The Bigger Picture
Bill Howald Explains How Rye Patch is Much More Than Its Legal Dispute
Kevin Michael Grace
November 13, 2012 - When a junior explorer takes on a producer 32 times its size, people take notice. And so when Rye Patch Gold V.RPM filed suit against Coeur d’Alene Mines T.CDM claiming it had failed to renew mineral claims at its Rochester Silver Mine in Nevada and then claim-jumped Rye Patch in response, coverage of the dispute has led to the perception that Rye Patch is little more than a lawsuit. The trial is now set to begin September 16, 2013, and Rye Patch believes it will prevail. In the meantime, President/CEO Bill Howald is frustrated that investors are paying scant attention to the value that Rye Patch represents: its unencumbered properties on the Oreana and Cortez Trends. He spoke to Kevin Michael Grace October 7.

Gold ? Obama
Kevin Michael Grace
Gold was up (at press time) $49 (+2.9%) for the week to $1,726, and silver was up $1.37 (+4.4%) to $32.24. GoldCore argued October 7, “Obama’s election means that quantitative easing, ultra-loose monetary policies and currency debasement are set to continue in the world’s number-one economy, which is bullish for gold—and indeed silver.”
One hopes that no Auguries readers made the mistake of betting money on the Presidential prediction that appeared in this space last week. Your columnist should have read his own analysis more carefully before venturing into wish fulfilment.

‘High Grade Is A Wonderful Thing’
Fred Stanford Talks About Torex’s $380M Financing and Bankable Feasibility
Kevin Michael Grace
November 6, 2012 - Torex Gold Resources Inc T.TXG announced October 23 it had closed a $380-million bought-deal share offering (including a $30-million oversubscription) to finance its Morelos Gold Project, 180 kilometres southwest of Mexico City, and working capital.
Morelos contains proven and probable reserves of 48.8 million tonnes grading 2.61 grams per tonne gold and 4.35 g/t silver for 4.09 million ounces gold and 6.81 million ounces silver. According to a bankable feasibility study announced September 4, based on $1,276-per-ounce gold, Morelos is scheduled to begin production in 2015 and produce 3.47 million ounces over 10.5 years at $421 per ounce, with cumulative cashflow of $1.56 billion. The initial CAPEX is $552 million; the aftertax net present value (NPV) is $900 million (at a 5% discount); the aftertax internal rate of return (IRR) is 24.9%; and the payback period is 3.6 years.

Auguries - You Didn’t Rebuild That
November 3, 2012
Kevin Michael Grace
Gold was down (at press time) $35.20 (-2.1%) for the week to $1,677, and silver was down $1.28 (-4%) to $30.87. Goldcore blamed the loss (all of which occurred Friday) on “better than expected [US] employment data .” The headline employment rate actually increased 0.1% to 7.9%, but this can be attributed to 369,000 Americans leaving the ranks of “not in the labour force.”
Earlier in the week, Goldcore declared that “Gold is likely to go much higher in the course of the 45th President’s four-year term—whether there is a President Obama or a President Romney.” In defence of this argument, it cited “The devastation of Hurricane Sandy [which] will be a further blow to the already fragile US economy” and the “fiscal cliff involving steep government spending cuts and tax hikes [which] looms in January.”

Putting Canada On The Map
Gary Economo Talks Focus Graphite’s Lac Knife Graphite PEA
Kevin Michael Grace
November 1, 2012 - Focus Graphite Inc V.FMS announced October 29 a preliminary economic assessment of its Lac Knife Graphite Project in Quebec. The PEA forecasts a mine life of 20 years with overall production of six million tonnes of mill feed grading 15.66% Cgr (carbon in graphite or graphitic carbon) with average graphite recovery of 91.3%. Life-of-mine production of 92% Cgr will be 928,000 tonnes at $435 per tonne. Thermal purification will enable the upgrade of approximately 40% of primary concentrate to 99.99% Cgr with inherent purification losses of 15%.
Based on per-tonne prices of $10,000 for battery grade (>99.95% Cgr, +100 mesh), $1,300 for medium grade (>90% Cgr, -100+200 mesh) and $800 for fine grade (>80% Cgr, -200 mesh), the pretax net present value (NPV) is $246 million (at a 10% discount rate); the pretax internal rate of return (IRR) is 32%; pretax undiscounted cashflow is $926 million; total net revenue is $3.7 billion; the pretax payback period is 2.8 years; and the initial CAPEX is $154 million with a 25% contingency.

