pat/Susan McDougal
If she went to prison for not testifying, why would you think that she would tell you now?
I think that she should be given a lot of credit for not telling now.
pat/Bill Clinton
He isn't going to go away quietly like a normal ex-president.
He is 54 years old and still has to work before he retires. His wife is a US Senator from a large state. Couple with the fact that there are people who are watching every move he makes then, no, he won't disappear from the news.
Rememeber, the other ex-Presidents were much older when they left the presidency.
Cut the guy some slack.
Where is Indy lately?
Not that I would ever speak for Indy (or could speak for Indy for that matter), but I would say that he is busy getting settled in his new home. Remember he told us that he was moving? I am assuming it is that.
Re: meme/Spall/pat
Voyager? Next Generation? Phooey. Nothing beats the original Star Trek. Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock was the best couple on TV.
Is there a debate brewing? Will we raise our fists to fight over the best Star Trek? If so, just remember, the first is always the best. Anything else is imitation.
meme/Re: Where would Gore be without politics?
(tear in my eye) I really miss Bill Clinton.
Thanks, I think, for the Bushisms
Spalz - looks like you made some new friends over at PIMB
But please do me a favor and NOT give them this website address, OK? <g>
If anyone is on line
Go to the PIMB and try to act like those assholes are not there. I am trying to start up some new converational topics, but no one wants to answer.
This is exactly what they want to happen - let's not let them overtake the board.
what do you mean go is goin away? -
This week, Disney decided to no longer support go.com. I am not sure what that will totally mean - meme posted an article link earlier this week. You may want to go back in these posts and find it.
i've tried that and there are no new ones - did everyone leave.
That is because there are probably no new posts. This board ususally hops in the evening. Most of the day, I answer any posts from the night before. Ususally sometime during the day spalz or dereliavate will pop in.
If things keep up, the board will be shut down by the end of the day. kobeb and kronq are now there fighting with them.
The thing is to keep up with our regular conversations and ignore them.
Actually, I am there today under an assumed name. They are really gunning for me because I didn't take their crap on the other board. I was hoping if smart_sassy didn't post today, they would leave the board alone. guess I was wrong.
I did notify the host earlier in the week about them. I also sent a note to them today over the screen name "Ni**er Lover" that name repulses me.
I think they just don't care anymore because go.com is going away and most of them will probably lose their jobs. They could probably care what goes on.
where'd everyone go? - anyone still here?
I'm here - have been checking in every now and then.
You can refresh the screen and any new posts will pop up.
spalz/Think - Pledge of Allegiance controversy
Damn it, I wish this was the sixties so I could phucking protest against something. We need a good war and baby Bush is just the man for the job.
You weren't born then, and I was just an adolencent, but the 60's weren't always the best of times. The division over VietNam and the race riots nearly caused this country to break in two. No, I don't want another war. I am a "make love, not war" kind of gal, so civil disobedience is just right for me.
spalz/Pledge of Allegiance controversy
Isn’t Virginia supposed to be the very cradle of our liberty?
Jerry Falwell lives in Virginia - I would hardly call it the cradle of our liberty anymore. At least it is not for me.
Now, do we also want to talk about Ollie North who lives there, too?
derelivate/In the midwest it is often the same.
My mother's boyfriend managed to alienate the neighbors by slamming doors and making audible comments whenever the lady went out in her back yard to smoke. She pretended not to notice the drunken fool, but it was impossible for her to miss his actions.
I know it is none of my business, but is this guy still your mother's boyfriend?
spalz/Boortz - Zero tolerance or zero intelligence?
I bet you get told many times that you are a smart ass, don't you? <G>
I did read the article (when you said it was amusing, I relented). For once I agree with him.
I just hate it when he gets on his soap box.
spalz/sassy - Racial Profiling
We just have to make sure that we do not discourage cops from picking up potential criminals just because the policeman fears that he will be accused of racism.
Agreed. But my point is that the opposite occurs - innocent people are being stopped without cause. When you look at the statistics from New Jersey, I think it is clear that people are being stopped without justification.
We have to balance of law and order while maintaining a patient's civil rights.
derelivate/Zero tolerance or zero intelligence?
My vote is for the latter.
