The Dow is breaking out big time.
Try Dow stocks instead of Naz.
Or try SSSS or other generator stocks now that Bush has spoken about more energy production.
Also, I decided to get out of BORL: it is not responding to up days. I've been doing nicely with Cree though.

Hi Reid,
Just been lurking. Been enjoying my coal stock, wtu, bought at $17 and more at $21.80, has a 14% yield...wonder what will happen when we get our dividend on May 30th.
It is strange, isn't it, that when people are worried about finances some gamble. But I understand it because it's what I did last year, when I was losing my wealth in the market instead of cashing out and standing aside, I bought and sold crazily, thereby losing more.

Ally has been a good performer for many months now (gaming).
Funny: SLOT is the leader but is not doing that great as a stock.
Gaming is apparently like tobacco, one of the things people run to during reduced economic times.
Freeus
I bought some ntap, glw, jdsu yesterday.
Also bought cdo: comdisc, has been thoroughly beaten up after some bad news. Book value is $6 and stock went to $1.40 yesterday.
Other good dividend stocks:
WTU: coal is the number one industry in some charts
Vlccf: 15% yield
SFI.

I'm going to get my list ready for next down though...could have made a lot of money short term in the ones I'd chosen.
Look at this small cap...goes up and down with China news, but a strong little company. I got some in the 3.90 range. http://www.askresearch.com/cgi-bin/chart?symbol=bnso&exchange=USA&size=640x480&months=3+...

re:p close to a bottom
Well I don't know: the williams is down and the red bars underneath are getting bigger and the money flow is down.
This is a shorting market.
I'll look for some for tomorrow.
Was going to do it today but shorting scares me.
Going long is what should scare me.
Freeus
Even buy signals are iffy, as P went down though on a buy after I bought it....news that they may buy some company dampened and of course the market. I think it is still a good hold for the summer high oil prices time.
I bought ally and slot and sold ally at a loss this a.m. and slot at a gain. Will buy slot back around 57 (it got there this morning but I didn't have a limit order in to buy because you have to see if it falls further) but I wasn't around.
It should ride up again from there.
Freeus
Otherwise, I'm running scared. Want to keep what cash I have for when the big guys fall (ko, ge, and msft especially) and in case any small growing companies turn up.
What a killer day.
Is this a good time to buy ko? It's near its year's low.
Are you buying anything?
I got a little P this morning and sold the rest of orcl and the "uncovered" wcom at a profit before everything caved in. Have a slight loss in ally and slight gain in slot and not sure what to do about it, they are fairly strong.
Didn't buy hov but it's pretty strong too, considering.

re long term aggressive growth:
That's funny, or pathetic and tragic depending upon my mood: that's how I began in investing. Then I made a fortune in Dell and Qcom but did not cash it in...now I need to start over with the "real companies".
Sigh

Guess I'm lucky I at least put a little into cash!
here's an energy one that looks good too:

Ok I'm going out to the local salad and soup place for dinner, and then I refuse to think about stocks until early morn...see you then.
Best bets:
p
hov
ucu
maybe slot or maybe I'll take my gain and sell it
au revoir for a while!

tyc a buy here?

Also for "long term history" for blue chip stocks: do you mean like 100 years old like ko, or not quite that long? And do you require any special growth rate or dividend when you choose (or when you chose)
Freeus
P and JPM look especially ready to me...not overextended, nice and close to support plus both very fine "blue chip" type companies.

Thank you good sir!

To Reid and everyone:
Can we discuss money management sometime?
questions I am thinking about after my debacle last year:
What percentage of an investment plan should be traded?
What percentage (if any) should be in cash? in bonds or cd's?
Can the entire investment portfolio be in stocks but sell stocks as money is needed, or is that foolish?
Does retirement from working for someone else change how this should be done?
Any successes people have had managing their investment and risk and etc etc would be welcome.

Beautiful charts: does it matter that the red bars on HAL on the MACD are not getting smaller? (The rest of the chart looks so good)
Freeus
Duk: looks like 40 would be a better entry?
This might be one I could learn for getting in and out on a fairly regular basis, don't you think?

Here's a low p/e lower priced possibility for a move up:http://www.askresearch.com/cgi-bin/chart?symbol=hov&exchange=USA&size=640x480&months=3+m...