Kevin Michael Grace
Gold was down (at press time) $28.30 (-1.6%) for the week to $1,713.80, and silver was down $0.63 (-1.9%) to $32.15. Gold made a modest recovery Thursday, rising $12.20. Bloomberg reports October 25, “Gold climbed the most in three weeks as Brazil and Turkey’s central banks increased holdings of the precious metal and amid signs that purchases are rising in India…. ‘More and more central banks are getting involved in the gold market,’ David Meger, the director of metal trading at Vision Financial Markets in Chicago, said.”
It is the nature of the central banks’ involvement that is at issue. James Sinclair and Peter Grandich (and others) now openly accuse the gold market of fraud, with the former calling Comex “Crimex” and the latter calling it “Crimenex.” Sinclair declares, “Yesterday’s popular myth gone viral in the community is that gold banks have infinite liquidity to depress the price of gold. That assumes that gold is the trading center of the entire market universe, which I am sorry to tell you, it is not. It might be my and your universe, but the gold banks compared to other markets is small.”

Canada Lithium Will Produce Hard-Rock Lithium in March 2013
Kevin Michael Grace
October 24, 2012 - Peter Secker has been vindicated. The President/CEO of Canada Lithium Corp T.CLQ has seen his once-shaky Quebec Lithium Project proved viable. And this has in turn proved the viability of an alternative to brine lithium. “Up until now,” he says, “they had always said that hard-rock lithium was not economic. So it’s very interesting to see Rockwood just paid $724 millionto buy a hard-rock producer in Australia. So that must mean it’s not as bad as everybody said it was.”
The Quebec Lithium Project, scheduled to begin production March 2013, comprises 405 hectares 60 kilometres north of Val d’Or. According to an October 11 feasibility study, it contains (at a 0.8% lithium oxide cutoff) 33.2 million tonnes grading 1.19% measured and indicated and 13.8 million tonnes grading 1.21% inferred.

Intl Enexco Will Produce Smelter-Free Copper in Nevada
Kevin Michael Grace
October 22, 2012 - International Enexco’s V.IEC Contact Copper Project was already projected to be a nice little earner even before its revised resource estimate. Now it looks to be nicer still. “We increased our measured and indicated resources by almost half,” COO Bill Willoughby tells Resources Wire. “Over the last five years, every time we had a drilling program, we made significant gains in our resource base.”
This increased resource follows a doubling of its property in Elko Country, Nevada, just south of Idaho and just west of Utah. The company bought 8,400 adjoining acres from Allied Nevada Gold T.ANV for 3.2 million shares in September 2011. Allied Nevada now owns just under 10% of the company.

Kevin Michael Grace
Gold was down (at press time) $27.50 (-1.6%) for the week to $1,742.10, and silver was down $1.30 (-4.2%) to $32.78. According to Jordan Roy-Byrne at Minyanville October 18, “We expected a correction after the gold and silver shares ran into predictable resistance that coincided with October seasonal resistance.”
At King World News, Egon von Greyerz, managing partner of Matterhorn Asset Management, declares, “Every time COMEX opens, it’s the same thing—you see selling. So there is clearly short-term manipulation, but it makes no difference whatsoever. If you look at the gold price, in combination with world liquidity, you see that gold is going up hand-in-hand with increased liquidity.”
As he points out, there is no end in sight to quantitative easing, notwithstanding the ever-diminishing returns. Since Bernancus Magnus “became chairman of the Fed in 2006…the debt has gone from $8 trillion to $16 trillion, while GDP has gone from $12 trillion to $16 trillion. So debt has increased by $8 trillion, while GDP has only increased $4 trillion.”

The Quest For Purity
Aubrey Eveleigh Discusses Zenyatta’s Albany Graphite Project
Kevin Michael Grace
October 18, 2012 - Zenyatta Ventures Ltd V.ZEN announced October 11 that Peter Ravenscroft has joined its board. Ravenscroft was most recently Head of Global Exploration for Cliffs Natural Resources, which owns 11.5% of Zenyatta. He worked previously for Rio Tinto, Hamersley Iron, De Beers, Anglo American and Gencor.
Zenyatta owns the Albany property of 300,000 acres in Ontario’s James Bay Lowlands. The company has discovered high-grade vein-type graphite there, and on October 3, it announced that a test conducted by SGS Canada (Lakefield) on concentrates from the Albany Graphite Project had demonstrated a leaching process capable of producing a 97.2% carbon (total) graphite product. Zenyatta has targeted purity levels greater than 99% C, and results from a second series of tests are expected soon.
