Nope. We're just getting fired up
The good news is we're routinely going through the site to keep things simple. I realize as we add more functionality, it's bound to get confusing. We'll be keenly tuned into simplicity and you feller's feedback on that.
We're admittedly struggling with some naming conventions (My Stocks, My Stockers, etc) at the moment, we're going to have a group Dictionary reading this afternoon to sort that out.
Hey, how come Most Followed Members on My Stocks doesn't match up to Most Followed Members here: http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/toppersonmarks.aspx
It's the same as the normal Most Followed list, but you only show up if you have an entry in your My Stocks. ie if you want to show up, you need to update your My Stocks.
New Features & Changes - October 11
New Quote Box on Boards -- auto-updates at 30 second intervals; realtime if you're a realtime subscriber; far easier to read and more web 2.0ish. Kudos to MEATHEAD on this one!
Hide iBox is in larger text and more visible at the top. If you're logged out and click it, will ask you to login (was just reloading the page before)
Breadcrumbs (where you are on the site) are now on Messages and Boards. You can navigate backwards in the board category chain all the way back to the homepage now.
My Stocks Activity -- this is an important one! It's the first Display/Activity feed to show My Stocks Activity site-wide. Keep an eye on this page. Lots, lots more coming to it. It gives you a really good insight into what stocks the iHub community is activity trading right now OR holding longer-term -- with a way to quickly find out why. Check it out. You can get to it via Favorites right now [we'll add more way to get to it soon]. Kudos to Dave on putting this page together!
Lucy, if you went the route I suggested on the portfolio, it'd be a slightly different view (vs Streamer/Monitor), but it would be live, delayed by 15 minutes and a single link you could sticky.
>>Can we have a 15 min delay streamer that we could sticky that shows all the picks and how they are doing?
Lucy, click Portfolio.
Create a new Portfolio.
Go to the new one.
Click Configuration button.
Enable Public Sharing.
It'll give you a link you can use to pass around and others can see that portfolio.
That should do the trick.
Congrats on the contest win, retiremeearly! I've credited your account with the 2 month iHub sub prize...
Why the change from 'boardmarks' and 'person marks' to 'Followers' ?
There are a few reasons for this, but the first was to replace two not-so-clear iHub-only terms, with a single Internet-standard one.
We constantly get asked what a BoardMark and a PersonMark are. Follow is far more obvious and is widely used on the Internet to do the exact actions it now does here.
You follow a member. You follow a board. They are stored in your Favorites.
More on this in a few weeks....
Facebook & Twitter Activity Feeds
Check out the bottom of the homepage:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/
You'll see what's being shared on Facebook and Twitter.
We're really just experimenting at this point. Interesting to see, though. I expect it to increase over time as people get more accustomed to clicking the Share & Tweet buttons.
How to Post Chart Screenshots
Go to the streaming charts and make all the annotations, studies, overlays, size changes you wish:
Example AAPL Chart
Take a screenshot of the final chart using the screenshot tool at the bottom right of the chart. Then go to Manage Screenshots.
You'll get the Chart Screenshot Manager page. You can get the links for any of your screenshots to be embedded in your iHub posts or shared elsewhere.
Then, just paste the code into your post and you'll get:
Thanks, I've provided a lot of details to the Feeds/Java guys. I also see the time is off by an hour in the US (Central vs Eastern), so I suspect some new code got released on it.
Are you seeing any trades at all? I'm showing 11.
>>How about "Shareholders" - sounds more like a family.
We don't want to suggest any kind of ownership. My Stocks simply means it's a stock that you're following and sharing. You might be long, short, or just watching.
No problem. Meatloaf is putting the cheese back where it was. Should see it in a few moments.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
>>What about "My Stockers"??? Did somebody miscommunicate that one??? LOL!
We labored over that word! Be nice! Actually, to be fair, it is with a bit of a grin we use that word.
Why? We can't think of a better one at the moment. I'll throw the challenge at you fellers and see if you come up with something better.
Originally, the page it goes to and the counter it used was based on Pitches. However, the Pitches page has grown to be more than just a page of pitches. It's becoming the My Stocks View of a particular stock. Which, over the coming weeks, you'll see just how important that will be for any stock you're following (sorry, had to.. ). It now shows the pitches, how many people have listed it in their My Stocks and a real-time feed of My Stocks activity for that stock....as well as news, chart, and quote. So a bit of a "community view" of the stock, so to speak.