Don Hays of Barrons says we are in for a longer term rally now or shortly. He's often right.
Just thought I'd mention it.
What about DUK?
http://www.askresearch.com/cgi-bin/chart?symbol=duk&exchange=USA&size=640x480&months=3+m...
Good fundamentals too: could be a longer term hold I think.
Freeus
I bought a little SLOT (anchor gaming) Friday under 60 and thinking of adding. Leisure-gaming is moving up fast on IBD's best sector list and SLOT has good fundamentals. What's a good stop?

Power Pig?
Businesses MUST use more power, to make sure their customers are comfortable and to keep the business going.
What also gripes me is that people under a certain income are excused from the rate increases....increases in rates will cause conservation to anyone with brains to figure out the relationship: low income should NOT be a reason to excuse people from "conserving or paying"
Freeus
But if you look long term it is not so scary:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=^DJI&d=my
Those Naz and Dow charts frighten me. If they are truly an indicator of what is to come, there is no point in holding anything more than a few days unless you buy it AT THE LEAST at its 52 week low, is there?
Scary.
Freeus
But are you keeping your long term portfolio intact?
re,,,hit bottom and stay there for several months.
Absolutely it could: I'm even wondering about liquidating my grandkids accounts, even though theirs are "long term"...
what they have, hd, msft, qcom, will be able to be bought back at pennies on the dollar in a few months I think...if I even want to have the same stocks in there at all.
Freeus
Good bailing on epg.
If you still like adct I guess I'll leave it in Ted's portfolio; his portfolio is so pitiful now that I don't want to do any more anything in it if possible. For now.
The adct, epq, jec, mo etc stuff makes me more than ever convinced I have to do nothing for a while. Maybe a long while.
I'm even afraid to short. May do some bear spreads with my investment club in April though and if it turns out ok, I'll do that every month.
Freeus
What a horrible market to live through. Wish I'd not been so hard headed and had sold everything last year. It would have been a good time to ignore the market for a year or so!
I guess its too soon to begin a long term portfolio but I would like ltr and maybe ge and hd but they wont go down enough!!!!!!

Hi Donna:
I got out of adct the day before yesterday at 10+ same as I bought it but didn't get my fiance out (I mismanage his portfolio)...the news this morning was horrible: are you giving up on it or putting it on the back burner for a bounce?
Freeus
Hg mentioned this: it has a great dividend: how does it look technically?
Fundamentally it looks pretty good....but isn't this the kind of market to stay OUT of, even out of utilities and energy and stuff?
Anything can cause anything to collapse I would think...even mo could go to high 30's in my opinion.

I thought a black candle was bad and meant reversal down?
Freeus
So although Williams and the MACD show a buy, the candle overshadows both of those? Is that true for any chart?
Freeus
Donna, did you see the IBD list of strongest stocks this week? I think it was on March 20th.
I have it and could fax it to you, or send it via the computer if you like.
Some fine companies there that have been beaten down: I'd like to see chkp beaten a little further (vbg)

Thanks a ton, V.

re...or something even darker, a wealth correction...,
Of course you all know that's what I think...in fact it should have alerted me to get out when I was wealthy...Greenspan made it clear he did not want the average Joe "wealthy"...only Politians and people in the "Beltway" are allowed.
I have a question though...
How do I assign a b or no b rating (buy or not to buy) when there are fine charts, but also Vendit has warned we will probably be testing lows again...
Wait for the testing lows and THEN buy the fine charts????
Because it seems very difficult for any stocks to go up, even those with fine charts, when the market is tanking.
Or should I be looking at it differently?
Also some of the "gorilla" stocks, ie.itwo and cree and SOOO low in price right now, I'm tempted.NTAP also.

re /Elon: I meant was it a good short candidate.
I didn't cover my short positions today and should have...would had nice profits:
What does the chart show for tomorrow? Both Naz and Dow recovered from lows but they still made new lows...does that mean we are still in danger? The radio and tv people are all saying the naz has bottomed.
Freeus
Is this(ELON) a good short then?
Ought to be shorting something on the Dow though!
Freeus
Yes, osip too...have to go work, hope at lunchtime I still have good profits in those and I may consider covering: don't want to ever be "greedy" again, esp not on the downside
Freeus
I am wondering: I have tried to short several other stocks but my broker (Brown&Co) did not have any available...my friend was able to get some of some of them from a different broker: don't know if that means Brown&Co is very small or that there is an awful lot of shorting going on.
