HHL is a stalker (26)
He went to yet another board and tried to start trouble, this particular one I am the administrator and banned him. Just thought I would let everyone know just how far he will go.
And some here think I am the one who is the hater? Jeesh!
No walkoff tonight,
Cleveland wins, Red Sox had 15 hits against Westbrook but lose.
Manny and Papi both fly out to right field warning track in the ninth.
CBS4 in Boston is reporting
that Javy Lopez is going to the Red Sox. No terms announced yet.
Sox fan,
not true. I am concerned about their starting pitching, the injuries and Mike Timlins poor outings lately as well as the EZ pitchers.
When the Sox were healthy I considered them the best team in baseball. Right now, as I posted at royalrooters, they are not a championship caliber team. Hopefully they will overcome them and be the best again in time for October.
Another walkoff,
This time it is Mark Loretta with a single with the bases loaded driving in two runs.
The Sox had two strikeouts and then the Cleveland bullpen finally imploded, two hit batters, a walk and then Loretta banging one high off the monstah.
Wily Mo
just hit a lazer beam off the monster seats, the ball was absolutely smoked.
Manny has also hit a homer for his ninth straight year of hitting 30 home runs in a season, sixth with Boston. Williams leads all time with eight.
Wily Mo has hit two home runs and a triple this week after replacing Trot Nixon who is injured.
Jeter isn't the mvp of his own team,
I would say that would either be Wang or Mussina, without those two the Yankees would be in third place.
I can't believe people
are still beating the dead horse of the MVP. And the more people denigrate Ortiz the dumber they look.
Don't worry Skillz HHL (26) has always been that way toward Met and Red Sox fans. He only stalked me over here to stir up the trouble he has.
Only Steeler Fan of the whole bunch isn't on ignore although I did consider lifting it for the final part of the season. It appears they act the same way toward you so I guess I won't.
Just be careful that they don't go crying to Matt about you or you will be stifled with your opinions too.
To only have three posts a day at I-hub because of the censorship of Yankee fans is horrible, but it is one of the reasons why I dislike the Yankees so.
If I didn't want to keep my membership at I-hub because of my X-Dev software I would delete it from my bookmarks.
And the Drays,
continue to desolve their offense. They are never going to get good if they don't get the pitching they need and keep trading for outfielders, even someone like Guzman.
Ric,
everyone has their own opinion. I guess you love RFK since you live there now. The Trop is in a bad location for me because I live to the north. I would prefer it in Tampa or the northern burbs.
However, the location is good for those who live in the Bradenton, St. Pete and Sarasota areas so it depends on where one is coming from.
As I enjoy going to the beach at Passa-Grille before an evening ballgame I don't mind the location a bit.
Most gripes about the stadium tend to come from ex-Floridians or those who don't like indoor stadiums.
Carlos Lee to Texas
For Cordero, Mench and Nix per ESPn.
Ric,
Please stop denigrating the Trop. Where else can you get the seats you can get for the Red Sox or the Yankees?
Two rows off the field, try getting that at Fenway or Yankee stadium. I also enjoyed seeing Teddy Ballgames collectables. I was a bit disappointed that there was so little of it on display but it was neat, none the less.
Red Sox have two 13 game winners
As Curt Schilling joins teammate Josh Beckett and Toronto pitcher Roy Halliday as the only three in the majors with that many wins.
Red Sox win 13-5 to clinch the series against Oakland. They play the final game of the series this afternoon at 3:35 Eastern.
All four AL West teams tasted defeat at the hands of their AL East counterparts as Toronto defeated Seattle, Tampa over the Angels and Texas fell to the New Yorkers.
White Sox acquire relief
CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago White Sox acquired right-handed reliever Mike MacDougal from the Kansas City Royals on Monday for minor league pitchers Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes.
An All-Star in 2003, MacDougal was activated from the disabled list on July 13 after straining his right shoulder during spring training. He is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a save in four appearances.
