Let’s start with the maximum amount of plants per parcel of 25. A cultivated may grow 25 plants on just one square meter of land. If we were to be conservative and double that number to 2 square meters ( roughly a little over 20 sq. feet) to allow for different varieties of plants some of which grow wider rather than taller. We know that an acre of land is 43,560 sq. feet. Divide 43,560 / 20 and we see that one acre can house 2, 178 parcels, allowing for the cultivation of 54,450 plants an acre.
Emerald Med Farms can expect to harvest a crop every 6 to 8 weeks, thus allowing for them to replant a crop every 7 to 9 weeks.
This operational model should produce a consistent revenue stream as the location in the Emerald Triangle of Mendocino County is an ideal area to cultivate cannabis.
