Connecting the dots .....
Auris had its origins at Columbia University, where scientists were studying tiny robotic instruments for reaching areas such as the back of the eye and inner ear. The technology promised to make it possible to use flexible tools in procedures that would be difficult or impossible with manual techniques, said Christopher Velis, CEO of venture firm MedCap and an Auris co-founder.
Dr. Dennis Fowler

Intuitive Surgical Says FDA Clears Ion System for Lung Biopsy
Source: Dow Jones News
By Michael Dabaie
Intuitive Surgical Inc. (ISRG) said Tuesday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the Ion endoluminal system to enable minimally invasive biopsy in the peripheral lung.
The Ion system uses an ultra-thin articulating robotic catheter that can move 180 degrees in all directions. The outer diameter of the catheter is 3.5 mm, which physicians can navigate through small and tortuous airways to reach nodules in any airway segment within the lung.
Intuitive said it plans to begin customer shipments in the second quarter.

This board is sooo very much bipolar..... this time last year you posted
Re: El Guapo Roboto Post# 67542
This company has proven again that it is full of incompetence and lies. I was a HUGE supporter for years but there is a time when you just can’t listen to the same bullshit messsge again and again. They have built us up to think all the best just to beat us down. They disserve no respect at this time. I’m out. Was hanging on for hope but this is like an addicted drug addict that is in rehab for the 10th time. Time to lose ties and move on. Lost so much money and time here and it is ultimately my fault. Time to figure out another path. I DO wish flesh eating disease to all management for swindling us out of so much of our lives!... Brst of luck to all that continue to have hope.

Reached by phone Huennekens said that his last day was December 31, and that his departure was not under bad terms. He said he could not disclose anything further about why he left due to his nondisclosure agreement with the company. A spokesman for Verb also confirmed his departure, but would not provide any further details or the company’s plans to look for a new CEO.
Verb Surgical is currently developing a platform for robotic surgery and was formed out of a partnership between Alphabet’s life sciences arm Verily and Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon in 2015. Little is know about the details of its technology, but it appears that once its products are released, it will attempt to compete with the likes of Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci robotic surgery platform.

https://globalcorporateventuring.com/gcv-powerlist-2016-tom-heyman-johnson-johnson-4/
In his annual statement, Heyman recognised the hard work of his team and the experience gained from working with other innovation units over more than 40 years. He said: “We credit our success in 2015 to our tactical alignment and collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Innovation, as well as Johnson & Johnson’s business development teams and R&D organisations. We have seen time and again that by close collaboration, we can accurately identify market opportunities that drive growth for Johnson & Johnson. Thank you for a spectacular year.”
And this collaboration for JJDC extends beyond J&J. News provider MedCity News and law firm Lake Whillans through a survey found JJDC to be the fund that “life sciences innovators most trusted, would most likely work with again and delivered the most positive experience”.
Heyman said “success is also very much about the quality of our investments” rather than just their number. He added: “JJDC seeks to identify companies that not only provide favourable financial returns, but also support the strategic growth of Johnson & Johnson through licensing partnerships, R&D collaborations or acquisitions – activities known as on-boardings. In 2015 we had three successful on-boardings of portfolio companies – one each for our pharma, medical device and consumer portfolios.”
“Our overall private portfolio of venture investments is comprised of approximately 70% medical device companies. About 40% of our investments were new (versus follow-on), up about a third over 2014. This comprised a total of more than double the amount of capital invested in 2014.”
Ok ok everyone wants to make a profound impact on Humanity.....

A bit of a reach tacos???
“When you look at this, you see there are 8 billion people on earth and only 3 billion have access to surgery. That’s incredible. I didn’t appreciate that, and that you could be part of something. It’s temporal in nature. It may take 20 or 30 years, but [the idea that] you could kickstart a process to build a platform that could grow into giving access to surgery for those other 5 billion people was … it still sends shivers up my spine, to have the opportunity to get to make that difference in the world, by creating a platform that could include robotics and machine learning and data analytics. That was awe-inspiring and super-exciting for me and made me say, “All right, I’m done with Africa vacations and golf in Scotland. This is more important.”