The 29-year-old MacDougal was 21-for-25 in save situations last season.
Peg,
Don't feel to bad, Toronto has manhandled us the last two years as well. They seem to get up for the Sox and Yankees but then have trouble with some of the teams they should beat. I am thankful of that.
Losing to Halliday and Burnett is nothing to be ashamed of either. I feel real fortunate to of won last night with Snyder pitching, although he really hasn't been bad other than one inning out of his three starts.
Today we have an unknown guy going up from the minors, who knows how that will pan out?
Red Sox take opener 9-4
Ortiz, Manny, Varitek, A-Gon and Youks all go deep. Snyder gets the victory. Ortiz plays first base and Youks at third as Mike Lowell sits for a second straight day with a stomach virus.
Red Sox move back to a 3.5 game lead in the AL East as Toronto beats the Yankees for the second straight day.
A-rod gets hit #2,000, Homer #450
Looks like he is trying to make up for his defense. He is the youngest to #450.
A Rod is really, really lost
He tried to sideswipe the first ball hit in the game instead of moving in front of it like you are taught in little league. Predictably, the ball went into left field for a double.
Toronto has jumped out in front in the first inning 4-0. Wright isn't fooling anyone. Hopefully Burnett can hold this lead as the Red Sox are pitching dreck the next two days against the M's.
Mussina threw him under the bus last night with all his comments.
Red Sox win 6-4
despite having three starters on the bench. Go Sox!
On to Seattle...
Wakefield goes on DL
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060720&content_id=1566329&vkey=news_mlb....
Papi not playing today because of a sore back. Lowell out with a stomach virus...
Excel,
The thing is, they shouldn't of even played the bottom of the ninth. It should of been called before the half even started, with thunder and lightning it was hazardous to the players and the fans. I would bet if the Yankees were leading the game would of been stopped.
It was a close call but Posada was out, even the Yankee announcers said they caught a break. If the division is decided by one game again, I will remember this one.
PS- any idea why I was limited to 3 posts a day this weekend? I thought this had all been fixed. I tried to reach Matt but he hasn't returned my PM.
Jon Jon one hits Royals
Jon Lester pitched eight innings of one hit, four walk, four strikeout ball and Jon Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth to lead the Red Sox to their second shutout in the past four days after being the last team in the major leagues to register one.
Jason Varitek scored the only run.
Jason Varitek,
tonight passes Carlton Fisk for most games caught by a Red Sox catcher at 991 games.
Peg,
as of the other day they had more come from behind wins than any other team. I don't know if that still holds true but I know of at least two more since I heard that statement on TV.
Even so, they need to get Clement and Wells back or trade for a couple more pitchers or they will be in trouble. Wells is suddenly improving, so hopefully he can be back within a couple of weeks, but I am leary of him being able to make a full contribution. Clement's bicep problem is a mystery.
Red Sox comback, win 5-4
KC's bullpen let's them down again, as Doug Mirabelli hits his third home run of the season. Ortiz steals a base and Timlin gets the win. Papelbon picks up the save to move back into the top of the leaderboard in the AL. Manny's Sac Fly is the GWRBI.
I hope not,
With the slump Youk and Loretta have went into lately there isn't anyone on for Papi and Manny. Hopefully they will find a way against a weak Royal bullpen.
Wakefield out after only four innings
not good, this makes about four starts in a row he has been having problems. Red Sox down 3-0 entering the fifth inning.
We won't stay in first
If we continue to play like we have the last three games, errors, untimely hitting, giving up leads. Hopefully we turn it around starting tomorrow.
Red Sox call up Craig Breslow
BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Red Sox purchased left-hander Craig Breslow's contract from Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday.
Left-hander Lenny DiNardo was moved from the 15- to 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster for Breslow. Righty Jason Johnson was optioned to the minors earlier in the week, opening a spot for Breslow.