"My Stocks View" was too long. "In My Stocks" is just weird. "Pitches" doesn't cover it. "My Stocks" suggests it's based off of something in YOUR My Stocks. "My Stocks Entries" is lame.
So we went with My Stockers for now. It's silly (since it sounds like My Stalkers) but it at least covers the idea -- ie shows those people who list it in their profile and their commentary about it.
>>Any idea why the Favorites link has been changed to "Follows" ????
A miscommunication between two of us and a weekend code release. It's not supposed to be that. It will remain Favorites.
I suspect the next 150 unread messages on this board are largely about that, so I'm just respond to this one.
Congrats on the PSL win, Knowledge!
Just caught up with Lentinman and he told me you had one. I've honored your request and extended SSKillz's account by a year.
Excellent. Several ideas for the wish list, but an extremely useful one-page presentation.
Talk to Santa Matt. What would you like?
Streamer or Porfolio should do the trick for you. Both are in the top menu navgiation....
I got the same thing numerous times yesterday and have reported it to the IH Geek Squad. Haven't gotten it yet today.
IE 8 is what I am/was using.
Quote Page & Search Menu Updates
*Quote page got some nice style elements, boxes.
*Search Menu is now (finally!) the same across both IH Message Board Pages & IH Data pages
Should result in less people getting stuck/lost and having their menus change sporadically. :)
If you want to test something cool we're working on -- only works for BB and listed stocks and is in BETA -- go to any stock quote, MSFT for example, and click Financials. Then find the Visual Financials link. See what you think. It's a fundamentally different and very groovy way to look at, analyze, and easily understand financial data.
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=vfcharts&symbol=MSFT
It's intentially hard to get to because it's version 0.71 BETA. The X-axis is off by a year (not showing 2010). Still, play with it and see what you think. Report any bugs at the bottom of the page.
Hmmmm... They lined up your Reset All. It's working just fine for me in my account and test accounts. I'll let Dave know to take a look at it when he returns from his feasting on Nemo ala rice.
Churak, check your Favorites. The Geeks have given you a gift for the weekend.
Removal of JAVA Checker Page
I'm not sure if you guys noticed, but the technical fellers removed the java version checker page. It was a page in between you going to the Level 2/Streamer/Charts/etc that was taking several seconds to load the first time you went to the page.
It's gone now and the pages are loading several seconds faster.
Social Sharing Icons
We think we've finally got just the right ones, as of about 5PM today.
What are they?
They are easy, one-click ways to share your favorite messages and boards with your Twitter & Facebook friends. I realize all of you love iHub so much, you don't leave our sandbox when you're on the Internet, but Twitter and Facebook are great ways to share information and most major sites have enabled their content to be shared via these share widgets.
By clicking the Facebook share icon, it creates a very nice little message that's posted on your wall and to your friend's newsfeed showing that you shared/liked a page on iHub. It will include the title of the post and and iHub graphic; or the title of the post and a stock chart (cool, huh!) if it was a post from a stock-specific board.
By clicking the Twitter share icon, it tweets the post or board on your Twitter feed for your friends to see, including the title and a shortened link.
We are not paid to have these share icons. We encourage sharing of the pages/boards/messages here, as tends to drive traffic back to the site in a major way.
It's very cool stuff. If you haven't already, I encourage all of you to sign up for one or both and see why these sites are exploding in growth. You'll run into old high school/college friends/family and discover lots of new and interesting things going on in the world via shared content.
Side item -- we had some space due to the icons on the Board Page, so now in the top right of the ibox, you'll see a Posts Today stat. Seemed cool, thought you guys would like....
Kudos to MEATLOAF for integrating all of this.
You're not a premium member, so you can't auto-refresh.
It's a premium feature ( http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=smatrix_info&prodinfo=ihbb ) -- second from bottom.
As most on this board are premium, we often forget that. :)
Look at you. Added a profile picture. Showing up on your messages. Being engaged by other people because of the picture. Permanently remembered as rat lady.
I feel like I've added some beautiful illustrations to all those boring, text-only books you read.
Welcome to the colorful side of life, Janice. I'm proud of you.
<hug>
It's Friday night. We're tinkering! That said, the hiccup/blink should be gone again. Internet Explorer is just not happy with a line of code. I think it's possible it could trigger an epilepsy attack, it's so obnoxious. Back to the drawing board on that section..