First, it is Arkansas - ever been there? I have been there several times for work - some pretty dumb people there.
I can almost (I say almost) cut them some slack due to the prior incident - I can see them being gun shy (no pun intended). But this is ridiculous.
When my nephew was 6 or 7, he wanted a toy gun. My sister said "no", so he grabbed his sister's Barbie Doll and make Barbie into a torpedo. He's 20 now, a little strange, but certainly no crazed gunman. I don't think you can draw any conclusion about this 8 year old's violent tendencies.
Being a recent ex-smoker (5 months yesterday), I still have no problem with smoke and smokers. Maybe I still enjoy the smell of them, I'm not sure. As long as there are smoking and non-smoking sections, I don't have an issue.
Smoking outdoors is no problem. It is ridiculous to make that illegal.
However, I have always said that if I became one of those obnoxious ex-smokers, to shoot me.
BTW, if smoking does bother you, don't go to Vegas. The smoking was so bad there (there seem to be no restrictions) it even got to me.
matt/sassy re: Mail Box
thanks - it might have helped if I found the help or faq myself <g> Appreciate the assistance
Indy - how did the move go?
Are you and your soulmate all settled in yet (yeah, right). How are the new digs? I hope you have at least one good move story for us.
Think - how does this mailbox work
Can you explain it - it said that I had 5 messages, but none of them were private responses - all public.
spalz/sassy - Racial Profiling:
If blacks are 95% more likely to commit a crime, doesn't racial profiling make sense? I mean, as much as that idea is patently offensive, you've got to admit that it is pragmatic.
That still does not justify stopping every black person without cause. I would think you would agree with me that this method is a total infringement on a person's rights.
indy/Re: Relative Deviate- What isn't Think the chairman."
I get the feeling we should all feel as if we are the chairperson here in the free zone. Equal in paradox, equal in paradigm.
Equal in the bullsh!tting......
indy/Re: Spallz: Racial Profiling.
Yeah. Whats the cop on the street supposed to do when he gets an APB describing a black man as a perp. go stop a bunch of white people? Duh.
But look at the reverse. If the APB said the perp was white, they sure as hell don't stop every white man.
spalz/Indy - Racial Profiling:
Do you want your local plice man to let a suspicious looking person go, just because he might be accused of racial profiling?
Of course not, but my question to you is "what makes the person look suspicious?" In many cases, like in New Jersey, it was because of the color of their skin.
spalz/WEAC2312 - Wow, a dictatorship!
Maybe they could even get Vince McMahon to be the moderator for the debates? <G>
Can you see it now - Extreme Debating. No rules!!!! Tell the other candidate exactly how you feel about them. Yeah - for once we would hear the truth !!!
patlee/Wow, a dictatorship!
I say after Bush serves his 8 years, we elect Laura Bush to succeed him.
Well, one thing for sure, it won't be Cheney, because, unfortunately, he'll be dead.
spalz/Think/An evil racist plot...
I agree that Jackson and Son have done some good, but they are still ass-holes in my book
Now, what has JJ, Jr done to irritate you? I have seen him a few times and, actually, like him better than dad. He is articulate, intelligent and toned-down from dad.
Why do you put him in the same category with this father? Guilty by association?
derelivate/Are you claiming that Mexicans have no work ethic?
As soon as I posted that, I realized I was making a gross generalization, which I do not like to do. I do base my opinion on what my sister tells me, who lives in So Ca. I live in PA. The illegals who cross the border to have their kids in the US and then are dumped on an over-extended welfare system.
I know that the Cubans, for the most part, have worked hard in Flordia to establish themselves, which was really not made apparent during the Elian months.
I apologize if I offended you - I was trying to prove a point to spalz, and probably did it poorly.
spalz/An evil racist plot...
I didn't say the color of skin, I said the culture.
Not much difference there in my book.
The Hispanic culture champions hard work, community, and family, while much of the black community does not.
Depends on what type of Hispanics you are referring to. The Cubans, yes; the Mexicans, no.
sassy/An evil racist plot...
What exactly is the difference? I'm not 100% sure what the illegitimacy rate is referring to, but it probably means that 65% of black children are born out of wedlock.
I would like to see the stats on that. There is a big difference in what you think it means and the fact that of the illigitimate children born, 65% are black.