Breslow, who went to Yale, was 0-0 with a 2.20 ERA in 14 games for the San Diego Padres last season. He went 5-1 with five saves and a 3.40 ERA in 26 relief appearances at Pawtucket this year and was selected to the Triple-A All-Star game.
peg,
That would be nice from our point of view, but we are playing a division leader ourselves. Beckett and Schilling had a tough time down in Tampa and until they can stop throwing gopher balls I won't be entirely happy with their performances.
We almost gave Contraras his first loss and he will be playing a big game in Yankee Stadium, so you know his history in that regard.
I think both teams will be fortunate if they come out of the weekend the way they go into it. The Red Sox will spend the rest of the month outside of the division, including a trip out west. They have a lot of home games so it will be interesting to see what happens.
I think the next month could make or break either team.
Peg,
You haven't been reading yankee fans sites then because they have been doing a lot of crying and using their injuries as an excuse. My point was the Sox have a very long list of players who have been injured as well, I didn't even include Schilling who took a shot off his elbow the other day or Wakefield who is worried about his back.
With all the injuries the Red Sox have had, that is why I stated most are happy to be in first, at least from the sites I frequent. I think more fans are grateful we are in first place than are disturbed the Yankees are 2.5 back.
New stamps honor baseball sluggers By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - The post office hopes to hit a grand slam by honoring a quartet of baseball's great sluggers on postage.
Ceremonies are scheduled for Yankee Stadium on Saturday to release new 39-cent stamps and 24-cent postal cards honoring Mickey Mantle, Roy Campanella, Hank Greenberg and Mel Ott.
Sox Fan: Semantics
You stated,
that I was not speaking for Sox fans when I stated we were happy to be in first, so in effect you were.
Well Sox fan,
being as I really don't want to start getting into arguments with you like I did with the Yankees, all I will say is if you don't care to believe that Red Sox fans are happy to be in first place, please conduct a poll at Fenway Park tonight and ask fans if they are or not.
I don't exactly consider my answer to be dilusional, if you do you really need to get out and talk to some red sox fans.
Excel,
Well what i said to Sox fan holds true to you to of course.
The fact is the Red Sox were without their center fielder for over a quarter of the season, have been without David Wells practically the whole season, have been without Matt Clement for several starts now, have been without their closer Keith Foulke for so long everyone now assumes Papelbon is the closer, have been without backup pitchers Lenny Di Nardo and David Pauley because of injuries, have been without Gabe Kapler most of the season as he rehabbed, have been without Wily Mo Pena for at least a quarter of the season, etc.
So yeah, the Facts are the Red Sox have had plenty of injuries which have held them back somewhat too, while the Yankee fans cry that they are only in second place because of their injuries. I don't see much difference except as Torre says, it is harder to deal with losing pitchers than hitters, so if he is right the Red Sox have had a tougher go.
So the Fact is the Red Sox fans are happy to be in first. Anyone in first would like to have it clinched at the all star break, but I don't believe that has ever been done.
Sox Fan,
I do speak for millions of Sox fans, are you telling me Red Sox fans are not happy to be in first place? Do you speak for all Red Sox fans? I don't think so.
So a Seattle Devil Rays and a Yankee
fan know how a Red Sox fan feels. LOL
I will tell you how we feel, we feel good, we are in first place, our team is winning 60% of it's games and has more home games than anyone else left.
We are feeling great, just as long as we don't need Tavarez or Seanez pitching in extra innings that is. LOL
Red Sox blow game to A's
After having a 3-1 lead, Loretta non-chalants a grounder which allows two runs to score to tie the game. The Red Sox Willie Harris was picked off of first with no outs, which proved costly as the Sox got another runner on by benefit of the walk.
Tavarez gave up two runs in the eleventh to take the loss.
I hope this doesn't become a habit,
Red Sox going into x-tra innings for second straight game. Loretta's error allowed two runs to score to tie the game.