I think people would certainly identify that image as being associated with Ms. Janice Shell, yes....
Don't be such a digital stick in the mud, Janice. Upload a picture of your pet rats as your profile pic and all will be well.
The internet has become a very visual thing. There are studies that prove people are far more likely to respond and/or click something that has a picture attached to it.
Plus, it's more fun -- as the user -- to attach a picture to your posts that's personal/fun to you. Your posts are more identifiable than if you are just a string of letters, the same as everybody else. There are thousands of iHublettes that have uploaded profile pictures. We hope that number increases with this.
The text re-arranging was just merely cleanup. It's quite standard to list the author first; who you're replying to second. We don't follow the standard Internet msgboard subject rule, so we just did it "Re: post # by user" so it made sense. We trimmed out all the excess text and the text to the right that said "Date" (obvious that it's the date) -- should be a simpler interface with less unnecessary text in your way.
Very sad to hear this news.
He was always a great friend to me. Always staunchly supported me, iHub, and our team from the beginning.
Sent me several rounds of homemade ribs & BBQ sauce from his monstrosity of a smoker/grill. They were so good that I ended up paying for a copule extra shipments outside of his generous free ones. One time, he shipped to the office and the receptionist thought I had received human body parts. Phil had sent an actual cooler, wrapped in clear tape, with 'fragile' stickers on it -- looked like what you see doctors transporting heart transplants in. Good ole Phil.
He was extremely passionate about everything he voiced his opinion on -- which was well...everything. That's what made him so great, though.
Never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, but had many phone conversations with him. Truly a great guy that I will miss very much.
New Homepage:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/
*Some requested features are back (New Boards); Community Contests has bit the dust temporarily.
*Seriously improved styling and spacing
*If you have FireFox, Chrome, or IE 9, you'll see nice rounded edges on all the boxes.
*Improved Stock Market News -- Dow Jones, Big Cap (Nasdaq, Nyse, AMEX), Small Cap (OTCBB & Pink Sheets) options
*Charts across the top (they seem to be very popular), better layout, added one more chart
*A slightly (and very purty) different page if you're logged out - feel free to check it out, designed to encourage registrations.
*Note: If you have a data subscription, it may show you an ad for that right now; that will be fixed soon.
Kick any feedback our way if something looks whacky/out of line/doesn't work.
Kudos to MEATLOAF for a Herculean effort on getting this up on a tight timeframe.
>>How about you take Log Out to the Home page, and remove it from any other page?????
A strong case could be made for moving it to the Settings dropdown list....
There's a few large sites that stick it there.
It's a fair point to bring up, especially if people are inadvertanly being logged out. Don't want that at all.
It'd also free up the rest of the menu to breathe a bit. The free user menu could definitely use some air.
Proposal: Log On stays where it is; Log Out would be stuck in Settings Dropdown...
Any nay votes?
>>Please consider moving that Log Out tab. I'm getting real tired of having to log back in.
How about if we flipped More Tools & Log Out/Login?
That'd move it out of the "dropdown zone"
They're currently being planted back at the iFarm.
>>Has there been any discussions regarding a mobile version of ihub? The iphone will display the current site but it's really difficult to read and navigate.
Coming soon, to an iPhone/Android/Blackberry near you. :)
How about data stuff -- do you guys use Level II for TSX & TSX-V?
Do you pay for it? Free?
Hi guys!
Doing a little poking around in Canada as far as our services go -- datafeeds, news feeds, Level II, etc.
I'd love to know what brokers you guys like, what sites you subscribe to, use for data and news, and what services (Level 2?) you pay for and/or get for free.
Looking to improve our Canadian information....
Would appreciate any feedback here or via PM.
Thanks!
Thanks, Generic. Will get that fixed.
Education Wiki Updates
We've added a lot of content to the wiki lately. If you haven't been by in a while, please give it a read. It's got some absolutely fantastic information in there for new and old investors alike.
At the very least, use it a resource you can pass around to anybody out there you see new in the market. Spamming these links will not get you popped by IH Admin.

I had faith you'd come around. :)

how about having a Next 50 up to about 500 or so? It is a useful picture (well, at least to me) cause it list price changes, if there is news for the ticker, number of posts on the board etc...just asking...