I think you meant to say that you don't blame all of the ills of the world on racism. And yes, I do think that there are many out there that blame all of the problems black people face on racism. Jesse Jackson is the leader of that field of thought.
I don't think that even Jesse believes that, but he will do whatever he can to champion the cause. If he has to focus on racism to get something done, then he will. Don't we all tend to over exaggerate to make our point?
The culture perpetuates an anti-education, anti-work ethic mentality.
I think that poverty perpetuates that mentality, not the color of your skin.
I'm sure your virgin ears have heard worse, considering the amount of time you spent on that other board.
I have to get busy at work. My alter ego has been having too good a time over there insulting people at my hearts content. I am hoping to go on the road next week - that will keep me busy.
spallz/An evil racist plot...
Black illegitimacy hovers around 65 percent nationally.
Is he saying that 65% of blacks have illegitimate children, or 65% of the illegitimate children born have black moms. big difference.
I don't know, spalz. I don't blame racism on all the ills of the world and I doubt that others do as well. However, a lack of education does cause many problems in the world and the fact is that many of these undereducated persons are black. Why is that? Are they lazy people who want the world handed to them, or, are they discriminated against whenever trying to get ahead in the world. It is neither, yet probably a mix of the two, plus many other factors.
I did not read all of the posts by you and mikkj on this subject - it got too ugly - so I am not sure what point either one of you were trying to make.
Mormon's morals=Bye-bye First ammendment
The thing that really got me about that article is that they immediately think that if you like/watch porn, you are a pedophile.
I know a few people who really enjoy porn and they are the furthest thing from being pedophiles. What is wrong with looking at movies/pictures of people doing it? (provided that the people doing it are consenting)
Think/Spalz - What was I thinking?
Guys, sorry to have confused your posts - I would blame the incident on being in a drug induced stupor, but I don't do drugs anymore.
Well, gee, I thought I was giving my young friend sage advice. Well, I guess the same can go for you - with the exception of the multiple women thing 'cuz your married <g>
Hey, if we all knew then what we know now, we would all be richer. Me? I love the 40's and would not want to go back to my 20's for anything. I enjoy life much more now - maybe it's the money to bascially do whatever I want, but life is much better now.
George Carlin is a genius.
derelivate/Mormon's morals=Bye-bye First ammendment
"Nudity is not pornography," Houston said. What is obscene, she added, depends on where you live and whose moral compass is being used.
Well, duh. Isn't that the reason we should not ban it? It depends on the definition of "porn" is.
What do you expect - it's Utah.
Conspiracy theory/derelivate
Knowing that, doesn't it seem odd that Jerry Garcia was able to O.D. while under care for opiate addiction in a medical center? Was it a bad coincidence or a covert operation?
Can't agree with you on this one. Garcia was a great guy - love the music, but I am sure that every friend and groupie allowed in were bringing him stuff. In fact, he was such a likeable guy, the staff probably gave him the stuff.
lc/Not even the FWOD???
OK - wow - one thing we do agree on.
You are right - this country has put far too much money into a failed attempt to limit drug use. It is ridiculous and stupid - the money can go to much better use.
Now - here is where we disagree. I am sure you would say the money should be in our own pockets, but I think it should to towards our education system. We can't agree on everything, you know :)
FWOD = Failed War on Drugs
Thank you, lc. Glad to see you over here - even though we never agree on anything.
What does "FWOD" stand for?
Thought I had all my internet abbreviations figured out - what is this one?
spalz/Re: Indy-Is sugar a harmful drug?
And sugar is harmful, but I'm hooked on my sugar-laced sodas, so what's a sweet addict supposed to do? I've given up beer and multiple women and gave up cigarettes for awhile, but I'm back on the nicotine again, but to give up cola flavored sugar laced caffeinated beverages might be going just a little too far.
There are very few things, in moderation, that will kill you, unless the multiple women find out about each other. <G> Have a few beers, colas, joints, smokes and, yes, women, but do it in moderation.
I hope you were joking when you were talking about the stress in your life. Sweetie, you are, what 20? You are too young for life to have you stressed out. College is for fun - don't sweat the stuff until you have to go into the real world.
My piece of advice comes from George Carlin: Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things" that is my motto in life.
